Garan was writing a Transfiguration essay. No, really, he was, and with Nate in the room, nonetheless. He'd been a little more serious about schoolwork this week, given that he'd realized his Potions grade had fallen to an A. That couldn't happen. He had to at least keep an EE. Not only that, but he had also seen his grades slide a little in Astronomy and Transfiguration, too, though they weren't as scary. . . yet. Nate was being quite good about it, but Garan supposed Nate realized how worried he was. His entire future (well, career-wise, at least) depended on an EE on each of his N.E.W.T.s, and he wasn't likely to get that if he was only pulling A-grade work in classes.
But the current topic in Transfiguration was boring. "Ugh, why do I care about animagi? It's not like I want to turn myself into an animal," Garan asked, frustrated. They were covering the theory of how wizards could transform, but Garan didn't care one lick about it. In fact, it was bizarre and offputting that there were people who could do that kind of thing. Something was clearly wrong with them. Garan was still a sheet of parchment short on his essay, too, and he didn't want to think up that much more to write. He'd have to add another point, and all he could think of was to argue against the need for people to learn the skill. He doubted that would impress McGonagall.
