The hours that had passed since they had first arrived seemed like days to him. Since the incident at the concession stands, he felt a sort of numbness he had been able to ignore for quite some time now. It was the last night of the festival and he wasn't sure if he was happy about the fact or not. The truth of it was, he had a terrible time being away from Sirius, but, at the moment, it was almost as wearing to be close to him with the things he was keeping to himself. His mind was torn between the two options he had considering the matter: he either told Sirius how he felt, or he kept it locked away as he had been all this time. It wasn't an easy decision and one he felt shouldn't be made just now, not with how things were.

He sat just outside the tent James and Sirius had set up, his face hidden in the one book he had managed to get his hands on before James hid them all. It was a distraction, if nothing else, though it was hard to get his mind to focus on much. The previous night had managed to go off with little drunken maddness, to his relief, but he was sure James and Sirius wouldn't let that be the case for this night. He wondered what brilliant excuse they would give him for why he should drink with them this time, it had yet to work on him. If only Sirius realized the effect he had upon him, they might win that argument one day if he ever did.

He could hear the all but hushed sounds of James and Lily arguing somewhere in the depths of the huge tent, no doubt James still couldn't keep his mouth shut. He sighed, closing the book and leaning back into the grass, his eyes on the darkening sky above. Hopefully, James would live through the night and he could make it till morning without going completely mental. He closed his eyes, letting the evening cool settle aorund him. Let the others do what they would, he was more than content right here where he was.

Now that just wasn't fair. Sirius knew that he couldn't say no to that look, not easliy anyway. It was easier to hold his own with James and Peter on the watch as well, he could say no to the three of them quite easily, but now, with it being just the two of them, he was cracking. It was true though, what were the chances of them having this sort of opportunity again? He couldn't cave that easily though.

"I don't know," he shook his head just slightly, making a failed attempt at taking his gaze from Sirius. He was going to argue his usual case, that he could have fun without getting plastered with the rest of them, slipping easily into his lecture about over drinking at their age, but it didn't come as it usually did, so automatically, not with Sirius looking at him like that, his hand at his arm...he was cracking.

"Alright, alright," he sighed, unable to keep from smiling in spite of himself. "If it will keep you and James off my back all night," he added, though he could care less what James wanted him to do most of the time. He didn't want to ruin Sirius' fun, not tonight. What was the worst that could happen? With Sirius there he knew nothing could go terribly wrong.

Had there even been a more exciting three days in James Potter's life? If you asked him the answer would be hell no! The days they had spent here had been nothing short of a blast. Food and drink a plenty, rockin' music, and more opportunities for mischief than he knew what to do with! Better than that, Evans was staying in his tent. Not that it was necessarily by choice, but it was still fun to say. Thanks to a little mix up Lily had, she was stuck having to deal with him. Sure, they argued more often than not, but was that really out of the norm?

In the middle of one such argument, James decided it was enough. "Ok, ok, geeze," he rolled his eyes, nearly running smack into Sirius and Remus standing outside the tent. "Pads! Where have you been off to, you dog?" He winked, giving him a brotherly sort of punch in the arm. "I wouldn't go in there if I were you," he jerked his head back toward the tent, "She's a bit touchy, that one," he grinned, spying the bottles in Sirius' hands. "You're a saint!" He snatched up one of the bottles, looking it over. They had a nice stockpile now, tonight would be awesome.

Being the amazing friend that he was, he of course had noticed how odd the two had been acting the last couple of days, but had he said a word? No. He'd pester them about it sometime, but in James' head now wasn't the time to bother with it. He chalked Sirius' absences with the young ladies as overactive hormones and Remus' withdrawness as...Remus being, well, Remus. Speaking of which....

"Hey, I thought I hid those all from you!" With his free hand he snatched the book away, tossing it over his shoulder back into the tent. "Gents, tonight will be one to remember!" Sort of. "I won't have any of my mates spending it with a book! Now, where's Mr. Cheeseface?"

