Team up with old friends.
The Best of DC - Blue Ribbon Digest #18 (1981) is a 100 pages-comic full of Teen Titans stories and offers a nice little short story, in which the New Teen Titans team up with their old friends Speedy and Aqualad.
Together they go up against some drug smuggler... maybe not as mind-blowing as battling against gods, Brother Blood or Deathstroke, but hey, it's a team up with a classic 1980's 'Don't Do Drugs'-lesson.
Gar is a bit busy, though...

The story starts with Speedy, who for some reason is sinking in the sea, gets rescued by Aqualad and carried to the Titans Tower...

Fighting of course!

And since Roy's drug background is mentioned here, I just had to include this GL/GA cover:

Now here comes the big question: this Best of DC issue also has a Teen Titans story that (judging from clothes and costumes) plays slightly before the NTT were founded and goes by the cracktastic title "Skis of Death!" Are you interested in a short break from the NTT to see this story or do you prefer me to post more random NTT stuff?

I love how Speedy's hat stays mostly on in the water. He must have it bobby pinned really well at the front.

Also how Starfire, because she's an alien, can be completely clueless about why people would do things that are bad for them. It's like your clothes, Kory. They're awful, and yet you still wear them.

In that one panel where Starfire and WG are flying Kory's hair is HUGE. It makes her look like Gossamer.

Speedy on that GA/GL cover always looks like he ought to be in an EC comic. Like he's been caught munching on dead bodies or something.

The reason he's making that face is because in addition to his arm, he injected "junk" into his dick.

Especially considering that it's clearly falling totally off his head while he's... getting knocked out with a flying handle-first machete. I wonder if the guy with the machete practiced that move, just him and his machete and the target on the wall, while his friends tried to convince him to at least try the throwing knives, dude, seriously.

Not a Mod, but the guidelines do say;

"In regards to anthologies, graphic novels, manga and pamphlets with backup stories, do not exceed 1/3 of the total page count of individual stories."

So, sorry, but posting 12 pages of a 12 page story is still breaking the rules, even if it's a 100 page issue.

Oops. Somehow I had in my mind it'd depend on the total page count.
Thanks for pointing that out, I corrected the post. :)

"Skis of Death" was published in the mid-70's at the very latest. (I think the copy I have was actually a reprint.) I'm not sure where it was supposed to fit in contituity-wise.

Nope, "Skis of Death" is "Teen Titans #24" from December 1969, and is a VERY 1960's story.

The GL/GA crossover was such a letdown. More lulz than moral. Just file it under the old 'drugs don't work that way' tag.

Do they ever work any way other than "that way" in popular culture?

I mean, IRL, how many people really go straight from smoking a joint to mainlining dope twice a day because it's all the same thing anyway...?

I'd certainly be interested - I'm a big fan of the original Teen Titans.

Yeah, whatever, Speedy--have you seen Starfire's eyes? On Tamaran they probably have opium dens on every corner.
