Three More Abductions
Who: Eily, Avery, Lily, and Wesley
Where: Late Evening
When: The Pub
Avery was attempting to work. It was really a lack of motivation, which wasn't unusual for her, but because Eily was closing and not Lochlan, Avery knew she had to at least help out with something. The last few days had been utter crap, but that wasn't really the best excuse to stand around and mope. And Eily didn't usually let her get away with work laziness the way her brother did. So after the last patron had wandered out of the bar, Avey cleared off the tables, carrying the bin of dirty dishes back behind the counter. She knew Eily had wanted to talk, and even though Avery offered to visit in the morning, now seemed just a good a time as any, since they were the only two left in the place.
"So, what did you want to talk to me about?" Avery asked, trying to sound casual. Eily had said she wasn't in trouble, but it seemed ominous anytime someone she knew texted, wanting to 'talk'.
“Darcy,” Eily said, wiping the bar down, glad people had wandered out. They weren't quite closed yet, but if no one else came in she was thinking about closing early. She wasn't feeling being there tonight. She wanted to curl up with a bottle and sleep for like, a month. Maybe then she'd wake up and feel better and not ridiculous or abandoned or forlorn, or other words that indicated bad things. She wasn't up to talking to Avery about Darcy tonight either, but just because she was feeling all kinds of out of sorts didn't mean she got off of her familial duties. “What's going on with you two? I've heard her end, I want to hear yours,” she said, no trace of judgment or anger in her voice. She really did want to know where Avery was at.
Of it was about Darcy. Avery felt a surge of annoyance. Not at Eily, obviously. But lately just thinking about Darcy made Avery angry and she couldn't wait to get away from her now. Avery sighed softly and started to help clean up behind the counter. She had to take a moment to gather her thoughts, otherwise she knew she would just start ranting. "Darcy...thinks she knows me, even though she's proven lately that she has no idea who I am. I've tried getting along with her Eily, I really have. She doesn't like me and she doesn't try to hide it. I told her the other day I just wanted to get along and she said that just because we were family didn't mean we had to be friends. She's just.... impossible to get along with, especially lately. I feel like crap every time I'm around her. She's allowed to hate us to our faces but if I stand up for myself now, she acts like a wounded victim and suddenly I'm the bad guy." Avery paused and lifted both hands to rub her face before looking wearily at Eily. "I love Darcy, but it's too hard to like her anymore."
Listening, Eily understood where Avery was coming from. She nodded as the girl spoke, putting some glasses away. “Darcy's going through a lot herself right now,” she said first. “Which I know, doesn't excuse anything. Trust me, I know exactly how you feel. But, I sort of gave Darcy a talking to recently, and we've opened up communication. And lately, she's going through a lot. The wounded animal thing, it might be more real than you think. She's putting effort into trying to change her ways, I think it's hard for her. Which, again, I know doesn't fix anything, but...it might actually help for you to know she's trying to put effort in these days when she didn't before.”
"Maybe she is," Avery said, helping Eily with the glasses. "But not with me. She told Noah there was a whole list of these awful things I've done to her, but won't tell me any of them. And I know she doesn't like that I'm friends with Noah. Or was...I don't know." Avery shrugged softly before focusing hard on what she was doing. Her throat felt tight but she swallowed and continued. "I can't understand her, or what she's going through because she doesn't like or trust me enough to talk to me about anything. And it's not like I'm not dealing with my own stuff. I just think it's better for us to stay away from each other. She has you, and Aidan, and Noah. She doesn't need me." And Avery didn't need her. She glanced at Eily. "I don't know what she's told you, but I swear, Eily, I did try. I'm just over it now. I already feel like crap, I don't need her adding to it."
“Hon, I'm not blaming you for anything, that's not what this is about,” Eily said, tone light. “And you have me too, by the way,” she added. “If you're not ready to talk to her again, and you two aren't in a place where you can both put in an effort, maybe it is time that you stay out of each other's ways for a while. I know there's been talk of you moving out before, is that still on?”
