"I had a very unpleasant encounter while shopping recently," Fiore says in a very calm voice. "I wished someone 'happy holidays' and they said 'it's Merry Christmas.'" A slight pause. "So, I suppose my question is 'happy holidays,' or Merry 'Christmas?'"

There is a Catholic priest in the Nexus. He stands about 5'10" with short cropped brown hair and brown eyes of a peculiarly honey-toned shade. He studied the sign for a long moment, then finally turns to the people around the sign. "What is your favorite quote?" he asks in a thick German accent. "Mine comes from the Bible, from Ruth. 'Entreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God.'"

One may notice an agitated young woman wandering in a circle near the sign, rambling to herself. She looks a mite odd, what with the contrast of silvery scale mail, shield, and short lance with her more modern clothing, rifle, and pistol, and the irritated mumbling doesn't exactly help the image. After a few minutes she finally the turns irately toward the crowd and throws her arms wide.
"So where the hell is the freaking instruction leaflet for this crap?!" |
