I don't begin to understand the traditions surrounding Christmas, but the idea of being kind to other people at this time of year and gift-giving is lovely. I can also appreciate the decorations and lights, which give me a warm feeling inside.

Connor
I think we should put up a tree in our apartment. As you were so taken with the pumpkins I take it you're on board with this?

Morgan
We should do something in New Orleans. What do you think?

Alice
How are you settling in? Are you handling the change of scenery?

Consider it done. I'll deliver them when we get back and help you hang them.

Me neither, Alice. The world is confusing, but it's also fun to learn about. How's school?

Thank you very much.

School is going well. It is very exciting. I have never been to one before and the adults there are very nice.

Did you see a different Kara here? I am very sad that it is not the right Kara, but I want to be happy because it is Brainy's friend.

Anytime, Alice. You need anything, just let me know, you hear?

I'm glad to hear you're enjoying it. Are the kids being good to you too? It has to be a lot to get used to.

I did and that had to hurt. I know this doesn't help that but I've learned to appreciate the people that are here now, rather than to miss the ones that aren't. It's easier said than done, I know, but the more people you meet the more you'll feel at home here.

I don't want to be a bother or anything.

There are a lot of kids there, and I don't really know how to be like them yet, but I'm trying. One girl is sort of mean, she called me weird because I draw a lot of pictures of things.

What if no one likes me?

You could never be a bother, Alice.

Drawing isn't weird. I teach an art class and lots of the kids enjoy drawing. The mean girl is probably jealous she can't do as well as you.

I like you. There will be many, many others who do too, but you have to let them.

This is a strange question, but can I tell my girlfriend about you? About your true nature? She wouldn't tell a soul and I think she might be able to help you fit in.

Can I come to your art class?

I don't know how.

Okay. I would like that.

You'd always be welcome, Alice.

Just by being. You didn't have to do anything to impress Kara or Luther, you were just yourself and that's all any of us can be.

Thank you for trusting me - and her - with this. I'll see what we can do to help.
