School is on break for Thanksgiving and... baking is not quite chemistry. Something had a horrible chemical reaction in the oven and I followed the recipe exactly.

Maybe I didn't factor in humidity or something? My cookies...are so flat and all melted together.

Yea, I think recipes are written for experts, sometimes. You want the butter as cold as possible to prevent spreading. Also if you "softened" it in the microwave, that'll do it too.

But it told me to soften it to room temp so I let it sit out for hours.

That might have been a little too long. I'm sure Peter will show you the right way. In the meantime, are they still edible? I'm pretty sure even an ugly cookie still tastes good.
