Who: Jack and Tessa Austin
What: Cute time
When: Late night.
Where: Fire escape then their bedroom
Rating: TBD
Some nights, when it got too quiet inside, Jack snuck outside to the fire escape. Even though it was cooling off now, and he had to throw on a sweatshirt, he liked the open air. He always had. There was just something about fresh air he always missed. It was the only thing he insisted on in their place -- the open window. It was just after 3am. He climbed outside to listen to the sounds of the city, instead of just the sounds of their quiet apartment. Even the light snoring of the dogs... and his wife... was too quiet. Out on the fire escape, he slouched in the lawn chair. He listened to the traffic below, and eventually, he fell asleep.~
The nights always seemed to get quieter in the winter months, everyone noticed that fact be it true or not, especially Jack lately. A few times in the last month she'd been woken to him crawling back into bed, his skin cold from the night air and needing to cuddle with her to get warmed up again. Tonight though, tonight Tessa was the one that found herself cold with no one to cuddle up against. Stirring in the bed for a minute or two she opened her eyes, looking at the empty spot next to her followed by the time on the clock. It was nearly four in the morning and her husband was nowhere to be found until she glanced out the window to the fire escape, spotting him sitting in the chair. Grabbing the throw blanket off the end of the bed and wrapping it around her shoulders she went to the window, sitting on the edge of it to look out at him, giving a soft chuckle when she realized he was sleeping. Stepping out onto the fire escape she knelt down next to him, lifting one hand up to gently run over his arm, "Jackie Boy.."
He didn't always sleep like a rock. Usually, that was only after he'd been drinking. Tonight, he found himself not only asleep in the chair, but huddled up in the corner because he was damned cold... though not cold enough to wake himself up. He was the kind of cold where you didn't want to move because you wanted to hold onto all the heat your body still had. "Mmm." He said, beginning to stir, but not being convinced that stirring was a good idea.~
When he didn't wake up she sighed softly, a smile coming to her lips at how adorable he was when sleeping, moreso when he wasn't sure if he wanted to wake up. "Baby..." She kissed his cheek, feeling just how cold his skin was against her warms lips, "Time to come inside." Shivering a bit her hand moved to ease through his hair.
Jack opened one eye halfway and saw Tessa crouched in front of him. That was when it occurred to him that he'd fallen asleep outside again. When she started to run
her fingers through his hair, he leaned into her touch and smiled. "Mmm. You're warm, Babe."~
Grinning at him she leaned a bit more against the chair, "How could I not be compared to the air out here?" Feeling just how cold he was she even pulled the blanket from around her shoulders, laying it across him as her hand settled against his chest, fingers drumming against him. "What're you doing out here?" Glancing around she looked down at the view of the city, her grin widening a little bit from where it already was. Tessa had nearly forgotten how beautiful it was in New York at night, her schedule not exactly allowing for the midnight strolls to diners that it use to.
He shrugged his shoulders under the blanket, trying to generate some heat. November was cold. It would do him well to remember that. "I came out to listen to the city for awhile. It was too quiet inside, I couldn't sleep." Obviously he hadn't gone outside looking to fall asleep, but the background noise of the city below had worked better than he had imagined. "Guess I solved that problem, hmm?"~
Letting out a little sigh she glanced into the apartment, "Maybe we should tell New York to be a little bit louder at night so you don't have to come outside and freeze when you can't sleep." Tessa wished she could help him on the nights that it got to quiet, knowing his brain tended to seem to go into overdrive when there wasn't enough ambiant noise in the background. "Yeah, but now we're both cold." Goosebumps were starting to appear on her arms as she knelt beside the chair that he was, "And the pups have the bed all to themselves."
"You tell it. The city'll listen to you." Jack was so cold, he barely moved. His voice broke a bit, and he laughed. He could even see his breath. "Sorry, I didn't mean to get you cold, too." Even though his arms were stiff from sleep and the cold, he managed to take the blanket and wrap it around them both. It only did so much good, because the fire escape wasn't solid underneath their feet, and a cool breeze blew up underneath. Jack followed her gaze into the apartment, just able to make out the shadows of the dogs curled in a ball, taking their half of the bed out of the middle. "You know, if we let them lay like that for too long, it'll go to their heads. There will be no living with them." He smirked, and shivered. "Let's go inside."~
"How about I make some flyers and post them all over the city?" She asked playfully, her voice still quiet in the night as she watched their breath dancing together with each exhale. Shaking her head Tessa just got a bit closer to him, "Don't worry about it, Boomer and Buttercup couldn't keep me warm on their own either." The holes in the bottom of the escape definitely weren't helping at all, leaving her feet to feel like ice cubes. She had to be in only a night shirt didn't she? Leaving her legs and feet victim to the night air. "They already own all the couch, we might as well go save our bed." Reaching out and taking his hands she started to ease him out of the chair he was sitting it, "Maybe we'll get you a heating blanket for out here, one with a long cord to reach to the chair?" Tessa ducked back inside the window, waiting for him to join her.
Climbing headfirst back through the window, Jack chuckled, rather amused by the idea of an electric blanket for the fire escape. He didn't want to think about how cold her poor legs were. He had at least slid his jeans and a hoodie on before venturing out to his perch. Inching his way back inside, then swinging his leg over the ledge, he slid the window back down slightly. He didn't close it, but he didn't leave it wide open, either. Both dogs looked at them, waiting for some indication from their human parents before making their next move. Jack snapped his fingers and pointed, and Boomer reluctantly hopped off of the bed with Buttercup to follow. They'd no doubt work their way back up in a moment, once he and Tessa had found their spots on the bed. He caught sight of the clock. Ugh. It was too early to be awake, and too late to not have fallen asleep properly yet.~
Having moved over to the bed Tessa pulled back the blankets, climbing back underneath them and to the middle of the mattress, watching him climb back inside to close the window a bit. As cold as she sometimes got with the window open at night she couldn't sleep without it being open anymore, having grown use to it with Jack sleeping next to her. "Come warm me up?" She asked, reaching one hand out to him to coax him into the bed even if she knew thats where he was going anyway. It would take a few minutes for her to get back to being tired, the cold night air on her body having done the job of waking her up.
