Who: Shannon and Loki
Where: Cuban wilderness
What: Powers activate
When: Monday is a day for burning things
Rating: TBD
Open: no
Status: On going

Shannon placed the backpack, full of important things-Water, and plenty of it, sunscreen, a change of clothes- on the ground at the base if a large and beautiful banyon tree. She had the hopes that she wouldn't accidentally set the bag on fire. The positive thoughts would save it.

Shannon had outfitted herself in a pair of well fitted shorts, a top that clung to her like a sports bra would, but it was longer, and a pair of nondescript athletic shoes, all in different shades of green that complemented each other. It was too hot for black. She was ready to conquer the raging powers that had built up inside her. But she wasn't sure now to purposely go about doing that. So she stretched her whole body. Bending forward to touch her toes, squatting, a few lunges.

She knew Loki wasn't impressed with any of them. But she didn't skimp out, she was still mortal, and didn't have any intention to hurt herself because she hadn't been ready. And when her body quit protesting at the straining movements she turned and gave him a bright smile. "Thank you for being patient."

Now that was a question that brought him unease. Vulnerability was nothing he was comfortable with. But what if he was erased for good. Death came easy. Death came unexpected. Thor's last words to him rang clear in his mind.

His gaze had dropped as he mulled his over and fought a battle with himself. He picked at his fingers while the war inside turned towards a strange victory. "I do not mind if you linger for longer," he answered quietly. "My failures are not your fault." A swallow. "I myself am I tyro with these new powers."

Though he dropped his gaze, she watched him, watched as he picked his fingers. She hadn't meant to make him uncomfortable, but she got her answer. A little smile tugged her lips. "Alright, I'll stay, but if I become a bother you must send me away."

Shannon sat down more comfortably than she had before. Her legs folded in a relaxed lotus position. "And I wouldn't say you have failed yet. The first time the rock did move. And you are the great and powerful Loki, God of Mischief and Magic. I'm confident you will master these powers as you have all the others." She couldn't help but hope that gave his ego a bit of a boost.

He relaxed his hand as he became far too aware of the signs he was sending. Whatever sight had inspired such a assurance was not one he wanted to be. Of course, he would master them. He was a Prince of Asgard. He was one of the most powerful sorcerers of his universe. And, yet, his death had put a dent into his confidence.

He stayed quiet and instead focused on his task. Once again, he shut his eyes and concentrated. The grasp on the rock came easier. Instead of pushing it back, he pulled it towards him. The two foot high boulder rushed right through him. The god needed to snuff out his instincts to not jump away.

Before she could quiet it Shannon sucked in a surprised breath, as the rock rushed toward him, only to pass right through. Shannon clapped her hand over her mouth to keep the squawk of surprise as muffled as she could. She hadn't expected that, though she should have. There was no forgetting the man she loved was a ghost.

There was no forgetting that terrible night.

Loki quirked a smile. Good. His eyes flickered towards Shannon at the noise of surprise. He chuckled a low laugh. "Now, there is nothing to worry about. I can hardly die a second time." But he could make sure that his skills would match that of Ebony Maw. It was not only Thanos they needed to defeat.

"I know. But..." Her hand dropped over her heart. She was sure it was going to leap out of her chest. "I'm surprised I didn't cause a mini bonfire." Only people she cared about were able to work up that fear. Especially if there was absolutely nothing she could do to save them.

Shannon rubbed her hands over her face, with a little groan. She'd need to get used to that. She then shook it off. "Sorry."

Another laugh. "In that case... this might be an exercise for the both of us." Mirth glinted in his eyes at the prospect of evoking a reaction that would have the Cuban fire brigade worried.

He closed his eyes again but this time he focused on a tree. It was a small one but bigger than anything he had ever moved before. He frowned in concentration as he aimed to establish a grasp.

Oh she knew that look. He was up to something now. Not that she thought he would put her in danger. She knew he wouldn't. Not intentionally. But she hadn't a clue what he was looking at.

Shannon was sure he was intent on moving something by the frown. Already she could feel the anxiety of not knowing. "I'm preemptively apologizing now." She whispered. So not to break his concentration.

Another chuckle. The tree wavered and shook as roots tried to cling to the earth. He stepped a couple of steps between Shannon and the tree. Invisible while an illusion remained in his old place. He could feel it coming lose but at first did not want to show it.

When he was ready, the illusion vanished and his real image appeared. The tree rushed towards him and at the same time Shannon. It soared right through him and crashed only a few meters next to his lover. Of course, he had known this. Of course, he was in control. Nonetheless, he felt relieve that his plan had not led to any harm.

Shannon only stared wide eyed at the tree that now sat almost close enough she could touch it. "It doesn't work with self preservation. And it would only work the one time without you being solid." She shifted her gaze from the tree to his ethereal presence. "If you were trying to get me to catch it on fire."

Though her heart was hammering in her chest, it hadn't been the adrenaline rush the rock had been. But she didn't budge a hair. More than sure that he wasn't trying to kill her with the tree.

Loki huffed a smile to hide disappointment. "Well, we have to try something else then." He wanted to see her shine. He wanted to see her with the power to burn down an island. She should have the power to protect herself from adverseries so she could succeed where he had failed.

"Let me tell you about a man and a plan... my brother and I will take on one of the most powerful man across all the universes." A twitchy smile and fidgeting hands.

Shannon hated that it didn't work. She was sure once she was able to handle the flame without the emotion attached for now it was fueled by emotion. Which is why she needed to learn to control it.

