As the sun set on the night of the winter solstice, the Castell's house on Ludlow lit up like a circus both inside and out. Lights lined the exterior of the house in reds, white, and lime green-- an over the top Christmas display for one night only, inspired by How the Grinch Stole Christmas, but nothing overtly magical.
Inside was another story, but only those invited to the Castell's Christmas party were privy to the glamour used within. Furniture was converted to match the theme, making it appear that the entire house had come straight out of the cartoon. A gingerbread house stood in the center of the dining room table, dripping with icing and sweets and surrounded by sugar cookies. Mulled wine was available in abundance, but there was also beer and other liquor in smaller quantities. It was impossible not to feel the holiday cheer just from stepping inside and it was almost a guarantee that one of the Castell twins would be talked into playing the piano before the end of the night so that everyone could drunkenly sing whatever carol came to mind. Tonight they would celebrate-- maybe not Christmas specifically, but the season in general.