"I don't think Darcy had ever been in a place where she wanted to make an effort. She's disliked me for a long time for whatever reason and she told me to stay out of her life, so I am." Avery nodded once and then wiped her palms on her jeans. "I'm going to move in with Fiona. That way we're not on top of each other. I think I'll be much happier that way, and so will she."
Eily noticed that it was probably the third time that Avery had mentioned that Darcy didn't like her. Clearly that was what was bothering Avery the most, or it wouldn't be mentioned in every breath. Eily got it. It couldn't be easy. When she said she was moving in with Fiona, Eily winced just faintly. That wasn't any better than her moving in with Lochlan. Avery really shouldn't be the most responsible person in a household. But she didn't protest it either. “I hear you,” Eily assured her first. “I get it. Just, I'll say the same thing to you as I did to her. Family is forever. But for right now, I think it would be best for you to be someplace you feel loved and happy. So, if that's with Fiona, then I'm for it. Just...don't be a stranger, please. I know we don't see each other that much, but I don't want to never see you.”
Avery's first, instinctive response to 'family is forever' was unfortunately, but she didn't think that kind of joke around go over with Eily the way it might Lochlan so Avery bit her tongue. She was glad Eily didn't try to talk her out of moving in with Fiona. Avery knew her siblings weren't terribly responsible, but Avery knew how to take care of herself. All she really wanted was space from Darcy. Avery smiled a little at Eily. "You'll still see me. Anytime someone gets a boyfriend or girlfriend, we'll have those fun family dinners. Plus, there's work." She motioned around the bar. "And I know where you live, and you know where I live, so... we'll see each other."
Eily smiled at her. “Okay,” she said. “I'll hold you to that!” she added. Then she glanced up as the door opened, and a woman entered.
Lily had parted ways with Lochlan reluctantly, but she knew she had to make sure Eatzy’s was still closed. Considering the fact that Zania wasn’t aware of their re-opening and most businesses were still out of power, she doubted they would be up and running, but she didn’t want to miss another shift on the off chance that things were good to go again. Once she reached the diner and patrolled the general area, she came to the conclusion that she was free to go for the night and get a head start on date night. She grinned softly to herself with excitement as she turned around and started heading back towards her house, pulling out her phone to text Lochlan that she was ready when he was. She noticed a text from Jack then, glancing up and around her after she read his warning to stay indoors tonight. Oops. She gave another glance around as she walked, quickening her pace just slightly as the realization hit her that strolling home by herself probably wasn’t such a good idea if more than one person was telling her to be wary. She thought she saw some people shuffling out of O’Reillys ahead, contemplating popping in to at least wait for Lochlan there instead of trekking the rest of the way home on her own. She looked back down to her phone, asking Lochlan if he’d be willing to walk her home from the pub in a follow up text. By the time she hit send and had her phone put away again, she was opening the door and took a hesitant step in. She lifted a hand to wave, recognizing Avery but not the other blonde girl behind the bar. “Hey!” She smiled warmly. “Are you guys still open?”
Eily internally sighed, but that didn't show at all as she smiled at the woman. “Hi there, and we sure are! What can I get you?” she asked pleasantly, ever the bubbly bartender when it was required of her. At least it wasn't some drunk ass, though. That was a huge plus.
Turning to see Lily enter the bar, Avery smiled and returned her wave. "Hi Lily." She had been hoping no one else would come in so they could both close up early and go home, but she was okay with a straggler being Lily. Glancing at Eily, Avery leaned against the bar top. "Did you meet Lily yet? She survived a dinner with me and Fiona, and more importantly, Fiona's cooking, so we know she's a keeper."
Lily’s smile kept up, moving further into the pub towards the two. “Do you have any Jameson?” She asked lightly, leaning against the bar as she reached it. She grinned to Avery’s observation, glad Lochlan’s sisters seemed to like her. “It’s going to take more than crunchy food to scare me away.” She held out an inked hand towards the other blonde, grin still prominent. “I don’t think we have met yet.”
“Jameson it is, and we haven't,” Eily said, keeping her smile in place. Her first question, however, was 'where's Lochlan?'. He'd left earlier saying that he was going to go find her. But she didn't want to be rude, or invasive. She didn't want to be weird or clingy either. So, she was just going to be all sorts of fine. “Pleased to meet you, Lily, I'm Eily, Lochlan's cousin.” She looked to see if there was any recognition there, to gauge if Lochlan had mentioned her at all. She was going to guess not.
