I'm curious. How do others celebrate the holidays? They don't have to specifically be earth holidays or the ones that traditionally come around this time of year. Any holiday is included in this. And if you celebrate a holiday from a world other than earth (or a different holiday but you're primarily earth based), what is it, and how do you celebrate it?

[Filtered to Hargreeveses]

Two things.

One: Are any of us doing anything for Thanksgiving? I'm indifferent, but I don't want to be rude if someone planned something.

Two: Vanya should know some basic self-defense. This place is too insane for her not to. It might also help her with her powers. If you'd like to help me teach her, I'd appreciate it. If it's something you'd prefer not to do because you don't want to unintentionally relive days past, I understand.

[Vanya Hargreeves]

You wanted some bullet points on things you missed. I'm going to do my best to be concise. This may mean I leave out details that could detract from the main points.

From what I experienced and/or what I've gleaned, here's what I know about everything leading up to me arriving here.

  • I jumped forwarded in time several times. Eventually, I landed in what I assume was 2019 based on a newspaper I found. I spent decades there. You know this. I talked about it briefly when I returned. The day to day minutiae of surviving in a dead world isn't very exciting. Just know that it was decades, and I spent a lot of my time working to get home.
  • I did find one other clue -- a prosthetic eye with the manufacturing company's name on it.
  • One day, someone appeared out of no where. I won't go into what went through my head. It isn't worth it. But she wasn't there before, and she was clean. And she offered me a way out.
  • The Temps Commission -- an organization tasking itself with the preservation of the timeline through corrections.
  • She called herself The Handler, and she offered me a job. Work for them, help them, and I could leave the desolation around me. Work for them, and, after five years, I could retire to anywhere and any when.
  • I might have been crazy, but I wasn't stupid. I still had my intuition. I knew something wasn't right. It didn't take her informing me that she and her agency wouldn't prevent the apocalypse for me to know it was a Faustian deal.
  • I made it anyway.
  • There's no point in going into the boring details of how you preserve a timeline. All you need to know right now is I did my job, and I did it well, and I bid my time. And then, when the time was right, I came home.
  • The Commission doesn't take kindly to defectors or to people trying to willfully change the timeline. Between Dad's funeral and when I showed up at your apartment, they tracked me down. That's where the blood on my collar came from.
  • I know you wanted me to stay, and I know I shouldn't have snapped at you, but I was running out of time. Eight days to find out who ends the world and prevent it from happening while also trying to prevent yourself from being liquidated by your former employers is a lot, even for me.
  • I went to the prosthesis company. I hit a road block. Turns out they won't just give you information if you ask nicely. Not sure why, but they won't. So I recruited Klaus. He was in the wardrobe when you found me in my room.
  • Klaus can be surprisingly effective. He managed to persuade the head of the company, Lance, to look into the serial number of the eye. But it hadn't been manufactured yet. Time travel problems at their finest.
  • Where the first team failed to handle my defection, another team was employed. Just two. Hazel and Cha-Cha. I got away, but they saw my face.
  • They're the ones who attacked the house. Were you there? I should have been I know Luther and Klaus found me while I was gathering information on that Lance guy, but I didn't go home.
  • Plus side? I had leverage on Lance. Turns out he was making shady black market deals with some of the prosthetics.
  • I confronted Lance the next morning and persuaded him to help me. But when we got to the prosthetic lab, it'd been set on fire. And I was pretty sure it was Hazel and Cha-Cha's doing.
  • I did the only thing I could think of to do; I retreated to the Argyle a library where I proceeded to attempt to solve the problem of the world ending and also solve the mystery of what happens when you when all your clues were up in smoke. Luther and Diego found me passed out and took me to Diego's boiler room.
  • The next morning, only Luther was there. I told him a bit about the apocalypse, the eye, and the Commission.
  • When I got back to the Academy, I stumbled upon Klaus. His story is his to tell or not tell, and I don't know too much about it myself. But I could tell he'd managed to time travel. Hazel and Cha-Cha had taken him from the house, and he'd managed to get away with a briefcase.
  • The Commission uses briefcases to store devices for some of their agents to use for the purpose of time traveling. How else do you preserve the time line if you can't leave your own present?
  • The Commission had protocols, and one of them involved the briefcase. If Klaus had managed to seal it, it meant Hazel and Cha-Cha didn't have it. And they’d be desperate to get it back.
  • Unfortunately, Klaus didn't have it, either.
  • I improvised, writing them a note to meet me to negotiate the return of their briefcase, grabbing a briefcase from the attic.
  • I also worked on a probability map, trying to narrow down who might be the lynch pin. I came up with four names, but I don't know if any of them were correct.
  • Luther didn't approve of my plan to kill four people to save billions. He threatened He black He used his own skills and knowledge to disuade me.
  • So we went with the briefcase plan.
  • Luther and I met Hazel and Cha-Cha, where I had them contact The Handler. Then we waited.
  • I have absolutely, 100% no idea what was going on or why (though I can hazard a guess or two), but Klaus and Diego came down the road in an ice cream truck. I kind of wish I were making this up, but I can't make this up.
