Once again Rachel was nervous. She’d been spending a lot of time nervous lately. She waited the thirty minutes that Ty asked and then made her way to his apartment. She wore her usual t-shirt and jeans, her usual attire but left her hair down. Rachel took a deep breath and let it out slowly before she knocked on Ty’s door. This was not going to be easy.

Ty had no idea what Rachel wanted to talk to him about. Usually when you asked someone if you could talk without even giving them a hint what it was about, it wasn't to discuss dinner plans for next Friday. It was more the calibre of 'hey, I've just found out I'm HIV positive, you might wanna get yourself tested'. For him it was a relief when she accepted the place he had suggested. If she was okay with getting interrupted by Anders or Shepard, it couldn't be too much of a serious talk, could it? Then again... before Ty’s thoughts could go down the route of possible catastrophes a knock ripped him out of it. He gave his hair one last good rub with the towel before he opened the door (he wanted to avoid the danger of the water freezing in his hair).

"Hey, come on in," he said. He was clad in just a jeans and t-shirt, feet still bare and hair still a bit wet.

	"Thanks." She nodded and stepped into the apartment. She looked around for a moment before turning to Ty. "How was your run?" She cleared her throat. She should just cut to the chase but she was still building up the courage. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

If he had held anything in his hands, Ty was sure he would have dropped it. He was also certain that the air around him had to be freezing. "Uhm... what?" He took a deep breath. "But you said you were on the pill." He had always wanted to have a family. But not like this. He wanted the whole package. He wanted to crazily fall in love, to get married, to have a house together and to finally have kids.

"I am...I mean I was. But it's not 100%. I thought..." She sighed heavily. "I'm going to be completely honest here, Ty. There's a chance you're not the father. After I was stupid enough to push you away, I got even stupider and actually listened to Anders. But there is a chance that you could be, too." She was trying very hard not to visibly shiver. She rubbed her arms a bit. "I talked to Dr. Banner and he said the only safe way to do a paternity test is after the baby's born." She looked down for a moment before looking back at Ty. "I'm sorry. If I could find out now without risking miscarriage, I would."

	Ty sighed a sigh of relief. The hastily constructed future in his head wavered and crumbled again. It was not set in stone. "Wait, what do you mean with listened to Anders?" What had Anders told her? Had he Bragi'd her into doing something? (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

She took a deep breath and let it out slowly. "Right after I stopped being a man he recommended that I find a little no strings action. I ignored him because you'd already asked me out at that point. After I messed everything up I thought that maybe the only way I was really going to be over my ex was to just go have some fun and not worry about trying to be in a relationship. So I went through the door to Germany and I went into a bar and lived up to the typical bar maid reputation." She sighed. "It was ridiculous and stupid and now I have to live with it." She shrugged. "I invited Anders along because I didn't want to go alone and I knew he was the only one that wouldn't try to stop me."

After the run she had gone to her own apartment, Shepard hadn't wanted to, but she figured Ty would need some time to 'talk' with his former... Well whatever Rachel had been. So she'd gone home, showered, dressed, in her civvies-a white Alliance tee shirt and multipocketed trousers- and tugged her hair up into a ponytail. Throwing her jogging shoes back on, she'd taken her time. Hoping it was enough.

It hadn't taken her long to find the easiest paths through the city from Stark Tower to the apartments. She took the shortest one she knew of, anxious to get back to him. Once there she'd taken two steps at a time until she reached the sixth floor.

From there she paced, from the top of the stairs to the end of the hall, glad the trainers kept her foot steps quiet. Trying to give them more time. It wasn't until she felt the temperature change, saw the puff of breath stream from her lips, that she knocked on the door. It was a rapid, almost nervous knock.

Of course, Anders would make a suggestion like that. Sex was his solution to everything. He would have rolled his eyes if the news wouldn't have been so heavy on his mind. "So there's me and a German bloke...?" he started to ask before a knock interrupted his question and thoughts. Anders didn't knock which made the most likliest source his girlfriend. His heart tightened. This wasn't a good conversation to have in front of her but he didn't send her away. Why hadn't Rachel asked him over to her apartment? Why was he even in this situation?

"Come in," he said with a sigh. This was going to get even more awkward.