Lily’s smile didn’t budge, excited she was getting to meet more of Lochlan’s family. “It’s nice to meet you, Eily!” She glanced back towards the door momentarily before turning her attention on the two ladies in the bar with her again. “I asked Lochlan to meet me here so I wouldn’t have to walk the rest of the way home alone.. all the shit that’s going on.” She wasn’t sure of the exact details, but three warnings to be cautious were enough to tell her something serious went down. “Oh, can I get a Jameson on the rocks, please?”
Crunchy food was definitely one way to describe Fiona's food. And Avery grinned, happy to have another distraction around. It helped that she liked Lily. Plus, it meant she wasn’t working, so bonus. "So he's coming here?" Avery asked, also excited to see her brother too. "He told me he had some good news to share. Maybe I can wrangle it out of him when he gets here."
Okay, she officially felt like a complete moron. She'd asked Lochlan to walk her home, and he'd pawned it off on Aidan without a second thought, but he'd show up for Lily. It was absolutely stupid of her to feel a pang of jealousy, and she knew that, but there it was. Thankfully, Eily was great at hiding things, and it didn't show as she poured Lily her drink. She also had to wonder what the 'good news' was that she didn't know about. Yeah. She was a dumb, dumb bitch and she needed to get over herself, and everything else. She did, however, pour herself a little shot of Jameson while she was at it. “Well if that's what's up, then we are officially closed, and free to do whatever we desire, girls,” she said with a smile.
Lily nodded as she accepted her drink graciously, bringing the glass to her lips before she paused. “I bet you could.” Her previous stupid grin returned, knowing how much she personally liked his good news. She looked to Eily with her announcement and raised her glass just a little high, “Here, here!” She brought it back to her lips and finally took a sip, welcoming the familiar burning warmth of the whiskey.
"Hey, don't I get one?" Avery asked, once she saw Eily with her own glass. If they were both going to drink, she sure as hell wanted to join in. And wouldn't that be a sight for Lochlan, to show up to find all three of them with drinks in their hands? He would probably want to join in. She was distracted by the opening of the door, and the men who began to walk inside. She recognized a couple, though she couldn't think of their names. Wondering if Eily would tell them they were closed, Avery glanced at her cousin uncertainly.
Eily laughed, and poured Avery a beer, smaller than usual, but still. She slid it toward her cousin. “I don't recommend whiskey for you, sweetie,” she said. She was about to say more when she blinked at the people coming in. “Hey, sorry guys, but we're closed for the night. Come back tomorrow for a beer on me, okay?”
Lily had taken a few sips of her drink, grinning to Avery when she requested one as well. She glanced back when she heard the door open, hoping it was Lochlan, but saw that a few strangers were shuffling in instead. She tried not to frown with disappointment, turning her attention back to her drink.
Four men came into the bar before Wes trailed in after. He had the look of a man at ease with his surroundings, but his eyes were contemplative as he looked over the three women. That was a pretty sight, wasn't it? And ripe with opportunity. He was supposed to grab one, but now Wes was thinking the plans had changed. A smile curved slowly at his lips before his gaze ticked to Eily. "I'm not much of a drinkin' man, but your offer's appreciated." Then without taking his eyes off Eily, Wes motioned impatiently toward the bar. "The blonde," he instructed before smirking. "The older one. But grab the other two and we'll see what happens. Knock 'em out if you have to." The four men jumped into action before Wes finished speaking, and he watched as Kyle immediately went for the brunette sitting at the bar, his beefy fist lifting to slam into the side of her head while the others went for the bitch Anne Marie wanted, and the younger girl. Related, he was pretty sure. This place was always ripe with O'Reilly's.
