RP: It is a dinner party
Date: October 10 1997
Characters: Janelle Dorny, adrian pucey, terence higgs, verity de luca, caleb warrington, padrig cadwallader
Location: Dinner Party
Status: Private
Summary: Janelle has invited guests for dinner
Completion: InComplete

Janelle had a small apartment but it was enough to accommodate her guests. She had a nice large table and it was all set with dishes from her mother's home. It was the Dorny family dishes and her mother allowed her to use them for just one night. Her mother thought she was old enough now to use the family dishes for her party. Janelle was very pleased with the way dishes had looked before she had disappeared into her bedroom to get ready.

She had spent the better half of an hour getting ready, she could smell the food being cooked by her mother's house elf. She finally smoothed out her dress of dark green and headed back out in the living room and dining room to make sure everything was well prepared. She grinned as she looked around pleased at the work the house elf had done. Now it was time to wait for them to arrive.

Terence checked his tie in the mirror, straightened it a bit, and threw on his coat before he was out the door. His suit might have been a bit much for the dinner, but Terence hadn't kept in touch with many of his former housemates since graduation, so he wanted to make the right impression. To him, the suit said that he had a good job and good taste, but that he didn't completely feel the need to impress his company. To anybody on the street, he could have just left work.

Bottle of wine in hand, he knocked on the door to Janelle's apartment. She had always been one of the pretty girls at school, and Terence had never really minded her company, even if she was terribly flirtatious, so the dinner would be a good opportunity for him to restore contact with her. He wondered if she was still the same girl that he remembered from Hogwarts.

Janelle heard a knock at the door as she slipped her feet into her heels, she thought that they just added to the outfit. She made one last look around her home to make sure it was still clean and perfect. With a smile she turned back to her door and opened it pleased to see Terence Higgs on the other side of it. "Terence I am so glad you came," she said opening the door wider for him to come on it.

"Well you are the first to arrive so it will be just you and I for a bit at least." She smiled that usual flirtatious smile.

"Good evening, Janelle," Terence said as she let him in her apartment. It was a nice place, Terence thought, even if it was a bit small. "You look lovely this evening, certainly lovelier than the last time I saw you," he complimented. And it was true. She was a woman now, and Terence didn't mind admitting that he found her attractive.

"You're lucky I'm the first of our friends to arrive, then," he said with a smirk. "You asked for wine, so I picked this up on my way over. I wasn't sure what you planned to serve for dinner, so I just got a nice red. Would you like to open it now? Since I'm the first here, I feel like I deserve a reward of some sort." He knew that he was being cheeky, but Terence really couldn't help himself when she smiled at him that way.

"Oh you make me blush Terence," she smiled once more at him, "You look as handsome as ever," and that was no lie. Terence was always attractive and she had never been afraid to admit that. In Janelle's opinion it would be silly for someone not to notice. He was a pureblood and devilishly attractive, and she was sure he had a good job these days.

"Oh thank you, red will go well I think. We are having a choice of steak and chicken." Janelle made sure to have a choice of either and a vegetarian dish as well just in case. When he spoke of a reward she couldn't help but raise her eyebrow. "A reward you say?" She took a step towards him and got a little close as she took the bottle of wine from his hand. "I am definitely okay with having a drink."

She walked over to the table and pulled two glasses from it and opened up the bottle of wine pouring a glass for herself and Terence. "Here you are," she said handing one to him. "So Terence do tell me what are you doing these days that keeps you so busy that I have not seen you in far too long."

Terence smiled at her reaction to the compliment. He thought about earlier that week, when he'd run into Cho Chang in Diagon and how she couldn't even speak to him like a respectable person. Janelle was the sort of girl that he liked to have around, she didn't seem too complicated. "Is that all it takes to make you blush, Janelle? I've hardly been in the room five minutes," Terence asked incredulously.