"Where have I been?" Sirius repeated in a fuzzy sort of voice, but not because of any aftereffects of his spill and subsequent headbanging, but rather I would say from the immediate effects of Remus Lupin, although he did not quite realize that, and it wasn't exactly obvious to anyone, at least not yet. He looked from James to the tent, his friend's words sinking in. "Oh, you pissed off Evans again, did you?" he chuckled. "Probably safer to stay out here then, give her some space. He tried to make a grab for Remus' book when James snatched it, but his coordination was off and his fingers closed on empty air. "Hey! That's Rem's!" he protested, but to no avail.

He put an arm about Remus' shoulder. "Sorry, mate," he said, "I'll get it back for you later. How about we drown our sorrows for right now? I'll make it up to you, I will?" And his face wore a look of supreme confidence in his ability to do so. "LET THE PARTY BEGIN!" he whooped optimistically, confident that Remus would not, could not and should not turn him down.

The protest on James stealing his book never came, his focus was still on Sirius despite James' interruption. "Isn't that what he's good at?" He teased absently, eyeying Sirius curiously for another moment before finally turning to James - Sirius must have hit his head pretty hard or else he was missing something. "If you ever expect her to tolerate your presence enough to go on a date with you, you really need to stop making her so mad. She might actually like you if you didn't contradict her all the time," he pointed out for probably the millionth time to the thick headed boy.

"It's not a big deal," he shook his head and smiled, patting Sirius' arm. "And how do you intend on doing that?" He asked with a quirked brow, his curiosity definetly piqued now.

Peter was having the time of his life listening to rocking tunes, loose women we're toppling over and on display, one was so drunk she actually started flirting with him, and don't get him started on the food. Of course Peter ran out of the things he brought a long with him and he spent most of the day wasting his money on baked cheesy goodness, something like a pretzel but it was jumbo sized!

After successfully having his fill for the moment, and getting some extra stuff for later tonight, he headed back to the tent location. He stumbled around so much he could have easily passed for being drunk right then. But he hadn't even started yet and he hoped the guys didn't start with out him either.

He heard a joyful shout he distinctively thought was Sirius about the party starting and he rushed a bit quicker to their location, "Hey you guys started the party without me?" he asked.

"Speak of the devil!" James grinned widely and slung an arm over Peter's shoulders, pressing the bottle he'd commandeered from Sirius into his hands. "You're just in time for the festivities to begin, my friend." He glanced around at all his mates, grinning like a madman. "Tonight we make our mark, gents. Everyone will know that the Marauders were here." Yes, that was a promise...quite possibly a small threat.

James took up another bottle and popped it open. Now was time for the party to begin.

Sirius deftly opened a third bottle, this one was a rich red in colour and sparkled as he raised it to his lips and greedily suckled from it before thrusting it into Remus' hands, not intending to take no for an answer. His eyes seemed to almost bed Remus to go along, to please have some fun, for who knew when this sort of occasion would present itself again. He caught himself holding his breath as his best mate took the proferred bottle, waiting to see what he would do.

Remus took the bottle, staring at it for a long moment. He had his options, as always. He could refuse, as usual, but that would get Sirius' spirits down. Or, he could partake and enjoy himself with the rest of his mates. Both decisions had their pros and their cons, but nothing could outweigh making Sirius happy, not for him. With Sirius close by, it couldn't possibly be that bad.

Putting on a smile, Remus looked over at Sirius and brought the bottle to his lips. "Cheers," he muttered, tipping the bottle back and taking a long drink. He could afford one night of typical teenage recklessness.

"Brilliant!" he said cheery when his friends reassured him that he hasn't missed much. Peter took the offered bottle and gulped it down, after eating so much he was thirsty, but then he winced forgetting just what that bottle contained and he succeeded in drinking it all down. Just in time to watch a monumental experience. Sirius offered Remus a drink, not unusual. Remus accepting the bottle, unusual. Remus drinking from the bottle, shocking! Peter smiled comforting at his friend.

"At a boy, Remus," he cracked, "Now let's party!"

