Who: All the Norse people and their following
What: Madness
When: Yesterday at various times
Where: All over the place
Status: Unfinished

It had been a normal day for everyone. People were going about their own business, some on the station, some on Midgard, some in Asgard... you get my drift. But they would not be separated for long. Reunions that were never meant started to happen.

Astrid followed the lights as they led her and Hródolf through the strangest of places. She nearly jumped out of her skin when the lights had her touch one part of the bizarre walls, only for part of it to vanish. It was only the fact that Hródolf was fast asleep that kept her from screaming.

They walked very far, although the ground was flat and there were no rivers to cross or animals to avoid. Then they arrived at a point where touching the wall made a small room appear. The lights bade her enter the room, and it was only her trust in the Gods that made her do so. A strange rune was the next thing she had to touch, and then the room moved. She clutched at Hródolf as she refused to give into the panic that was threatening to take over her mind - she was born of warriors, the wife of a warrior, sister of warriors and the mother of future warriors, so she would not give into her fears - but then the moving room stopped. The doors opened without her having to touch anything, and the lights appeared once more.

Hródolf stirred against her at that point, and she wished to keep her son quiet for as long as possible so she began to sing softly to him as he fussed. It was a song she remembered her mother singing when her brothers were younger, and it was one of Hródolf's favorites. Following the lights soon led her to a very strange place indeed. She was glancing round at the room full of little tables and chairs, and with a wall covered in glass bottles, when the lights vanished.

"No... No, come back..." she asked, but they were gone. Now what?

"Hello? Anyone?" she said, loud enough to carry through the room, before quickly turning her attention back to her son who was beginning to stir once more. Time for more singing.

She knew that song. She knew that song! What sort of day was this? First one daughter, and then the next? The doors to her apartment, which was part of the club, parted. Ands he made a strangled noise as she covered her mouth. Norse had been what had been flowing out of her mouth for the past hour, it was easy to remain in that mind set.

"Astrid? Is it really you?" Bryn dared to speak louder than a whisper, her voice did crack.

Astrid looked round at the strange sound she heard, then muttered a quick prayer of thanks to the Gods as she moved to see who was speaking.

"I am Astrid Magnusdóttir, yes. Who is asking?" she answered, standing tall as she spoke. She would not show fear in this place.

"Astrid, you do not know my face?" Her hands slid from her mouth. Her daughters did her proud. No fear with either of them. In spite of the fearsome situation they were put in. Though she could not hold the fact that neither knew her on first sight. After all she had been 'dead' for probably ten years if not more, for them.

Brynhild stood straighter. "I am Brynhild of Ingouf. Wife of Magnus."

Astrid had taken a few steps closer to the woman, then stopped when she took her hands away from her face. She was familiar, yes, but it wasn't until she spoke again that Astrid realised why.

"Mother?!" she blurted out, and then stopped. "But... You're dead. Does that mean... Am I dead? Hródolf too?" Her son was hugged close as she thought out loud; the little boy grabbed hold of Astrid's hair and babbled something in her ear before shoving a fist in his mouth. Had something killed her baby and she'd known nothing about it?

Bryn dared to step closer, when she did. Living only a few between them. "You are not dead. Neither is Hródolf." She could not resist the smile she gave her grandson if she had tried. "The gods have seen fit that I not completely die. But it cost me greatly." It meant she had to watch her beloved children grow at a distance. That she could only arrange things in their favor at night.

"Brenna is here too." Had they been parted yet? Was her younger sister still alive? These are questions Bryn had never thought she'd face.

Astrid could only stare at her mother, obviously confused by what she was saying. "I don't understand. You and Father... Is my father here as well?" Would Hródolf meet his grandparents? All her much younger brothers and her own children were told tales of the exploits of Magnus and Brynhild, but Hródolf could actually meet them!

She nodded at the news that Brenna was wherever they were. Good. "Where is here, Mother? I followed the lights that the Gods sent me, so I know they are here with us, but this is like nowhere I have ever been before. Does Brenna know?"

Bryn shook her head slowly. "No, Magnus is still..." Unless this place threw more things at her this day, and that would make things much more awkward than they were.

Well that certainly answered her question. "We are among the stars." She knew the word 'space' wouldn't mean much. It didn't mean a whole lot to her, especially since they were in a part of it that was unknown to the most of them. "You'll have to be more specific with what Brenna knows."

"I see... How is it that you were spared death, then? And what was the cost?" There was no accusation in her tone, only curiosity.

"The stars? Gods save us, why have they brought us here? And does Brenna know about the stars, I mean." She could not imagine why they would be in the stars, or what they would find there.