  • They barrelled down the road at, I don't know, five miles an hour. Hazel and Cha-Cha pulled out guns to fire at them (and Luther and me).
  • And then everything stopped.
  • There she was, yet again. The Handler.
  • After a short conversation, I accepted another offer from her to work for the Commission, this time in a different position at headquarters.
  • I made sure the others weren't going to get shot before I left with her.
  • I didn't go to the Commission's headquarters with the intent to work, though I did do a little of it to keep up appearances. Mostly I was there to find out about the apocalypse (though I can't say I had no intention of throwing in a monkey wrench or two, which I did).
  • I got a name. Harold Jenkins.
  • I didn't know who he was or how he caused the destruction of the world, but I had a name. I told the others when I returned home about it, and, somehow, convinced them that we had to save the world.
  • Luther and Klaus went off to do... something. I think Luther was seeing if it had anything to do with why he was sent to the moon. I honestly don't know what Klaus was doing. (Again, this may be their stories to tell, even though I've got a few ideas on what happened to Luther.)
  • Allison, Diego, and I went to the police station to find information on Harold Jenkins. Diego had connections there and got his file, and Allison recognized him as your boyfriend.
  • I didn't know anything about him other than the Commission wanted him alive. I didn't know if he kidnapped you or manipulated you or if you two had been dating for years. I just knew that he was the cause of the apocalypse, and I had to stop him, and I had to hope you were safe. I had to believe, one way or another, you would be safe.
  • We went to his house, and we didn't find him. We did, however, find a highly disturbing display in his attic. He had pictures and figures of us with our faces and eyes gouged and burned and disfigured. This was pure derangement, Vanya. There was so much hatred in that room. Did you know For a brief second, I wondered if you hated us that much
  • The chaos and monkey wrenches I mentioned? I might have gotten hurt during that. And I might have gone into shock maybe. I don't remember a lot after that room. Bits and pieces. Diego and Allison trying to figure out what to do with me when we got home. Mom. I might have been delirious at some point. I remember Mom taking care of me.
  • The next day I (with Luther) found out about Klaus summoning Dad, Dad's suicide, his reasoning behind it, how he reprogrammed Mom, where Allison had gone, and that Diego had been in jail. (Who's surprised? No one? Moving on.) (I was a little surprised. Wasn't the answer I was expecting to "where have you been all night?" but I got over it.)
  • I took some time to try to process how Dad could know about the apocalypse before going to find everyone. I found Klaus, then he and I found Diego (wherein he informed us, briefly, about his night in jail -- namely that he'd been in jail). Diego told us about Allison going to Harold Jenkins's cabin in the woods (I really want to discuss your life choices with you. First, you don't have locks on your windows. Then, you go to a cabin in the woods? Without telling anyone? Have you ever seen a horror movie, Vanya?) to find you. So we went to find Luther.
  • He was at a bar.
  • Once we got Luther, we raced to the cabin, where we found Allison. We then took her home, and Mom took care of her.
  • When she was stable, Diego, Klaus, and I went to find you and Harold Jenkins. You weren't at his house. But he was. And the glass eye fit.
  • At the time, I didn't know how he'd died or who or what had caused it. I didn't know where you were. Something felt off, but I couldn't figure it out. I was trying to figure it out, trying to see if you were at the Academy (we couldn't find you). Klaus and I got into a disagreement (I don't want to talk about it), and then I went off to have a drink. Because if the world wasn't ending, that was a cause for celebration. And I didn't want to think for a minute.
  • Hazel showed up. He didn't have you, but he did have something to help with the whole Diego being in jail thing. And he wanted to help save the world. He and I talked, and he made me realize that this could be a second chance of sorts.
  • I took a walk.
  • On that walk I came across a newspaper.
  • The headline hadn't changed. The world was still ending.
  • More pieces clicked into place (with a few more clicking into place later, once you got here), especially when I raced home to see it destroyed. The only destroyed structure on the whole street.
  • The Academy, at least, hadn't fallen to the apocalypse. It'd fallen before the rest of the world.
  • Harold Jenkins was just the catalyst, the fuse; you were the bomb.
  • The Umbrella Academy being destroyed drew attention, so we all scattered, meeting up again at the bowling alley.
  • There was a discussion about what to do and where to find you (your concert), as well as the usual squabbles. (Klaus mentioned Ben saving Diego. I didn't really understand how or what he meant until later.)
  • A message distracted me. A message from The Handler.
  • It was a delay tactic, a divide and conquer scenario. She drew me away while the others went to your concert.
  • You were on stage, all in white except your hair and eyes (they were blue. I don't know why), playing a song to reign in the end of everything. Commission agents were trying to stop us from stopping you.
  • Klaus summoned Ben, and Ben took them out.
  • I don't know how to describe that moment, so I 'm not going to try.
  • With the Commission agents disposed of, we turned to you. We tried to stop you. In the end, Allison did it. She broke your concentration.
  • You had a lot of energy built up, and that energy hit the moon.
  • Pieces of the moon fell to earth, one very large one in particular.
  • I don't know if the others were resolved to die, but I wasn't. I came back to save the world, and I came home to save my family.
  • So I opened up another time portal.
  • And I took you all with me.

