This whole creepy mist thing, was unnerving to say the least -- right now reports were that that it was localised to the forest, which was both good and bad. Good, because well, it meant they weren't trapped in their homes entirely, there were places it was safe to go. Bad, because in three days time, they'd need the woods to change in, knowing the Island three days could see it get better, or it could see it get much worse, there really wasn't any knowing which it would be. Given this generally unpredictable standard of their home, it was almost always wise to take advantage of anything, whilst it was available. So with time off from the hospital, Nina, George and there near two-and-a-half year old daughter, Eve had headed to the park. Venturing to the park a few days before a full moon was rather a good idea; their reflexes and senses were at their very sharpest. Nina liked to think Eve was a good reflection on them both, she generally did as she was told, she knew to say her please and thank yous, she didn't sprint off without warning and with other kids to grow up with most of the time, she was a good sharer. Though she did have the tendency to remove all of her clothing when she randomly decided it was an opportune time, be it in the living room, or in a public space (a habit attributed solely to George, Nina fondly decided) As they reached the play area of the park, Eve happily squirmed to be let down. And sure enough, as George set the toddler down on her feet she clambered up the jungle gym a little awkwardly but most independently. No doubt her goal was eventually the slide, but she bounced gleefully away on the wobbly bridge, hanging on to the rail tightly. Really there wasn't much for them to do but stand close by and watch her play. Or join in on it if she called to them. Watching Eve, she still felt a pang of disbelief at how big their daughter was now, it seemed horribly cliché to 'wonder where the time went' - but it was heartbreakingly true. Especially given the fact Nina had missed months of Eve's life. She'd been scared she'd been forgotten, or even resented. It was a relief how quickly happiness had returned to their little family and how life had settled to what it ought to be so easily once more. She sighed a little, looking between George and their daughter with a smile. There were other things on her mind too, and looking out at the city in the distance, the thoughts returned. "We're going to have to do something about Thursday night with all the mist in the woods. I don't think it's safe." Despite her words, her tone was generally easy, pretty much conversational, without being anxious. She wasn't about to ruin the afternoon, with days still to prepare, she was sure it'd work out, but they'd have to start thinking. |
