Once again Rachel was nervous. She’d been spending a lot of time nervous lately. She waited the thirty minutes that Ty asked and then made her way to his apartment. She wore her usual t-shirt and jeans, her usual attire but left her hair down. Rachel took a deep breath and let it out slowly before she knocked on Ty’s door. This was not going to be easy.

"I'm Rachel." She nodded. "It's nice to meet you, even under the circumstances." She kept rubbing her arms. "I have a lot of questions but they can wait until later."

"Pleasure to meet you Rachel." After she dropped the awkward salute, she leaned against Ty just a little, bringing her free hand up to rub over his arm just a little. "Hey, don't let me stop you from asking your questions. I'm just here because," she felt she needed to be. It was hard not to care for Ty a great deal, even if it was a whirlwind. She found it hard not to want to stand beside him, especially with as anxious as he'd been.

"No, it's fine. Stay... I'm sorry." He shortly pressed his thumb against the root of his nose before he sighed. "It's not an ideal situation. For all of us." Shepard included. "But we will find a way to deal with it. Uhm, how about that coffee or tea?" he asked. He started to feel calmer. Maybe because the most awkward parts were over or maybe simply because Shepard was at his side - still at his side - and didn't seem to want to go anywhere. "Do you want to tell Anders in private or do you want to do it when he comes back?"

"Some tea would be good." She nodded before running her fingers through her hair. "I..." she sighed. "God I really wish I could get away with not telling him at all. There's this voice in my head telling me that he's not going to care." She shook her head. "I think it'll be better if I tell him in private."

"And besides, I hear babies are supposed to be an awesome, happy thing." And she had little to no experience with them. "Not the end of the world, kind of the start of one." Shepard was trying to bring a little cheer into the situation. But she couldn't hide the face she pulled at the idea of telling Anders. He did seem like kind of a player. "If he's an ass, let me know, I can totally take him down." She wouldn't hurt him, just make the shorter god say Uncle.

"I will kick his ass if he misbehaves," Ty said. His brother would better man up. If Anders would become a father, he would better take responsibility for it and do the right thing. He took two steps into the direction of the kitchen. "Shep... could you? I'm not sure any water feels inclined to boil around me right now."

She ran her fingers through his hair. "It's okay if he does act up. I really didn't expect much from him anyway." She shrugged.

"Yeah of course." Shepard smiled at him. Pressing a little kiss on his cheek as she passed. One of her favorite parts of him getting riled up, kissing him and feeling the tingling against her lips.

She moved into the kitchen and spoke up. "If a kid is involved he needs to man up. Besides he'd have someone to pass his charms onto." She knew Ty would likely roll his eyes at that prospect. "Rachel, what do you like in your tea?"

Ty didn't roll his eyes and instead settled for an incredulous frown. "Yes, the 'please, smack me' kind of charm." It was a lot easier to talk about Anders becoming a father than his possible future.

"He's not that bad all the time. Sometimes he's okay." She ran her fingers through her hair again. "But he won't..." She shook her head. "It doesn't really matter. I can handle this. I don't want him around if he doesn't want to be. If he's even the father."

Shepard brought in a few mugs on a tray, with a thing of milk, one of sugar, a few spoons and a few different teas to choose from and set it on the table. Seeing no harm in going to fetch the kettle once it was ready. "I've got to hope he would want to be, at least a little bit. Maybe not holding your hand or anything, but at least enough so the kid knows who it's father is." She liked Anders, he wasn't a bad guy.

Ty sighed as he set down away from both Shepard and Rachel. No, need to make them feel even more uncomfortable. "Anders... I don't know. He can make the right decisions but..." He shook his head. "... he's a wanker most of the time."

"Ty...what if it is you or Anders? Am I going to be raising a god?" She placed her hand on her belly. The thought kind of scared her.

Shepard retreated into the kitchen when the kettle started to whistle, fetching it as she spoke. "I've actually been doing a little research... for, well..." She actually blushed as she brought the heated water into the room. "Reasons, that's why." She cut a glance at Ty, and cleared her throat. "Turns out both Mom and Pop have to be god and goddess for baby to be. Are you a goddess?" She honestly didn't know so it wasn't a sarcastic question or anything.

Ty looked at his girlfriend astonished. She had done research about what it would be like to have kids with him? Or had she just done research about gods in general? Where did she find out about it anyway? Olaf barely had a clue and here was Shepard having all the answers. "Yes, she's right. You don't have to worry about it." He looked at Shepard with big questioning eyes.

Rachel shook her head. "No, I'm not a goddess." She relaxed almost visibly. "I just wasn't sure.." She bit her lip. She'd been standing the whole time, arms wrapped around herself, not sure if she should take a seat.

"Why don't you have a seat, you look like you're ready to jump." It was a light tease, but Rachel looked so uncomfortable that Shepard couldn't help but want to comfort her. Especially if it meant avoiding the question in Ty's eyes, for just a few minutes anyway. "And you had questions?" Or were those two it?

"That was pretty much it." She smiled a little as she took a seat. She took a deep breath and let it out slowly again, trying to relax completely. The stress couldn't be good for the baby. "I'm not really sure what to do, you know? Other than have the baby, that is. Beyond that I'm totally clueless. " She sighed.

"It's still a long way to go," Ty said. "We'll figure something out. Let's see if there's a way to find out who the father is first. That would help a lot." The last sentence was muttered. This was a bit of a nightmare.

Shepard selected a couple relaxation tea bags from the group she'd brought out, settled them in a cup and poured hot water over it, before offering it to Rachel. And went about preparing Ty's, and then her own. Offering him his. Knowing it might not help if he couldn't taste it, but hoped that holding the cup and giving his hands something to do would, a little.

"I can't help with baby things, research will have to be done. Can't say I've looked into having one, and things are a lot different a hundred and seventy-ish years from now." Like there were no oops babies if you were military. Settling down beside Ty, regardless of his temperature. "But handling it one step at a time is the only way you can do it."

Rachel smiled and nodded as she took the tea, taking a sip before she looked at Ty.

"If I could find out exactly how far along I was accurately then I could at least narrow it down to whether or not you were the father. But there's no way to know for sure." She sighed and took another sip of her tea.

When Shep settled down, he felt immediately better. So far he had been careful when it comes to mention Shepard around Rachel, he didn't want to rub it in how happy he currently was - how very much in love he was. And even though he hadn't said it yet, his heart very much told so. But right now, he couldn't help it. He needed the comfort that she provided and let his hand settle onto her thigh and rub it softly.

"I thought you didn't enquire about a magical way?" Ty asked slightly confused. He hadn't seen anything on the network but then he doubted he would ask that question and make it readable for him before she had broken the news to him.

Shepard frowned a little when Rachel mentioned that she didn't even know how far along she was. Though she settled her hand on top of Ty's. Lightly petting over his fingers with her own, not to stop his rubbing of her thigh, but to offer the same light, safe, affection.

"Is this place really that primitive?" She wasn't in the medical profession, but she hadn't realized the scans that made it common knowledge hadn't been invented yet.

"The scans can give you a rough estimate but it's not completely accurate." She sighed before sipping her tea again. She cleared her throat to keep her emotions in check as she watched them. She really was happy for Ty. "I haven't had a chance to ask about magical means, yet. I don't want to exactly go and announce to everyone what's going on." She looked into her tea.

Ty nodded. He could understand her hesitation which did not mean that he wanted to encourage it. It was something that effected his life as well. "What about writing them privately?" he suggested. Ty caught Shep's finger with his thumb and rubbed it, quickly flashing her a smile.