James' jaw dropped at what he had just seen. Did that really happen? Did Remus Lupin, notorious goodytwoshoes, just take a drink? He blinked a few times before grinning widely. "Padfoot, you're some kind of genius!" He clapped Sirius on the shoulder and then Remus and leaned against the two. "Now gents is the time to eat, drink, and be merry!"

The party was really about to get started, now that Remus had joined the Dark Side. James knocked back a swig of the bottle in his hand and removed his wand from his pocket, sending multicolored sparks into the air. Lily would probably come running out of the tent screeching at him about being loud, but he didn't care.

"Now, where to start where to start...."

This was going to be a party to remember! A jubilant Sirius took the bottle back from Remus, knocked it back and took a long healthy drink. He felt the liquid fire flowing through his very veins, lighting up his very soul. He was aglow with camaraderie, with love and devotion for his friends, and for brotherhood of the highest order. Who knew when such an occasion would rise again? In fact, they were rapidly approaching what might be the end of their time together, once they left Hogwarts. Sirius pushed that thought aside for now, it was time to focus on the here and now, the present, not the future.

Although a future without his friends was totally inconceivable. And completely tragic.

"Hey, I have an idea!" he cried, wiping his lips with the back of his hand, as a thought came to his mind. "We need to liven this place up a bit! How about some streaking?"

The bottle left his hands without a bit of resistance on his part. He was just as well simply being with his friends free from so many prying adult eyes, free of rules and schedules and all the things that school would bring them soon enough. Tonight was their last opportunity for anything like this, for it was true; who knew when they would have this opportunity again? He could set aside all his inhibitions, if just for one night.

But, Sirius' sudden idea made him turn scarlet. That thought was terrifying for more than one reason. "You can, um, count me out," he said slowly, shaking his head, though he kept his smile in place.

He wanted to have fun but not that sort of fun. The very thought picked uncomfortably at not only his brain, but his emotions as well.

James grinned widely at the proposal, setting the bottle in his hand aside. "You're on a roll tonight, Pads. First you get Moonboy to drink and now streaking? Keep it up and this will be a night to remember!" James kicked off his shoes and pushed them near the tent and his shirt followed. "I'll tell you now I will hex the bollocks out of anyone who thinks it will be funny to steal those," he gesutred to his clothing, waiting for the others to follow...expect Remus, of course. What a stick in the mud.

"Shall we then?"

Liquor was flowing through his veins, and not an iota of common sense through his head. Sirius giggled as he rose unsteadily to his feet, and began to strip, tossing his clothes in the direction of one Remus Lupin. And was he actually showing off for him subconsciously, maybe turning toward him, as if he wished the other boy to see what he could have if he only......

Or perhaps I am projecting....

Be that as it may, he laughingly tossed his clothes at Remus until he was clad only in his birthday suit, his dark hair falling drunkenly across his face.

It might have been a good thing that the bottle was taken from him because in that moment it would have shattered from him dropping it. James stripping was bad enough, he hadn't thought this was serious - he should have know better - but Sirius, right there, in front of him in nothing. He couldn't take his eyes off him. It wasn't as if he hadn't seen it before, but it didn't make it any less of a shock or any less of a twinge on his heart. He caught the clothes, looking up at Sirius with wide eyes.

"You light weight." James smirked and pushed Sirius' shoulder lightly, just to see if he'd fall over. All for the laugh, of course and he would help him up...maybe? Ha. Probably. James shirked off what remained of his own clothing and threw them in front of the tent. "Where shall we wreak havoc first, mates?" Excpet Remus. Stick in the mud.

Sirius only giggled in response - he might be drinking but he was certainly no lightweight. "Don't touch the merchandise, mate," he smirked, turning to Remus and giving him a broad wink, for whatever purpose, then turning to Peter to see if he were coming.

Where to go first? That was the question? "How about near the stage?" Sirius suggested, for maximum exposure - although how he could be any more exposed is beyond me. "Or, I know, we can run through the sleeping area," he suggested, looking from one boy to the other to see what they thought of his ideas.
