This is not what I expected freedom to look like.

Depends on who you're unfortunate enough to be in my world. But the generalities are the same. Strife, war, fickle peace. And a lot of hostility and aggression.

I'm sorry to hear that. This place ought to be better for you, then.

So, I'm Markus and my experience was being one of the less well-thought-of members of our society. When we were thought of at all, that is. How about you?

I have a good feeling about this place. Can't explain it, but it feels right.

I was taken from my family as a young child and kept in a tower with other mages. This arrangement was meant to keep the general population safe from us, and equally, us safe from them. But I managed to find my own way out.

Freedom tingles, doesn't it?

So because you have skills that threaten humans they put you in prison? Our worlds aren't so dissimilar after all. My people were rounded up and disassembled for much the same reason. I'm glad you escaped.

I hadn't thought of it in those terms, but yes, it really does.

I've since learned that my Circle, as bad as it seemed, wasn't the worst of them. I was rather lucky. And I did not escape; I walked out.

Disassembled Are you implying you're mechanical in nature? Are you like a golem?

I understand. You made a choice, as did I. A choice to live free.

Not a golem, no, but my physical being was created by humans. Not my soul, though, that's mine and mine alone.

I'm still chained

Why do we keep abusing this kind of power I meant no offense, Markus. Do you dream?

No offence was taken. How could it be? You have an image of a created creature from your world and wondered if I fit the same mold.

I... I don't need sleep. When I do it, it's for the pleasure of an experience and the images that come from my imagination... yes, I think I do dream.

Except Shale was a dwarf once and later fabricated into a golem, so I'm afraid my comparison might not have been all that apt.

That would be dreaming. I hope they're pleasant dreams, at least.

That sounds... painful. Was this fabrication mechanical or magical? Your comparison maybe more apt than you think. Kamski had to take something - the seed that was me - and form it into a pleasing shape for Carl. What I was initially and what I became are different concepts and something I've considered a lot.

Sometimes. That's the same for humans, though, isn't it? The images inspire me, to what I can be and what our people could become. Then the reality of what they're suffering crashes in and it haunts me. I have to remind myself that the war is over now.

From what I've come to understand, they were all volunteers and I stopped Branka from, but I'll keep you from the details of the transformation process. Can't happen again, and I'd rather it didn't. People have felt the need to control golems with control rods, and that goes against everything I believe in and that was not how I wanted to end the Blight.

But it was both - the Anvil was mechanical, but the lyrium magical.

We need to dream to process everything that's happened to us. They do serve a purpose.

I would doubt even volunteers would understand what they were offering themselves up for. It must be terrible to be controlled when you understand what it meant to be free.

I don't understand a lot of your language. What is 'Blight' and 'Lyrium'?

We process in many ways, humans and androids alike. Dreams are strange and interesting. A novelty and also an insight into what I see around me.
