It was a small wonder that Gavin stayed in Point Pleasant. Sure, his whole family was there and he honestly wouldn't know where else to go, but he kind of hated the town. You could call it a love-hate relationship, really. There were places he hated more than others and one of them happened to be near by his home, right where he had to walk when he went to the beach. Which wouldn't be a problem if Max didn't love the damn beach and there weren't a lot of things that made that dog happy.

That particular place he hated wasn't a landmark at all. It was just a tree on a corner of a street, easily confused with any other tree on any corner of any street. But Gavin always remembered this one because this was where he'd seen the dark man. Sure, a lot of people laughed it off as a myth but Gavin knew what he'd seen and no, he hadn't been high at the time. He knew people would tell him he was definitely high or crazy or stupidly superstitious so he didn't talk about it but that short encounter had chilled him to the bone and made his ongoing nightmares even worse.

He still cringed when he past it, which ever after that night sixteen years ago he did on the other side of the street. Tonight was no different. It was a bit calming to have the dogs. Max was the biggest coward he'd ever met so the dog would certainly start whining or trying to run away if he sensed anything was off. Rude was aggressive and would doubtlessly try to attack if something threatened him. Gavin knew it'd be a bit of a conundrum dealing with both of them at the same time if anything ever set Rude off while Max was trying to flee but that was very much a later time - and hopefully a never-time - problem. Right now both dogs were happy because they knew where they were going and they loved that damn beach.

Gavin didn't let his own fear show. He'd gotten pretty good at smothering his feelings throughout the years and whatever nervous energy he was giving off was by now a constant that his dogs were used to. He still walked a little faster in this location and rounded the corner with the dogs at his sides.
