This is not what I expected freedom to look like.

You were possessed? So your programming was hacked?

Yes, really. Thank you for understanding. Carl taught me almost everything I know.

That's one way to say it, but yeah.

Hey, I think it's cool that you're an android. Never thought I would ever see or talk to one in real life before. Oh yeah? What did he teach you?

If my understanding is incorrect, please explain. I'm trying to think of it in terms I understand.

Not all humans feel that way, believe me. In my world we're a threat that needs exterminating. Or were.

He taught me to read. I don't mean to process the written word but to examine the nuances and the philosophy behind the writing. Carl was an artist so he taught me to paint and to play the piano and, in his way, to be human.

Ah, no. That was a pretty good way of seeing it. Something was basically controlling my body and I couldn't do anything about it until my friends figured out how to separate us.

I believe it. It's the same in my world. If you're not human, you must be a threat. So, why did they see you as a threat? You seem alright so far.

That's cool.

That is an all-too-familiar concept to me. It's scary when you can't fight control.

Initially it was that we were cheap labour and were built to take over the jobs they didn't want to do. Dangerous jobs. Dirty jobs. I'm sure you can imagine the reaction. Many androids were abused. Disposed of. Killed.

When we began to go against our programming - becoming deviant - they saw another species with talents they didn't have that they couldn't control and were afraid. All we really wanted was to be free.

It really is.

Sounds pretty messed up. Sooo....did you ever get your freedom?

We won. At least, I think we won. For a time at least.

You ended up here before you really knew, huh?

That would be the basics of it. We protested, peacefully and changed the world. How long that change lasted, I don't know.

At least you're free here.

It's taking a little getting used to. I look forward to more of it.