Hródolf started squirming at that point. His mam was being silly, and the other lady had mentioned Aunt Brenna! He wanted to see her! "Mam! Benna!" he said, and twisted to look round at the other lady. "Benna here?"

"Shhh, shhh," Astrid murmured in his ear, trying to calm him down a little, but he wanted to be off exploring. "Fine," she said, and set him down on his feet. He promptly made his way over to his grandmother. "Benna!"

"Are you prepared for a shock? The cost was seeing the lives of my children flash before my eyes, without being able to do much beyond leave things in the night." And knowing Magnus was out of reach for a indefinite amount of time. There was a lot of loss on her plate.

"The gods have not brought us here, something a touch more powerful has, I would think. Thor and Loki are here, as is Frigga." How old where her brothers? Did she know of Christian things yet? Their god, and the angels?

Bryn had taken the time to dress in something they were more used to seeing. A long hide doublet over a coarse top, and split skirt/trousers that easy to fight in if she had too. It also meant she didn't flash any skin when she crouched down as Hródolf approached. "Aunt Benna is resting."

Leave things in the night? Suddenly, a lot of things made sense - the food that showed up, the near-constant supply of wood and hides, all manner of things. Astrid glanced down at her son, then back at her mother. "Oh, Mam, I'm... Thank you."

"I know Loki is here. It was his snake I spoke to, before the lights appeared," she admitted, closing the gap between her and her mother while Hródolf spoke to her. "Hródolf, this is your Nan. She's my mam. From the stories, remember? Say hello."

Her son simply shoved his fist in his mouth, since there were more teeth on the way, and grinned up at Bryn before mumbling something around his soggy hand that was probably "Hello, Nan."

"There are no thanks needed, I was just doing what a Mother does, as best as I could." Without being there not really. Then there didn't need to be a shock, maybe. Hopefully, not until it had to be known.

"Lights? What lights?" It shocked her that Loki made himself known to not one, but both daughters. "Thor will come later. His Mother has showed up just as you Hródolf and Brenna has, and he must see to her."

Bryn felt the big smile spread over her face. "Hello, it is a pleasure to meet you Hródolf."

"The lights that I followed," she explained. "I had gone out to fetch the pigs in, but then I was in a forest that I didn't know, but it was inside. So I asked the Gods for help, and a snake appeared. I knew it for Loki, so when it told me to follow, I did. The lights showed me the way to you, even taking me into a little room that moved." She hugged herself at the mention of the little room, clearly not a fan.

"The Gods will visit us? This place is right strange, Mam," she added. What had she done, that she now had a place in the stars with the Gods, she wondered, then looked around at her mother's place while Hródolf just reached for his Nan with his now-sodden hand and babbled happily at her. He grabbed a handful of Bryn's skirt and shook it as he told her stories.

Bryn put her hand over her mouth. Shocked that Loki would go out of his way, again today, to help one of her children. This was beyond anything she would ever be able to pay back. She sent out a little thank you of a prayer, and hoped that it would not confuse things.

Her fingers dropped from her mouth and she smiled. "Yes, it is strange the strangest I have seen in all my life. But you get used to it. The hardest part will be the language. But only Thor and Loki may visit." Though Loki was a surprise, she did hope her daughters offered him reprieve and not bother. The room they stood in was the club she had built. The bar in the front obscured where they were standing from the door.

Bryn offered her hands to Hródolf offering to lift him up if he would let her. "We can go in with Brenna. It is more like home than this."

"The language? Why? How should we speak?" Astrid knew that the people to the south spoke in a different tongue, and traders often spoke with strange accents, so it made sense to her that different places would have different tongues, but she had never learned any of them. Did the stars speak a completely different language to any she might already have heard?

Hródolf knew what that gesture meant, and laughed at his Nan before pulling her skirt up to hide his face. Astrid grinned down at her son. "He likes to walk, until he doesn't. But he's hiding from you now. Thinks you won't be able to lift him if you can't see him," she explained to her mam. "Take your Nan's hand, little wolf, go on. We'll go see Aunt Brenna now."

"Benna!"

"Our language has been swallowed up by others, most of the others speak a language..." She dipped into english as she did. "English." As there was not a word for it in their language. She slid back into Norse as if that was what she'd spoke the whole time. "The Gods will be the only ones that will understand you easily."

Bryn was tickled by when he hid in her skirt. "Oh! Where did Hródolf go? I cannot see him." She gasped softly. She remembered playing those games with her babies. It made her heart ache in a way that wasn't unpleasant.

"Now we must be quiet. Brenna may be sleeping." Though she hoped some of the noise had roused her youngest daughter.
