I don't think I ever got an explanation for the ostriches.

MORGAN STARK

Hey, Squirt. How about those cheeseburgers? I'll even throw in some tots in honor of your dad's made-up holiday today.

I remember getting roped into a few of those. And the paper fortune tellers. I think they've got a few of those online if you get bored enough and need amusement.

The girls at school used to be really into those when I was younger, way too many bad memories.

I had one girl do the paper fortune teller thing, and her prediction was something like you'll have a purple dragon. I don't think she meant I'd play Spyro, though. Mostly I just made the fortune tellers because my desk neighbor couldn't figure out how.

What kind of bad memories, if you don't mind me asking?

You gotta lord your special talents over your neighbors, it's kid 101. There's a purple dragon here, though you don't own her... But close!

Mostly of isolating myself? Them having a good time (that was probably really catty, knowing young girls) and me... just being by myself. Telling myself I didn't need other people.

When you're not built for sports, you gotta have something going for you! And I've not met the dragon properly, but it is close to have a purple dragon here.

The meanest person to yourself can be yourself. It sucks. But, if you ever find yourself wondering what a perfectly crafted paper fortune teller looks like, I'm happy to make one for you. You know, for science or whatever. I won't even lord it over you. Well, not the first one.

I'm still pretty sure she shouldn't look into fortune-telling as a career.

It does. I'm still not always in a good place about it. But I'm trying. Beating myself up about not beating myself up is counterintuitive. Yea? I mean, if it's perfectly crafted, it'd be a shame not to see one while I can.

Last I heard, she was looking into marine biology. So the world is safe from her inaccurate fortunes for now!

Tell me about it. All we can do is try, right? And when that fails, there's always cheesecake. Wouldn't it? I can keep it blank so it won't taunt you with its inaccurate fortunes because I'm definitely not a fortune teller.

Ooh, cheesecake definitely needs to be added to my weekend list. I feel like the trick is just to fill them with small but good fortunes. "You'll avoid burning your mouth on pizza today" or something like that.

If nothing else, your brain will will it into existence. “Today is going to be an awesome day! You got this! :)” “You will meet a cute bodega cat very soon.” “Having a bad day? Cheesecake will make it better. Churros, too.” Get that in your brain so you self fulfill that prophecy.
