After her shift ended at the library, Grace's plans had been to pick up Chloe and drive home to slip some chicken nuggets and French fries into the oven for dinner. She loved to cook and feed her daughter healthy meals, but there were some evenings after work when Grace was feeling... well, lazy and tired, and she didn't want to be on her feet anymore than necessary after spending several hours on them at work. But Chloe apparently had other plans, because once she was in Grace's car, she proceeded to beg and plead to eat at the diner for dinner. Any other night Grace might have protested, but since she had planned on phoning it in for dinner anyway, she agreed. And honestly, she did love the diner food and being waited on sounded even better.
So she and Chloe enjoyed their dinner at Burgatory - Chloe with her burger and onion rings, and Grace with the fish special. As they were finishing up their meal, Grace rather impulsively ordered a few burgers and extra sides of fries to go. She knew that Mila was back home - news that had prompted Chloe to squeal with excitement and bounce around in her chair - so Grace wasn't entirely sure that Noah was even working, or would be hungry. But the station was right down the street and it was a beautiful evening for a short walk, so Grace supposed she would find out once she was there. It had been a habit Grace had grown into when they were married, bringing everyone at the station food, whether take out or something she made herself. Even after the divorce, Grace hadn't been able to stop. She and Noah were on good terms, and she liked his deputies and staff, so she saw no reason not to pop in and say hello.
After the bill was paid, she and Chloe left the diner and began the short walk down the street toward the station, both of their hands full of take out bags. She was stuffed from dinner, but the aroma of fresh burgers smelled heavenly. Grace got the front door to the station open for Chloe to enter first, and she gave a cursory glance around before spotting Marco. "Hey," she greeted with a smile. "We come bearing dinner, if you're hungry."