"Tell me about your plan to take on this powerful man. Why would you do.." She stopped herself from saying foolish, his reasons were probably valid. Her gaze shifted to his hands. "Who is this man?"

Another huff. Another grimaced smile. "Let me show you the why and you will see who he is." With that he stepped towards her. It was a simple tip on the forehead but it brought with it a world of sorrow and pain.

Images, feelings and impressions ran past her of his first encounter with Thanos. The pain he had endured and the pain he was promised. Thanos. The Black Order. No details. Nothing of what he had tried to do for them and to finally get a chance at what he thought he deserved.

Then the scene finally switched to the attack on their ship and he let the whole sequence play out right until the moment where it went black and he was no more.

"Okay-" She was stopped mid reaction, as she had been expecting a show of illusion, but what she got was much harsher. From his point of view. The first bit was confusing, but one thing that wasn't was Thanos. She had a name before she realized it. Thanos and the Black Order. She was only able to get a grip on one thing as those memories flooded past her. Thanos was dangerous.

Then everything seemed to slow down. And she was- no he was- standing among the dead. The feeling that time had come to an end, when he had needed so much more. He couldn't save himself. It was in that moment that she could not hold back her own emotions. And tears ran down her face unchecked. One last deed. Save Thor. Then she felt it. The end. His death.

Shannon felt that sense of loss all over again. And now she knew it's cause. She doubled over her lap and a sound unlike one she'd ever made in her life, the wail of absolute loss, tore from her throat. It went unnoticed by her that everything caught fire in that little clearing. First the grass turned black, then the trees went up like matchsticks. Even the rock he'd pulled at him at first began to burn, as she sobbed.

The sob made Loki flinch away. He had not anticipated a reaction of this sort. He had wanted to make up for the fact that he had not been able to properly scare her the first time. Well, seeing the fire unleashing clearly showed him that he had indeed succeeded. But it did not feel like a victory. All he was left with was a crying mess.

"It's a done deed." He carefully took a step closer. Lips twitching into the attempt of a smile while hands were picking at each other. "There is no need for tears. Nothing can be done about the past."

"It's different... It's different knowing something happened and seeing it all and not being able to do... anything." She tried to get a grip, and with a few deep breaths she was able to calm the sobs to soft hiccups. But she couldn't stop the tears. Shannon looked up at him. Finally noticing the damage she had done. But not taking the time to admire it.

"It hurts so much, no one could save you." Her lips quivered and lay as the threat to the thin hold she had was about to snap. "Can you go solid, please?"

He regretted it now - telling her. She should not have known, should not have felt his pain and seen his weakness. How could he remain a god in her eyes now? But regret had no place here. It could haunt him later.

He was silent. For once the great schemer and charmer was at a loss for words. But he did as she requested. First the skeleton and then layer after layer of dead flesh. A hesitant smile was the only response.

Once he was through knitting his flesh together she stood up and wrapped her arms around his middle. Drawing herself in so that her head rest against his chest. She knew she wouldn't hear the steady beat, that she wouldn't feel the same cool flesh she once had when he lived. But the solid feel of him, it had the reaction she wanted, she began to calm down.

He was real, he was solid, and he was there. He wasn't in some universe where she couldn't reach him. Shannon let out a slow slightly shuddered sigh pass through her lips.

Loki stood there for a moment, not knowing quite what to do. He clenched and unclenched his fist until he finally lay an arm around her shoulder. For all the might that lay within her, she felt fragile in his arms. An urge to sooth overcame him, to undo the damage he had so carelessly inflicted. Something that was usually turned into anger or withdrawal. But not today.

"You know, my existance is much harder to erase now. What can they do to a man whose life has already been taken?"

He would feel the tension flow out of her shoulders the moment his arm draped over her shoulder. The sorrow that she felt ebbing away. He was whole. He was real. Her inner mantra. A little smile even quirked the corners of her lips.

"That's true. And could you imagine his face? I want to see it when he finds you before him." Shannon shifted her face so he could see it, and she could look into his eyes. "Vengeance will be yours. And I will help you attain it." No one treated the man she loved like a ragdoll. He was a god!

That was his little dragoness. Her hunger for vengeance was as strong as his own. "He will not suspect what is coming for him." His grip on her tightened as the sweet image of revenge consumed him. "First we will gather all six stones and then we will start the chase. Every version of him in any universe will be brought down." And he would make damn sure that Thanos would no that his death came by the hands of Loki Odinson.

"I will roast that ridiculous chin from his face. Make him beg for your forgiveness or for his death. Perhaps both." A little stream of smoke curled from her lips, as she bared her teeth at the thought. Though the sight caused the temper to ease a little. Her brows knit together. Of all the things she could do, when her temper got up, smoke came from her.

The smirk on his face stretched. Her eagerness was a pleasing sight. But not only that, her anger also had the desired effect. He cupped her cheek with his right hand and pressed his lips close to the opposite ear. "Stay with that rage, Shannon. Let it fill you. Let it consume you. Let it unlock your power."

A shiver ran down her spine at the feel of his breath against her ear. Building a different fire in her belly. She chuckled softly. "Careful I might light us up like rest of the jungle around us." Oh the anger would never die down. The purple man with the strange chin would get his comeuppance. Especially for trying to take the man she loved. And the only thing that kept him was the man before her was smarter. Was one step faster. Shannon hummed softly.

"Ah, but have you not noticed? Your fire does not burn us." Again, the whisper. Again, his hand pressing against her cheek. His head was bowed down, all so he could get closer. With a slight shift of it, his black hair touched her nose. He wondered if it would burn enemies or if it was restricted to non-living things.