"Everything smells wonderful," he said as he followed her further into the apartment. She stepped close to him to take the bottle of wine, closer than necessary, Terence noted. He allowed his fingers to brush against hers as she took the bottle. "Every good deed deserves a reward, it's a wonderful philosophy," Terence added.

"I work for the Ministry in Accidents and Catastrophes," Terence said over his glass. His job paid well, most of the jobs in that department did, but things were going better for Terence now that the Ministry was finally functioning properly. "The work keeps me busy, and I like it, so I can't complain. What about yourself? What sort of job has kept you from seeing me, Janelle?" he asked in return.

"I usually don't blush that easily, apparently you have some skill in that department." Janelle joked a bit as she moved into her apartment more. "Oh thank you Terence, it is the work of my mother's house elf, if I was cooking it I wouldn't trust to feed it to you. I ca cook for myself but I am not putting others through that." Janelle joked, she wasn't as bad of a cook as she made herself out to be.

"Yes I do agree, ever good deed deserves a reward and I am happy to reward you when you deserve it." Janelle sipped at her class of wine as he spoke of what he did. "Well that is a good place to be, and has only become better off with new legislation." Janelle tilted her head as she shrugged her shoulders. "Well I have been doing a few things. I worked at Misty Missy's tea house, course it was shut down cause of the batty old muggleborn." She hated to admit she worked for a muggleborn but it had been a good job. "I now work as the front desk girl at the Daily Prophet."

"Would you like to come sit in the living room with me?" She motioned towards the living room as she started to head towards it.

"You shouldn't praise me so much, I'll get cocky," Terence warned, joking a bit, but serious as well. "But I wouldn't mind figuring out just how skilled I am at making you blush," he added with a smirk. Terence got along well with women, but he wasn't normally this flirtatious. He supposed it was just Janelle.

"And you shouldn't have to worry about cooking. Why do elves exist if not to do things for us that we don't want to do ourselves? I'm sure you're not as bad as you say you are, at least you've taken time to do a bit of it for yourself," Terence said.

"The Ministry's finally taking hold of the power it's always been entitled to," Terence said seriously. "Things aren't as they should be yet, but the new legislation is certainly helping." He remembered hearing about Misty Missy's tea house. Terence hadn't known that Janelle had been working there. "I'd say the Prophet would be a much better place to work than some mudblood's tea place. There are a lot of opportunities there for you, as well as in the Ministry if that sort of work ever interested you."

"Thank you for hosting tonight. That's a deed worth rewarding in itself," Terence said as he followed her to the living room, taking the opportunity to appreciate her dress as they went.

"Mm, I would mind let you see how much you could make me blush," that flirtatious smile on her face. She always enjoyed Terence's company before and this just made her remember just how much she enjoyed it.

"Yes, I am considering getting my own house elf but this place is so small I have a feeling they will just bug me." Janelle knew she could punish them for it but still they would be bored having so little to do. She kept the place clean as it was and hse didn't really need one.

Janelle nodded her head as Terence spoke of the Ministry. "They will get to how things should be eventually." Janelle nodded her head, "Yes I agree the Prophet is much better for me. I like the Prophet for now, I am not sure what I would do at the Ministry."

"You're welcome," she sat down on the couch crossing one leg over the other. "Do you plan to reward me for hosting for tonight?"

Terence quirked an eyebrow at her statement, she was more bold than he'd really expected her to be. "I'll remember that, perhaps for a more convenient time. I couldn't have you greeting your other guests all flushed after you've taken such care with your appearance this evening," Terence said with a smile. He took the opportunity to brush a stray lock of hair behind her ear. Besides that, she looked perfect.

"At least you're doing something that you like, the Prophet is the only respectable paper we've got going, and there are certainly things for you to do there if you want a career out of it," he said. Terence had nearly finished his glass of wine, so he set it aside. He didn't want to have too much before the others showed up.

"What sort of a reward would you enjoy?" Terence asked, not yet promising or agreeing to anything.