  • That's about as short and concise as I can get it right now without leaving out more than I'm already leaving out. I'll do what I can to answer questions, but I can't promise I'll answer everything right away. And you can always ask the others for their perspectives of things. I can say I don't know if I was able to travel back with everyone. I remember leaving the theater, but I ended up here. So, maybe, somehow, some version of me did. And maybe all of us -- including you -- save the world.

    It wasn't enough. I wasn't

How can you be sure? What if the only way is to kill my best friend?

Just because you haven't noticed it happening doesn't mean it hasn't happened. Lots of things happen when we're not looking. Not all of it's bad. Not all of it's riddled with ulterior motives. Sometimes it's just shy. There might been a cashier or a clerk or a waitress or any number of people who saw you, but, for whatever personal reasons of theirs, never said hello. How many people have you spotted, and, for a brief moment, wondered about, before deciding against it? There's a high probability it's happened to you without you ever knowing.

Honestly? Because you are one of the most stubborn people I have ever known. It's one of your best qualities, because it means you don't give up until you get what you want. And if what you want is to save the world, then you'll find a way to do it because you won't settle for anything less than exactly what you want, exactly the way you want it.

Maybe. But I'm not the kind of girl woman that sort of thing happens to. That sounds more like Allison.

I guess that's true enough. Regardless of the results, I did manage to time travel despite what Dad said.

