The hours that had passed since they had first arrived seemed like days to him. Since the incident at the concession stands, he felt a sort of numbness he had been able to ignore for quite some time now. It was the last night of the festival and he wasn't sure if he was happy about the fact or not. The truth of it was, he had a terrible time being away from Sirius, but, at the moment, it was almost as wearing to be close to him with the things he was keeping to himself. His mind was torn between the two options he had considering the matter: he either told Sirius how he felt, or he kept it locked away as he had been all this time. It wasn't an easy decision and one he felt shouldn't be made just now, not with how things were.

He sat just outside the tent James and Sirius had set up, his face hidden in the one book he had managed to get his hands on before James hid them all. It was a distraction, if nothing else, though it was hard to get his mind to focus on much. The previous night had managed to go off with little drunken maddness, to his relief, but he was sure James and Sirius wouldn't let that be the case for this night. He wondered what brilliant excuse they would give him for why he should drink with them this time, it had yet to work on him. If only Sirius realized the effect he had upon him, they might win that argument one day if he ever did.

He could hear the all but hushed sounds of James and Lily arguing somewhere in the depths of the huge tent, no doubt James still couldn't keep his mouth shut. He sighed, closing the book and leaning back into the grass, his eyes on the darkening sky above. Hopefully, James would live through the night and he could make it till morning without going completely mental. He closed his eyes, letting the evening cool settle aorund him. Let the others do what they would, he was more than content right here where he was.
