The [info]snarry_games have the best Mods in fandom—they've worked so hard for years to give all of us such a supportive environment in which to play—thank you! Also, my heartfelt appreciation to [info]jadzialove for the excellent beta reading, to [info]whitecotton for help with Scottish-izing my Scottish, and to [info]sestra_prior for her assistance with British questions. Team Snitch, thanks for your input, your team spirit, and your love of Snarry. It's been a privilege and honor to cavort with you all and wield my big stick. Lastly, I'd be remiss if I didn't express my appreciation to Rudyard Kipling for his masterpiece, Captains Courageous.

Summary: Belonging and deserving, needing and wanting—desires of the human heart that Severus and Harry must face when they're forced to the little village of Lochdubh to settle a very late codicil of Albus Dumbledore's will.

If SS's voice is anything like AR's, those audiobooks will be best sellers! Nice cameo for Hamish MacBeth, and I'm so glad you allowed our boys their happiness in the end.

I fear I won't do your fic justice with my comment. Remarkable, gorgeous tale. I loved the unhurried pace, the sprinklings of literature drawing the connection between our heroes journeys and that of those other heroes. I adored Severus recording Audiobooks (and yes, I'd like a copy, kthnx) and Mercutio. Poor desperate, spoiled Harry. Spectacular setting in Scotland-fun to try and read what some of the locals were saying. Did not at all expect the twist with Julian but that was well-played as well. Another favorite of yours to add to my comfort list. Excellent work.

I can't really put into words how perfect this fic was. I knew it would be, it is you after all but woah!

There are so many bit that I loved about this fic. Their jobs to start off with, how in character both Harry's and Severus's insecurities are, how the ending was just perfect.

I enjoyed this fic. I can't write a review to eloquently put how much I do love this fic but I do, so thanks!

I always most look forward to the posting of your stories when it is "fest" time--and I am never disappointed. And that trend continues! This story was astonishing....I loved your interpretation of the prompts, most especially the theme of "coming home," in all its literal and figurative meanings, for both Harry and Snape. As usual, the depth of characterizations added such richness to the story. You are truly a master at taking our beloved characters in new and different directions, while maintaining their canon personas(I hope that makes sense). Loved the subtle (and not so subtle) inclusion of the "classics," the mystery element, and Severus and Harry's various occupations. And, after everything it took to get there, the ending was so satisfying. I felt moved, and somehow lifted. Thank you for a wonderful read

What a twist! Love the lessons Snape tried to teach Harry and how constant he was. So very in character and I just adored the 'how to make love' scene. So beautiful.

Loved it, really.

Oh, I loved this fic. :D It's been a while since I had a good long one to sink my teeth into, let alone one with some familiar (and loved!) outside characters. It was also wonderful to see Severus being a kinder, slightly less bitter man, but still be very much in character.

Fantastic job. :)

I could read it forever! It was beautiful! Awesome, I fell in love with Severus, and could almost hear his -or AR's?- voice reading Shakespeare sonnetts... Thank you

This is the first games story I've had a chance to read. And then only because I've been sick today. But yay, finally!

And well done. I liked both your Severus and your Harry. I loved the idea of Harry working with wood and Severus reading books. I'm actually imagining Alan Rickman's voice here, though I don't usually think of him as my Snape. *g*

OMG! This was brilliant. I was almost in tears through many parts and I could feel Severus' anger when he found Harry in that pub. Then I could feel the tenderness as he showed Harry what he deserved. The twist with Julian was inspired and I didn't see the father angle coming. I love any story you write, but this definitely ranks up there in amongst my favorites.

That was a beautifully written story with just the right amount of angst for me. And if this wasn't enough to prove your genius, I've just read your comment above about Adrian Brody - inspired casting!

I absolutely loved this story, just like I knew I would. Harry broke my heart in this - he was so damaged and lost. But I love how you brought everything together for him by giving him a real family in the end. That was quite a surprise for me: I never heard the "James' long lost twin" angle before. I liked it, especially as I had been getting quite worried it would be some weird Harry time travelling thing. And there's no way that could have ended well.

It's a good thing there are no actual audio books produced by Snape, becasue I would never get anything done!

Wonderful job! Thanks for gifting us with such a beautiful, heart-warming story. ♥♥♥

This will probably take me a couple days to finish, because I want to read it when I'm awake enough to appreciate it --

because, just a few pages worth in, it is already Amazing. I absolutely love the way your Severus thinks about/describes/remembers Harry.

I was so excited this morning when I saw that a story you’d written was posted. Seeing your byline guarantees a great story is coming up, as far as I’m concerned. I just finished, and three tissues later I can finally breathe again without gasping. But the occasional tear is still falling. How is it that you just keep getting better as a writer? How is it that you can make these two characters—who I’ve read a million stories about—fresh and heartbreakingly believable?

I’ll be ordering a Hamish MacBeth DVD and a copy of Captains Courageous in the next couple of days. But first I think I’ll e-mail a couple of friends I haven’t seen in a while, maybe try to set up a time to have dinner and chat.

Belonging and deserving, feeling needed and being wanted. That’s what life is all about, isn’t it?

What a wonderful, well-paced, plot-driven story. I loved it! I liked the relationship between Harry and Severus - how they were both searching for where they belonged and the happiness they deserved. It was a painful journey, but I really like that they had time away from each other to develop as people and not pawns (Severus more than Harry). I didn't expect the twist with Julian, but it just added another layer to the story.

I love the fact that you named the cat Mercutio, and the book quotes worked really well. I'd love to have those audiobooks! *g*

I just realized that I read and pimped, but I didn't comment! I am a BAD BAD teammate! (ok, it may have had something to do with staying up all night reading your fic and then going to bed at 4am, or not. Just sayin')

What did I love? Oh, everything!
Harry's rustic rockers and Julian's hand-made boat. I thought it was a lovely way to connect father and son.
You do flangst like no one's business! Several times I had to reach for a tissue or unclench my jaw, or pay attention not to wake my roommate with my laughter and happy sighing. I can always count on you for phenomenal character development and emotional bungee jumps.

Thank you for this. It's an amazing gift to our team, and a real treasure for the Snarry fandom.

I so wanna vote!!!! *pouts*

This is just so WONDERFUL. Spent the entire day reading it and after finishing I just felt so realxed and sated, like I'd eaten a delicious satisfying meal ;) The pace was perfect, Nothing felt rushed. I'm just... I have no words for this. Really. This is going straight to my Best of The Best Snarry Stories List =) Love how your Snape seems to have mellowed over time. And that you didn't once mention the Three-Letter-Word to make us understand how Harry And Severus feel about each other. And... And... Could go on and on and on...

Thank you.

beautiful and moving story! it made me think again about the scenario of snape sending harry away - reopening old wounds, made me question whether these ten years of separation where a needed life experience or whether they were wasted after all. very bittersweet at times, when, even though they more or less know the other person cares, they still are unable to find to each other (harry's honesty I thought would make them work it out quickly, but severus' behaviour ... wah! really frustrating). I'm so relieved this story ended as it did. after getting to know harry and snape over 100 microsoft word pages it would have been a terrible blow if snape had just left.... anyway.. thanks for such a lovely story!!!
