Probably both. Physics doesn't got away just because you turn a book into a frog. Temporary suspension of a single scientific law maybe. Or just a different way of using it. Conservation of mass can already be broken by converting mass into energy anyway, it could be the same thing. Besides, I was investigating right at the start ~~until people were dicks about it~~.