"Yes a more convenient time, I don't want to ruin my appearance by getting all red and flushed." She looked at him as he brushed hair behind her ear and it actually brought a bit of pink to her cheeks, she couldn't remember the last time someone had done that. "Thank you." she took a sip of her wine.

"Yes, I enjoy what I am doing now but I hope to do something a bit more exciting eventually, and if the opportunity approaches me than I think I will do it." Janelle looked up at him as he put his glass down. "So what do you do at the Ministry?"

Janelle thought about her reward and smirked a bit at the idea. "Well I wouldn't mind a fancy dinner out and some dancing, well I suppose just the dinner could do." Some reason ever guy she knew was apprehensive of dancing.

Terence sighed when she asked what it was that he did in his department. Being an Obliviator came with its perks, but if he ever had to tamper with somebody's memory, especially a person who knew that he was an Obliviator, then it made it much more difficult for him to work without being suspected of memory alteration.

"I'm an Obliviator," Terence said. "I do most of my work on muggles, like if they see one of our buildings appear out of thin air, I take care of it, but I work a bit with the MLE as well." He didn't feel like he really needed to explain his job, most people knew what Obliviators did.

"I'm sure that you wouldn't," Terence said with a smirk. Of course she'd specifically said a fancy dinner out. Terence wouldn't particularly mind taking her out. "That could be a suitable reward that I could arrange, but the dancing would depend on where you'd like to go." Terence thought that dancing, in general, was just an excuse for groping in the dark. He personally thought there were much more efficient ways to accomplish that particular goal.

Janelle nodded her head, "Well that is a great job," Janelle could see Terence being an oblivator, and if she was ever to need her memory altered she would trust Terence to, but she just hope she never had the need for that.

"Well the dancing I would prefer to go to some were more suitable and less of a dive." Janelle had her standards and she didn't want to go somewhere with little class and was a dark hole in the wall. If she wanted to be in a dark place gyrating against someone she knew a much better place for that. She didn't mind the place she had been to Caleb with though. "Dinner would be enough an award for me though."

"Beer?" Caleb raises a hand in acknowledgement of Terence when he spotted him over on the couch. Summoning the manners drilled into him, he smiled at Janelle. "You look lovely this evening." It was certainly a true statement and better yet fulfilled his requirement for complimenting. It had been a long, long day and if he'd not already told her he would be here, he would be in his bed by now.

He just hoped he didn't fall asleep in the soup.

"A beer I can do," Janelle called the elf to attention and told him to get Caleb a beer. "Oh thank you Caleb, I am glad you could make it." She grinned at him and looked towards the living room. "Would you like to join Terence and I in the living room while we wait for the others?

"Sure." He followed her into the living room and sprawled on a chair. The couch was already occupied with Higgs and he was certain his old quidditch mate would much rather have Miss Dorny sharing that cushion than him. Once the elf returned with his drink, he took a long pull on it.

"Thanks for the invitation, Janelle. Who are you expecting?" He grinned roguishly. "Or was this just a ploy to get to eligible Slyth batchelors all to yourself?"

Janelle walked back to the living room and watched as Caleb took the chair and Janelle went back to her spot next to Terence. "Would you like another glass of wine Terence?" Since the elf was around why not ask the guests if they wanted something. "Or would you like to wait for dinner."

"Oh you are welcome Caleb." She laughed as he asked if she was getting all the bachelors together. "Me looking to settle down?" Janelle laughed at the thought. "I cannot help it if all the guests but two are Slytherin bachelors." She rolled her eyes and one she had dated and would rather not again. "Adrian Pucey and Verity De Luca are due to arrive, and my co-worker and friend Padrig Cadwallader." She had this smirk on her face, "Please don't decide to serve the Hufflepuff up on a platter." She looked at both Terence and Caleb. She knew Padrig was an odd person to invite but for some reason he was appearing more Slytherin than she had ever expected of a Hufflepuff.

