It was too beautiful a day to be burying the only girl he'd ever love. He had been seethingly angry for days, and honestly he still was angry but that had to be put to one side and filtered away for this day. This day was for her and her alone. He wore the only suit he owned, pitch black and fitted but her glasses were tucked into his handkerchief pocket, over his heart. He'd already placed her inside the grave and looked around at the turn out. He hadn't expected much, honestly. "Marta was... the most brilliant woman I knew. She changed me in more ways than one, in more than two." He said confidently with a lull in his tone. "She risked everything to stay with me, even when she could have left, had a new life. But it killed her in the end." he swallowed and picked up the shovel.

He couldn't watch the first few shovel fulls of dirt on top of her body, wrapped in the best linens with flowers on top of her. He had to do this right, do right by her before he got back to drinking himself stupid and finding the people who killed her. He gripped the shovel with an iron fist and took a deep breath. "She'd hate me for mentioning God in this..." he chuckled dryly, "But if there is a Heaven, she's there trying to scientifically disprove its existence." Aaron gritted his jaw tightly and looked down into her half-empty grave, unable to move away from the spot. She needed to be done right by. He'd failed her once but he wouldn't do it again.

Juliet didn't usually go to funerals. She usually saw them as a notch in the demon world's belt, instead of hers, so she had usually moved on, or gone looking for something else. But Cass had said they should all go, and Auggie had agreed, and set up the systems to send them any information if Hummingbird came across anything.

She didn't know either the woman being buried, or the man who spoke, but she could see how badly her death was affecting him. And she couldn't help but smile as his comment about her being in heaven and trying to disprove its existence. Humour was always a good way to deflect pain.

She watched Cass walk up to the grave and drop something in, wondering what it was and craning her neck to take a look. Just before a shovel full of soil covered it she saw the talisman and blinked, looking at the woman and wondering where she'd picked that up from, storing it away as something she'd look into later.

Looking around she wondered if Izzy was going to be there, worried that her friend might be taking this a little too close and believe the same could happen to Tommy. She slipped her hand in her pocket and partially pulled her communicator out of her pocket, scrolled and saw Tommy's name still there and slipped it back in again, turning her attention back to who was there, and looking for Izzy.

Izzy wasn't particularly keen on funerals. The last one she'd attended had been her mother's, and seeing the wrapped body down in the grave only brought back the memories of that time. It didn't help that Tom was still out there, missing, and they had no idea where he was.

She didn't know how she felt about Tom, but she didn't want him dead or hurt. At one point Izzy was pretty sure she was falling in love with him, then he'd turned all asshole on her suddenly before he vanished. Now she had two adult or nearly adult children running around that were part of both of them and she had no idea what to do or how she should be feeling about the situation.

Juliet finally saw who she was looking out for and slowly backed out of the group gathered around the grave, making her way around the outside of them, before reaching in silently and tugging lightly on the sleeve of Izzy's jacket.

Izzy turned at the tug on her sleeve and saw her friend. A brief smile appeared on her face before it faded to the more introspective expression she'd been wearing before Juliet made her presence known.

Juliet hooked her arm through her friend's, waiting with her as everyone went through their processes of saying goodbye.

Izzy waited in silence for the ceremony to end and then excused herself after paying her condolences to the grieving boyfriend. She hadn't known either of them but had seen the posts on the network.

The girls didn't seem to need her help, hell, Rachel was as old as she was! Izzy felt completely at sea on this.

She turned to Juliet. "So, am I cracking up yet?"

"You have every right to be, but if you are? You're doing a bloody good job of hiding it," Juliet told her in a soft voice only able to be heard by Izzy.

"I just don't know what to do, or how I should even feel about it." Izzy confessed as they drifted away from the funeral site. "I mean I really liked him, but then he was turning into a jerk, but I have two kids with him. Kids who are either as old as I am or in their late teens and current me has had no hand in raising, but still..."

Marta's burial - Izzy/Juliet

Juliet looped her arm tighter through Izzy's as they walked along, heading to Mitchell's pub for the wake. "I can't even begin to figure out how that must feel," she told her 'sister'. "And we will find him, I promise, and when we do? After Jake's finished kicking his ass? I'll be finding out what the hell has been going on. Richie told me about what happened on the beach, so yeah, even though Jake said Tommy wasn't any different..." She shrugged and tried to lighten her friend's spirit a little. "Maybe he was just jealous? I mean, all of a sudden you've got this young hottie with a dragon landing in the middle of your special time, and hell, what did he have to compete with that?"

"If that's the case he was still holding a grudge when we got together for dinner that one night." Izzy shrugged.

"I had to threaten to have Tony lock Sarah out of the labs to get her to sleep, and I had to promise to watch her instruments while she gets some rest." She shook her head, not sure what to make of the whole thing.

"I bet. She's pretty lost, and have a think, put yourself in their shoes for a minute. Sarah's still a teenager, whose parents are suddenly not her parents yet, and are not even talking, and now one's disappeared. Tommy's been their dad all their lives. How would you be if your mom or dad had disappeared suddenly?" She gave Izzy's arm a squeeze. "Don't you reckon you'd be going a little nutso?"

"I guess." Izzy allowed, a bit reluctantly. "She's a good kid, and I feel guilty about playing the parent card when I haven't had any experience in raising her yet. I don't think her experiments are going to help find Tom, nothing anyone does seems to work."

She liked Tom, or at least the Tom she'd known before he started turning into a first class jerk toward her. "I don't want to have to tell them their dad isn't coming back."

"Then don't. We'll find him, Izzy. It's getting a little harder, with the authorities now all over the place, shutting down the area, but Tony's done some deal with them and we're being allowed to send in one of ours on the search teams. There's a whole lot of buildings that haven't been fully searched, like down in the basement levels. You remember the one you and Richie were nearly caught in? Like that. So who knows, maybe he's down in one of those. Just keep reminding yourself his name is still on this," she said, pulling her communicator out of her pocket and showing Izzy, the screen already open on Tommy's info. "That means he's alive, and if the worse comes to the worse, when the door closes he'll be brought back from wherever he is."
