Hi, I'm new here and finally out of quarantine. I wasn't sure what to do with myself now that my brother and I are here. I'm fifteen, but I can do lots of different jobs. I know we will need money.

Also, this world is so wonderous, so different than where I'm from. Is there some way to learn more about all the science and machines here?

My name is Emma Frost and I work at the school the others mentioned. When were you last enrolled in school?

Hello Ms. Frost. I'm Alphonse Elric. I don't think I've ever been enrolled in a school like they are talking about? We studied with our Alchemy teacher when we were younger and our mom taught us things as kids. But we never went to a formal place of education unless you count the military that my brother served in? There weren't classes there though.

How old is your brother? And how different is your world from this?

I could help enroll you at EPS, which is the name of our school. It's very likely you'll need some one on one work before we can get you enrolled in the more advanced classes. We'll test your knowledge and see where you need the most catching up and go from there.

My brother is sixteen. My world seems to be in the past compared to this one. But it's different. We didn't have anything wireless, only telephones with cords and mostly that was rich people or the military. We have alchemy though which I don't think this world has?

That's where James said I should go so nobody will make fun of us. How long does school last though? I want to make sure I have time to work, too.

He'll need to enroll, as well. You'll have to explain this alchemy to me sometime.

The school year tends to go from September to July, with your summer months free. The typical day goes somewhere from 7 AM to 3 PM, with extracurriculars like sports or music practice going beyond that. We can work around your schedules depending on how much individualized study you need to take. But you're young enough that you're going to probably have a difficult time finding anything but a part time job. I see that Sabine has invited you to the mansion. Food and lodging are provided there free of charge, perhaps it's time to take a break from working?

It's science! I'd love to explain it to you but my brother is better at telling people about it. He's one of the best alchemists where we are from. Or well, he can't do it anymore but he still has all of his knowledge? I don't think brother would want me to tell you that though.

Wow. That's a lot of time to study each day. There must be a lot of new things to learn here if it takes that long, it's like when we first learned alchemy from teacher. How can it be free? What would we need to do? The military paid for our food and lodging but Ed had to join them at home. I don't think we want to join the military again, Sabine said you don't have to fight often here? I couldn't. I don't want him to have to do everything now that I'm better!

Interesting. Alchemy from where I'm from is more magical in origin.

I'm sure you'll be very busy catching up for a time, but we'll do our best to get you on track as quickly as we can within reason. I can give you both a tour of the school and some idea of what a sample schedule and class materials looks like. You wouldn't need to do anything or join any organization unless you want to. As long as you don't skip out on classes, you'll be fine. It's our hope you won't have to fight anything, but things do come up in this world from time to time and we do not have a choice. That said, we'll do our best to keep students out of any conflicts. There are also many students with powers who train regularly to better master their abilities, but that fighting is optional.

I was talking to George about that, he said magic and alchemy were different where he was from but that alchemy was more science like it is on our world. We don't have magic that I know of.

I'm a fast reader and am good at learning things! I'm sure I can do it quickly with the right books! If we get attacked we can help defend the students. We've been fighting people for a long time. I just don't like it much.

What are powers?

Do you mean sparring? I like to spar! I haven't been able to do it for months and I need to get used to doing it in this body again but I want to.

Where I'm from magic is real.

Good. You won't be expected to do anything unless there's an emergency going on. You don't have to fight here. You can just be students.

I do believe powers have different meanings for different people here. There are witches and wizards who have their own types of magic, there are meta humans and mutants with abilities that the baseline humans cannot dream to achieve. They can be any number of things - mind reading, moving things with telekinesis, healing factors, elemental powers. I could go on listing examples for a very long time.

There's a teacher named Logan who owns a gym. I'm sure he'd welcome more students who are interested in sparring.

Okay. That sounds really good. Thank you for the offer, we'd like to move into the place you said we could live and to go to school with the other students who are from different worlds.

Wow. That's amazing. I had no idea all of that was possible! Thank goodness the homunculus couldn't do all of those things or we'd have failed! So the people we'd go to school with can do all of those things?

We'll have to talk to him. Thank you for the information!

Good. It's Xavier's Mansion and the EPS. You can get comfortable tonight, Sabine can show you around the mansion, and I can show you the school tomorrow. We'll figure out both of your schedules quickly. You're already starting late, best not to put things off much longer.

Not all of them. Some are normal humans. Any of the Displaced are welcome at the school. Plenty do have abilities. You'll see as you make acquaintances with your peers.

You're welcome.

Okay. Thank you so much! We both really appreciate it!

So they are our age? That'll be different to be around other teenagers.

Sounds like it could be cool. And Al is right... Us being in a public school probably isn't the best idea.
For a lot of reasons.

Let me just say - my brother and I have been through a lot. I've got a bit of a temper on me, especially when it comes to people ragging on my brother. Honestly, I don't like seeing anybody being bullied and I'm not afraid to show them how wrong they are. I've done some pretty questionably moral stuff to stick up for the people who can't do it, themselves, for whatever reason. Some of that stuff includes beating the snot out of the other guy. But I've never punched someone that didn't deserve it in some way or another.

You'll be in good company, then. There are plenty of us who have been through a lot.

Temper or no, you aren't allowed to fight on the school grounds aside from friendly sparring. If there are issues, you are to get a professor before being violent. Bullying isn't tolerated and I don't expect you or your brother to be harassed. If a student is foolish enough to try, I expect to be informed.

Alphonse and I can share a room there, right? At the mansion?

Do you think we should go live with them? She said we won't have to worry about paying for food and our room. That seems like a really good deal, especially if we don't have to join the military or somewhere like that?
