Who: The Doctor and Open.
When: Wednesday Evening.
Where:  A random street in New York City.
What: Arrival.
Rating/Status: PG/Open

As soon as the TARDIS doors shut behind the Doctor, the TARDIS started to dematerialize. The Doctor quickly turned and attempted to bang on the doors before pulling out his sonic screwdriver and flashing it at the almost gone TARDIS. "NO! NO! NO!" The matter was helpless though, the TARDIS was gone with Rory inside it. It seemed that something didn’t want it here, which really made no sense because this was just New York in the 1960s, so what wouldn’t want the TARDIS here? Of course the Doctor didn’t mean for the TARDIS to land now, he just meant to drop Amy off for some personal items that he really didn’t wan to know about.  He got the timing a bit wrong, but still Earth and parking right around the corner from the drug store, what could possibly go wrong?

"Not good, not good at all," the Doctor shook his head. "Right, yeah, the TARDIS, twice, never a good sign."  As soon as Amy stepped out of the TARDIS just a bit ago, the exact same thing happened, but the Doctor was able to get control of her again and went back to get Amy. This time it didn’t look too good, with Rory alone in the TARDIS.

The Doctor quickly pulled out his ear piece and tried calling Rory on the TARDIS, there was nothing. Very not good, this was starting to look very bad. More bad then usual bad, if that could ever happen. He pulled out his ear piece and used his sonic on it, hoping to boost the signal and reach the TARDIS wherever she was. Once again, there was nothing. The Doctor could always reach the TARDIS.

The Doctor slowly turned to look down the dim and abandoned alleyway, one that he soon realized was different then the one he dropped Amy off. The Doctor walked out of the alley and onto the busy New York street. "Right, all of New York and I’ve got a missing girl and TARDIS. Very slim odds of finding either at the moment and not a clue where to start." After being serious for a moment, he broke out with a slight laugh and smile on his face. "Oh this will be fun."

It was a rare night off. Of course, for Linda, "night off" usually meant making a house call. She may had been only a nurse, but Linda's discretion and skill were always welcomed when it came to medical care. And after changing the bandages and talking a little to her patient (who promised to be more careful next time he chased down a mugger), Linda decided to make a quick stop at the hospital to see if any other patients had dropped by. Even as she headed there her mind was already in her special room, dressing wounds and dispening medication.

She was briskly making her way in the middle of the busy street, adjusting her black cape a little against the wind, when she almost bumping into a man. She managed to stop just in the brink of time.

"I'm so sorry!" she said to the man - a tall skinny man wearing a brown tweed jacket. Sometimes, it was hard to walk around the streets without things like this happening and Linda had been already distracted, but she knew it was not polite and if anything, Linda had been raised to be as polite as possible.

The Doctor jumped back just as she stopped, it was a close one, but all was good. He looked down at the girl. "It's okay, really, I wasn't watching, a bit lost right now. I think, maybe, not really lost as more to confused. Confused and lost together in a way." The Doctor shook his head.

He finally took real note of the woman standing in front of her and what she was wearing. "A cape," he looked her over. "Is it Halloween or something? Perhaps heading to a costume party? Love a good costume party." No, the Doctor had a feeling it was something else. Ever since he landed here, he had a strange feeling about this place, something just didn't seem right.

"I know the feeling," Linda said. "This city can be a bit overwhelming at times." She wondered where the man was from. One couldn't deny New York attracted all sorts fo different characters.

She smiled and shook her head at the mention of the cape. "This? Oh, is just part of my uniform." She spread it slightly so he could see the crisp white nurse's outfit beneath. "I'm on my way to work." She frowned slightly at the mention of Halloween. "Not many Halloween parties in the beginning of June, you know?"

"Yeah, a bit overwhelming." Of course for the Doctor it was a bit overwhelming for other reasons.

He looked down at her uniform. "Nurse in a cape..a caped nurse..." He said out loud to himself as he continued to look at her. "June, not the month for Halloween, should've known, it's not chilly out. Yes, well, it could be a costume party somewhere." Of course it wasn't Halloween, how could it be? He was starting to get old at times, forgetting what's right in front of him. If this was New York then it'd be chilly around Halloween, not warm like it was now.

"What sort of work do you do? Are you really a nurse? Never seen a nurse wearing a cape before. Ha!" He laughed. "A caped nurse in New York city, that's a first." This was Earth, he knew that for sure, but still, something just didn't seem right.

Linda was used to the odd comment regarding the uniform. Not many nurses with capes out there. Then again, this was one of the reasons she wore hers. A lot of her off the books work came to her via word of mouth. They all came looking for the young nurse in the black cape.

"Just a regular nurse," she said, mildly amused at the young man's questions. She was used to seeing many odd people around, but this man was certainly something. "I work at the Metropolitan General Hospital." She held out her hand. "My name is Linda Carter."

"A regular nurse with a cape. Haven't heard of that before. What sort of hospital do you work at?" The Doctor just couldn't get past the cape, not that he didn't like it, he actually found it quite fun - a bit of something different. Always could use a bit of spice in life rather then the same old boring things. It's just that was a new thing for Earth.

"Well, Linda Carter, it's nice to meet you. I'm the Doctor," he took her hand in his and shook it.

"One of the many hospitals in New York City," Linda answered, then added again "Metropolitan General. I'm afraid there are not many caped nurses in it, excluding me."

"Nice to meet you too, Doctor," she said, frowning slightly. "I'm afraid I didn't catch your last name?"

"Right, nurse in hospital with cape. Why do you wear the cape then? Bit strange if none of the other nurses are wearing it, don't you think?" The Doctor was really just trying to figure her out.

"Just the Doctor." He nodded.

"Maybe I like standing out," Linda replied. "It's just a quirk of mine."

"Just the Doctor," she repated. "And what's your specialty, Doctor?" Against her best judgement, she was curious about this odd man, a welcomed distraction to her hectic life.

"Nothing wrong with standing out! Quite like to stand out myself, sometimes at least, depends really on where and when though. Just as long as I'm not trying to hide from someone or something. Any particular reason you like to stand out?" It was a valid question he felt, sometimes poeple wanted to stand out for reasons. Sometimes whatever that reason was, could tell a lot about a person.

"Yep, just the Doctor, hello!" He smiled. "Everything!" He beamed. "Do I have to have a specialty? Find that rather boring."

Linda couldn't stop smiling. She was sure this man had no trouble standing in a crowd.

"I just like my patients to be able to find me," she said. "I specialize in unusual types of injuries."

"Oh, a Jack of all Trades!" she exclaimed. "You should drop by the hospital sometime. We could use a little extra help from time to time."

"Unusual? What sort of unusual injuries?" The Doctor wondered what they might consider unusual during this time.

"Exactly that!" He exclaimed back. "Could do that, don't see why not." He wasn't really a medical doctor at all, but he was sure there would be something he could help with. Besides, he needed to poke his head around the city to try and figure out what happened.

"Maybe I should go with you now."

Linda shrugged. "Just the kind that need a little extra attention." She could have said they were the kind most people didn't want to show to more conventional Doctors, but she feared she might get the wrong idea.

"Right now? To the hospital?" Linda frowned a little but then reasoned it could be a good idea. If anything she could see theDoctor interact in a more stable enviroment. "Sure, why not?"

"Ah, yes, a little extra attention, calls for someone like you." He smiled. "Must be good they have you around then."

"Great! Off we go then!" He waited for her to lead the way. "Any unusual sort of things happening lately? Or, any unusual people coming in?" Going to the hospital might not help him in any way, but the fact that sick and hurt people went there, might tell him something. Depending on what was at work here and who else might be effected.
