August 9th | Michelle Jones
I don't want to talk about
At least those things are
With all the time traveling and blipping and whatever, I barely know what month it is. August?

So, school. Feels kind of weird to think about something so normal here. I guess it's junior year, take 3?

PETER PARKER

Hey.

TONY STARK
I don't remember if I said it before, but thanks.

My birthday’s tomorrow. More or less. But thanks. I appreciate it.

I don’t need to be

Stupid question you can ignore, but how are you doing?

Oh, right, it's only the 9th. August feels really long for some reason.

Boh.

Yeah it does. But then, we'll blink, and it'll be your birthday.

I set myself up for that.

Okay. Understandable. I'm going to talk (type?). You don't have to respond or anything, Thor didn't. Why did I but I'm just going to ramble about things. Because maybe I need it, and you're not

So everybody loves New York City, and one of the things they think about when they think about New York, besides Broadway and Times Square and Rockefeller Plaza and the shopping and all the other fun but super cliche things to do (in Manhattan because no one seems to understand how boroughs work. As far as anyone is concerned, New York City is Manhattan and the rest of the city is just there for pretty stock photos in tv shows) is Coney Island. So people love Coney Island, and they know it's in Brooklyn because they can Google it. And then it's like, "O.M.G. I've heard of Brooklyn! It's so cute! It's so quaint! It's so up and coming! It's like Manhattan but suits my hipster sensibilities even though hipsters are so passe!"

So you've got these people who are so excited about Brooklyn because it's ~authentic~ and are excited about Coney Island because it's iconic. I'm not going to take that away from Coney Island. I like Coney Island as much as the next person does. It's got the Cyclone and the Carousell ("Why's it spelled wrong?" "Ma'am, it isn't. This is just how it is. Please accept our quirks as we accept your patronage.") and the Wonder Wheel and the Thunderbolt and the defunct parachute jump and all that fun BOARDWALK FLAIR people apparently can't get when they aren't on the East Coast. And that's great! It is. It's cool. It's iconic, and it's cool, and I don't have anything against it.

My favorite part though? The aquarium. It's the oldest continually operating one in the US, and, yeah, it was originally in Manhattan, it's now in Brooklyn -- Brooklyn of all places! Maybe it's a quiet consolation prize for losing a baseball team, even if I don't think losing the Dodgers is a great loss.

When I was little, and I had bad days, my uncle would take me to the aquarium to look at all the marine life. (Long Island has a nice aquarium, too, and, sometimes, we'd go there. I liked the jellyfish there, but this isn't about them right now.) Aquariums, fish tanks, they're very relaxing. Very soothing. So he'd take me there, and it'd help calm me down after a bad day. There's a coral reef tunnel, and I'd find the exact center of it, and I'd just sit there, watching all the fish swim by. I don't think people liked that I took up the floor sometimes, because, sometimes, I'd stretch out. Not on busy days, because he'd warn me not to, and we wouldn't stay there as long, but on slow days, off season days, I would. And think about what it'd be like to have a house made of glass in the middle of a reef.

And then there were the sharks and the rays, and they were so cool. The rays especially. They'd float and zip and it was like they were flying. It just seemed so peaceful and effortless, you know? Minding your business, flying through the water, having a good time of your life. Didn't have to go to school or deal with bullies or any of that. You could just zip around with all that energy and never get in trouble for not being able to sit still or for being too smart. You just got to be you if you were a ray. And it was just really nice to visit the aquarium.

It's random, and it's long, and it's stupid it's probably not relevant to anything, but there you go. Random things. Hope you enjoyed. You don't have to reply. :)

Why are you so

You are such a dork.

Thanks

We can't get to Brooklyn, but there's probably an okay aquarium here.

So if you're calling me Yeah, I've heard.

There might be. We can always look.