When she looked back on it later, Avery would be pretty pissed with herself for not moving faster. But she stood paralyzed to the spot as the attack came, completely taken back that this could even happen, despite the warnings from Lochlan and all the crazy bullshit happening in the dome lately. But the minute she saw Lily being grabbed, Avery forced her feet to move, and she snatched an empty glass from the bar to chuck it at the man rounding the bar and bearing down on her. She must have pitched it hard because it shattered against his shoulder. Not that it did much damage. The man was built like a fucking tree, and the next thing she knew, he had a fistful of Avery's hair in his fingers, yanking it and prompting her to scream in pain.
Lily didn't pay much attention to the guy who was speaking until she heard his violent instructions. "What the fuck?" She quickly rose to her feet and turned just in time to see a hulk of a man coming at her. She was able to swing her glass hard at his head, but unfortunately wasn't able to verify if she did any damage whatsoever since his fist simultaneously made contact with hers. She went down to the floor hard, her skull smacking against one of the stools in the process. She felt warmth trickling around one of her eyes as her vision began to blur, muttering for the girls to run as she struggled to stand so she could attack back. Then just like that, the pub faded to black.
Eily had been on edge already, was aware of the trouble currently plaguing town like they lived in Castle Rock. When it was clear what they intended, Eily acted without thinking about it. It was the same thing that had kept her alive during the zombies. She was good at this, when she dropped into Survival Mode. The bottle of Jameson was closest and she saw Lily go down fast. Avery, however, was screaming, and she was over to her in a flash. She hopped to the bartop and swung at the back of the man's head as hard as she could, the impact jarring her arm even when the glass gave way and broke. She was left with the jagged end of the bottle neck, which she jammed deep into the throat of the man holding her cousin. Blood splashed the both of them, the bar, the floor. The bottle slipped from her hand due to the blood, and she was abruptly unarmed again.
That, just in time for one of the other guys to take a hard swing at her.
Avery barely knew what happened until the man holding her released a guttural sound of pain. She saw splatters of blood against the front of her shirt and when she looked up, she saw the gaping neck around, the blood, and then she was free. The asshole fell to the ground with a sickening thud and Avery stumbled backward out of instinct. Her stomach rolled and she tried to scream as loudly as she could, just in case someone was walking by and could maybe hear. But her voice seemed to get stuck in her throat, and she watched with wide eyes as another asshole swung at Eily. She jumped forward to try and help, grabbing hold of Eily's shirt to try and pull her back, but someone else grabbed her from behind. Struggling, Avery turned her head and sunk her teeth into the scarred hand that was trying to wrap around her throat. There was a hoarse male cry of pain in her ear and for a split second, Avery felt triumphant. Then there was shooting pain against the back of her head and she was falling. Avery was out before she hit the ground.
Wes watched with some amusement, and some irritation. Three skinny bitches shouldn't be this difficult. And they needed to get moving. He didn't spare a second thought for John, who had taken a bottle to the neck. He liked his ladies feisty, after all, and John should have known better. "Are you going to need help, or do you got this?" Wes asked impatiently. He pulled out a firearm, keeping it down by his side as Roger swung at Eily. "Knock her the fuck out or you're getting a bullet to your fucking balls." His tone was pleasant, but there was nothing but malice in Wes's eyes.
“You get your filthy fucking hands off of her!” Eily screamed at the one who had Avery. She might have said more, but she took a hit to the shoulder, knocking her back, and she screamed and kicked hard, wildly like a rabid animal, at the one trying to grab her. She landed a few, but he was a hell of a lot bigger than her, and eventually grabbed her leg, dragging her off the bar hard. He made sure she didn't get leverage and didn't get a chance to break her fall, landing her hard on her head. Stars sparked her vision, and she fumbled for anything available to her, which was another bottle. She swung it at the guy as he loomed over her, trying to grab her and she heard a cry of pain, but the world was starting to spark out on her. She went down fighting, though, right up until the last moment.
Panting, Roger looked over at Wes when Eily finally stilled, his expression one of satisfaction. "Good enough for you?" Wes nodded and slid his gun away again. "Pick 'em up. They're going to my house. I'll take the blonde to Anne Marie myself." Soon, but not yet. He led them toward the back once all three girls were up from the floor. Granted, he little disappointed that he didn't get to cause some bloodshed himself, but Wes figured he would just have to make up for it later.