You and Allison give off different airs. As such, you attract different people. That's not a bad thing. But just because you haven't seen it doesn't mean it doesn't happen. why do you think that one barista gives you free espresso shots? And that scone? It certainly wasn't because the people ahead of us decided they didn't want it.

And I knew you'd be able to do it.

They're a nice person? We talked about music a few days before and there's a good chance they might, I don't know... be a friend?

Thank you for your faith in me.

Yes, very possible. Probably very true, really. But doesn't mean they don't also want to get to know you to see if you two are compatible. You're a good person, and people can sense that. And, one day, there will be someone who's just as good as you are, and they'll be worthy of you. There's someone for all of you.

You really think anyone out there is worthy of me? That someone could possibly get on my level?

On a more serious note, maybe. Maybe when my body's a little bit older, there'll be someone who can understand the stranger aspects of time travel and not be completely turned away by an older consciousness in a younger body. Assuming I even want someone.

I think that, when the time is right, a person will come along and you'll be bowled over by them. And nothing- not the time travel thing or the older consciousness in a younger body thing or any of the other eccentricities of your existence- is going to really matter. Because they'll be your Person. And they'll love you despite all of it. Or maybe because of all of it.

You're welcome. It isn't 100% complete. I don't know what the others were doing. I don't know how much of what they did had any impact on everything that happened (at least up until the point where we were all on the same page). I haven't exactly compared notes with anyone. Some things I know from conversation, and some things may have been omitted due to irrelevance to catching you up with things you missed (for instance that Klaus told Luther and me about Dad's revelation over breakfast -- well, coffee. That didn't seem overly important). If you have questions, ask. I'll do what I can to answer, and if I can't for whatever reason, I'll let you know that I can't (either because I don't have the information or because I need time).

You covered the salient points. I have a vague idea of how things went down when I wasn't around.

I was at The Academy when those two attacked. Hazel and Cha-cha. I was upstairs in the library, I just wanted to be close by in case something happened, you know? And I was hoping you'd come home so we could talk some more. But then there was gunfire and shouting and when it stopped I went downstairs and the big one, I don't know which one that is, hit me. I don't remember much after that, he hit me pretty hard and I hit my head when I landed on the coffee table. I remember hearing Luther call me and then they left the room and I hid before they could come back.

But after they left Diego was... Diego. He called me a liability. Allison agreed. I don't know where Luther and Klaus were, but they probably would have agreed too. And I was so... hurt. I was hurt. So I went to Harold's and he let me crash on his sofa.

We don't need to go over it again, I know, but I was so stupid to trust him

I should have been there, and I wasn't. I don't know that things would have been better, but it would have been one more person. Hazel and Cha-Cha are -- were? -- people who make me uncomfortable, to say the least. Hazel is the bigger one. With the blue mask. Cha-Cha has the pink one. I really hope neither of them shows up, but I'd rather have Hazel seemed done with his line of work last I saw him. I think Cha-Cha's still a bit of a company woman.

I can imagine the way in which he said that, or at least I think I can. I can't speak for hem. I don't know their intent behind those words.

Your head -- were you okay?

I don't believe all of his intentions were good, but I'm glad you had somewhere to go after the attack.

Yeah. Diego said I shouldn't have been there. And I'm used to that, I am. He never thinks I should be there- or anywhere he is, really. Allison agreed with that too.

A knot on my forehead where Hazel hit me and a little bit of bleeding- I cut myself on something, maybe the table. I was okay with a little ice.

In hindsight, I wish I had just gone home. But I didn't want to be alone and I couldn't stay there.

I don't think it's bad to ask for clarification if you need or want it, even if a lot has happened. What I want to say doesn't always come out how I mean, and I don't always realize it. Like when I called you ordinary. I didn't mean You don't have to, of course. But sometimes we jump to conclusions. Sometimes people jump to conclusions based on what we said and how they interpreted it when we didn't mean it that way, it just came out wrong. Kind of like the Oxford comma.
