Who: Amy Pond and OTA
Where: An alleyway, near Bryant Park
When: Wednesday evening
What: Left behind
Rating: TBD
Open?: Yes

At first, Amy was furious. She’d asked the Doctor to stop on Earth so she could purchase some ...ahem... womanly supplies. What he hadn’t told her was that he was stopping on Earth in 1964— New York City to be precise. He also didn’t warn her that it would be raining. Her leather boots were going to be ruined now. And she liked those boots; they were a Christmas present from Rory. And then, he’d just left her here. In the rain. On her own. She reasoned with herself that he was probably working to fix it and would be back in a mo’, so she ran her errand, still fuming slightly.

Then, Amy got scared. She’d returned from the drug store, brown paper bag in hand, only to find that the alley where the TARDIS had landed still empty. She pulled out her phone and tried Rory’s speed dial, but of course there are no cell phone towers in 1964, so that was a no-go. She was stranded, with no means of reaching her husband or the Doctor.

Amy’s emotions cycled through several more stages. There was confusion, denial (“Maybe if I wait here they’ll come back”), then finally a calm acceptance. She was shivering from the cold and the rain, and as the sun went down she knew she oughtn’t stay out much longer. “Find someplace warm for the night,” she told herself. “We’ll come back here in the morning.” She left the alley and walked past the drug store to the main road. Walking down the busy street, shivering with cold, Amy took deep breaths and tried to think why the Doctor would have left without her. Suddenly, she noticed the rain had stopped. Or rather, she was standing under an awning. Turning to look up she saw that she stood in front of a large brick hotel.

Thinking only of room service and a hot bath, Amy rushed inside, not looking where she was going. As is wont to happen when running blindly, she was stopped short when she crashed into someone very tall and strong. As she fell awkwardly backwards, the damp paper bag finally tore and spilled its embarrassing contents all over the lobby floor.

Amy busied herself with laying out her clothes on the radiator. Anything to avoid looking out the window at the oppressive rain. When Locke spoke, she had to stop and think about how to answer.

"Well, sort of," she began. "Once before the TARDIS took off, leaving the Doctor behind and me inside it. Difference between then and now, though, is that he could talk to me and help me through it." Amy glanced over at the dresser where she'd placed her now useless cell phone. "I can't get hold of him, so I can only hope he's working on it from his end."

With a sigh, Amy sat on the corner of the bed opposite Locke. "How about you? Often have your chocobos run out on ya?"

"Only when there's this wild beast attacking us," Locke snorted as he let his socks hang by the foot of the bed before he stripped his vest off him. He didn't even think beforehand that he was doing this before a woman. He'd always done this in front of everyone. "Usually, that means that we-- or I'll have to go by foot. I can do that, actually. But something worries me." he slouched as he rested his arms on his thighs.

Then tugging his bandana off to set his tousled hair free, he said, "I've never heard of this place before, y'know? And you've never heard of the places I've been to either. And the money that's used here? Doh-larr or something?" he turned to look at Amy, "I don't know that. All my life, I've always paid with gil."

He sighed as he looked at his feet, "On top of that, there's absolutely no item shop, no weapons shop or relics or armor shop...it's like I know where I am but I don't know where I am." Then wincing, he scratched his head, "And for an adventurer, that's unnerving."

The sight of Locke so casually getting undressed surprised Amy at first, and it was a moment or two or five before she caught herself staring. Only when he turned to her did she regain the common sense to look elsewhere. Married woman. Married woman, she reminded herself.

As Locke went on, however, Amy turned to face him again. His words just cemented what she'd already learned-- he was a fish so very far out of water. Not only did his home sound like a different place, with alien cities and creatures, but it sounded like a totally different way of life.

"You're really an adventurer, then?" Amy asked him. "I mean, I guess you could say I've been on some adventures, but what you're talkin' about sounds like some fantasy." More and more it was sounding like getting Locke home would require the Doctor's help.

Amy leaned forward on the bed and placed a hand on Locke's shoulder in what she hoped was a reassuring way. "I know it's hard right now, but let's just get some sleep and take things one step at a time." Making sure she had his attention, she continued, "I'm here, and I'll help you through this, I promise."

With that, she got up off the bed, crossed to the armchair in the opposite corner of the room, and curled up in it, trying to make herself comfortable. More than just a show to put Locke's mind at ease, Amy found that she really was exhausted. She smiled at Locke and bid him goodnight before closing her eyes and beginning to drift off.

"Sure, I am!" Locke beamed at Amy. He'd always been quite proud of his career and he made sure everyone knew of it. Scratching his head, he said, "It's funny how you think it's fantasy but...for me, it isn't. For me it's a way of life. Maybe like...the things you and Doctor do. That sounds really out there for me but you talk about like it's just eating cheese, y'know?

"Kinda like you, I go to new places to explore, and most of the time, you don't know what creeps lay out there so you gotta be ready for them." He paused for a beat. "I...guess if I put it that way, this whole getting lost in a city shouldn't be new to me. But that's not the case now..."

Locke wouldn't be caught admitting it, not with a wide smile on his face, but he was a little frightened and he knew it was alone. Amy's touch was much appreciated, and he thanked her for her promise. Maybe she really could get him home. Or at least just show him the way back.

"N, no really, you can take the bed, y'know?" Locke said to her and made sure he didn't add "I'm a man, I can take care of myself" because the last time he did that, the women he was with didn't look very happy and they could fry people in a single glare. "Amy, really," he said to her but before he knew it, she was fast asleep in the arm chair. He snorted softly. "Well, don't blame me if you wake up strained..." he muttered to himself.

He glanced at the window to see that the rain had let up a little, but it was still persistent. Sighing quietly, he got up and padded soundlessly towards the bathroom. Might as well get a little cleaned before he went to bed...