"Evening, Warrington," Terence greeted when Caled stepped into Janelle's apartment. Caleb had done well in quidditch at school, even if he had always been relatively quiet. "How's life going without my constant guidance and instruction? You're working with the MLE now, aren't you?" He asked with a smile as he sat further back into the couch.

"I'm fine, thank you," Terence said when Janelle asked about his wine. "You can try to get me drunk after dinner," he added with a wink.

Terence didn't try to hide his surprise when Janelle announced that she'd invited Padrig. "Cadwallader's going to be joining us tonight, eh?" he asked with amusement. "I don't think I'd serve him on anything as nice as a platter," Terence began, rolling his eyes, "But if it's important to you, I'll be decent toward your friend. Can't make guarantees for anybody else." He shrugged and placed both of his arms across the back of the couch, one going around Janelle's shoulders by pure coincidence.

"I'm muddling through," Caleb replied dryly. Constant guidance, indeed. Constant busy-bodying was more accurate. "Yeah, I'm with the Hit Wizards. I get paid to intimidate people and toss them in jail. What are you doing these days?"

He was tempted to add 'other than the same 'innocent stretch' move that he'd used regularly on the couch in the Common Room.

"Only muddling? Then you are missing my influence," Terence said with a smirk. "If you find yourself in a rough spot, I'm on level three with the Obliviators," he added seriously. Terence often felt the need to assert himself over others, but these people were his friends, and he really did believe that they had to look out for one another.

"I'm around the MLE a bit, but not enough to have run into you, I suppose. Haven't made use of your reserved bed at St. Mungo's yet, have you? That bit of the job was enough to keep me out."

"Alright Terence I will hold you to that," she chuckled a bit after she spoke. "And I thank you in advanced for taking some restraint and being somewhat civilized with my friend." She just hoped Padrig did end up showing up and that he didn't feel at all threatened.

Janelle looked over and saw his arm move to the back of his couch and she laughed a little. "The stretch move Terence? I didn't know you still used that." Janelle joked as she got comfortable on her seat as she listened to the guys catch up.

"Please let me know if you want anything while we wait." She had to play the good hostess of course when it came to having a house elf she didn't really have to move much.

"Not yet. They try not to let the trainees get beaten to a pulp until after we pass our last tests and sign our lives away to the Ministry." He'd seen his room at St. Mungos, of course, for the endless hours of Apparation training that made going there automatic. But his own encounters and training accidents hadn't warrented more than a few potions and a trip by the in-house mediwizard.

He was a teeny bit late, but that was all his mother's fault. He'd gone to the townhouse to get a bottle of white from the wine cellar to take to Janelle's, and she'd started talking, and talking, and talking. Mothers. Honestly.

At least she wasn't (currently) trying to marry him off.

Padrig had ended up rowing with Marietta about where he was going, because she'd shown up home for once, and he'd been left with no good explanation other than dinner at a friend's. Strangely, she hadn't believed him, and instead wildly accused him of going off to do work for Bellatrix again. Strange, because it was one of the few nights this week he hadn't.

Eventually he'd just pulled his outer robe on over his shirt and trousers and left, leaving her shouting in the kitchen. Maybe he just wouldn't come home tonight. It was all he could do to not curse her. Just once he'd like to shut her up, to see her screaming in pain on the floor.

When he arrived, he was buttoning his top buttons, and he smoothed his hand over his hair, the bottle of wine he'd stopped for under his arm, as he waited for someone to answer the door.

"Hello." Pig handed her the bottle of wine, feeling he'd barely caught his breath. It irked him to arrive all fussed at Marietta, but there you had it. "I would," he said. "Wine or something stronger if you have it, just for now." He ran his hand over his hair in consideration. He could hear the sounds of people talking inside, mostly male voices, and wondered who she had all invited. Slytherins, she had said.

He followed her into the lounge and nodded in greeting to those assembled there. Interesting. All men and Janelle? He would definitely need a drink. It promised to be an interesting evening.