Shepard opened the door. It was customary for her to knock, simply because there was always that small chance that Anders would stroll around naked just to mess with Ty. But this time she'd known, he wouldn't likely be.

She gave a short smile to Rachel, before finding Ty's side. Knowing, by the temperature of the room, that he was out of sorts. She wanted to take his hand in her own, to show her support. Whatever had just been said, she was there.

"Hey..." he whispered softly as Shepard joined his side. He returned her smile, the muscles in his face relaxing before he faced Rachel again. "I... uhm... I don't know. Is there maybe some magical way to find out?" He didn't want to tell Shep just yet but he didn't want to leave her hanging either. "Rachel is pregnant. I might or might or might not be the father."

	"Or maybe an uncle." She said very softly, looking down. She really hated that she had to admit to that. When she saw Shepard and Ty together a pit formed in her gut, but she ignored it. It was a fight not to let her jaw drop a little. Or an uncle. Then she didn't resist taking his hand, regardless of the chill. Fingers winding into his. "Well, one step at a time." Shepard squeezed his fingers between her own. Stroking her calloused thumb over the side of his hand.

Giving Rachel a little smile. "Not the end of the world. Not the best circumstances, but... Hey, a baby, right?"

	Uncle... Ty just stared at her for a moment. "Oh, you are fucking shitting me," he muttered. Anders? He hadn't thought her to be that type of a woman. "He didn't talk you into it, did he?" The feeling of Shepard’s hand kept him from letting his temper take over and he squeezed it gently, thanking her for her support. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Rachel shook her head. "Like I said, I was being stupid. I just...I don't even know what I was thinking. I wasn't thinking." She took a deep breath and let it out slowly, trying to keep her emotions under control. She cleared her throat. "I'm sorry. I'll...ask around. Find out what I can. Maybe there's a way to find out now. I don't know what else to do." She closed her eyes. "I never should have said anything. I'm sorry."

"Babe," She warned slightly, blowing out a breath between her lips so that he could see just how chilly he was making it. Shepard knew if one person could get a rise out of Ty it was Anders. Sometimes she liked watching them banter, having had no brothers or sisters herself.

"Don't feel sorry about being honest. Especially now, I mean there are things that... I mean maybe you can't find out who the dad is, but if you waited, Anders and Ty could miss out on all the stuff that comes with the growth of... You know?" She wasn't good with baby things. Especially considering there wasn't a single thing you couldn't find out about your kid in her time. But a lot of it hadn't been invented yet. "We haven't been introduced yet. I'm Commander Shepard of the Alliance Military, and SPECTRE from Council space." And she was bad at being a civilian, considering she saluted Rachel with her freehand. "Er uh, but you can call me Shepard."

	Ty took a deep breath. "Sorry," he mumbled shortly before Shepard started to introduce himself. It wasn't Rachel's fault. She hadn't wanted this either. "Pleasure to meet you Rachel." After she dropped the awkward salute, she leaned against Ty just a little, bringing her free hand up to rub over his arm just a little. "Hey, don't let me stop you from asking your questions. I'm just here because," she felt she needed to be. It was hard not to care for Ty a great deal, even if it was a whirlwind. She found it hard not to want to stand beside him, especially with as anxious as he'd been.

"No, it's fine. Stay... I'm sorry." He shortly pressed his thumb against the root of his nose before he sighed. "It's not an ideal situation. For all of us." Shepard included. "But we will find a way to deal with it. Uhm, how about that coffee or tea?" he asked. He started to feel calmer. Maybe because the most awkward parts were over or maybe simply because Shepard was at his side - still at his side - and didn't seem to want to go anywhere. "Do you want to tell Anders in private or do you want to do it when he comes back?"

"And besides, I hear babies are supposed to be an awesome, happy thing." And she had little to no experience with them. "Not the end of the world, kind of the start of one." Shepard was trying to bring a little cheer into the situation. But she couldn't hide the face she pulled at the idea of telling Anders. He did seem like kind of a player. "If he's an ass, let me know, I can totally take him down." She wouldn't hurt him, just make the shorter god say Uncle.

	"I will kick his ass if he misbehaves," Ty said. His brother would better man up. If Anders would become a father, he would better take responsibility for it and do the right thing.
