For the record, I think the idea is that they actually ARE a reasonably secure facility, by normal standards - you certainly hear enough about fancy new security procedures they're trying out - it's just that they happen to deal with insane geniuses like the Joker and company, for whom 'reasonably secure' translates to 'revolving door'. It's not about how incompetent THEY are, it's about how the Joker manages to escape on a regular basis DESPITE their relative competence.

I'm still undecided on the death penalty in the real world, but I know that they really fucking need it in DC

They've got it in the DCU, they have it in Gotham City. The Joker keeps skipping it because he is legally insane, which he actually isn't but there you go.

He is also suppose to have some of the best legal defense on earth, and I can understand.

"We keep the State from killing the Joker; imagine what we can do for you."

And why is that an excuse? When you have an incurably rabid dog, you put him down before he hurts anyone else.

In Garth Ennis' words:

The hell with him.

Ooooh, that is some pretty art. I like it.

I also like that this new Arkham guy seems to take his job seriously, and actually acknowledges Arkham's status as a revolving door prison!

Yeah, yeah, I know that Status Quo is God and Arkham will still be a revolving door prison after this story, but it's still a nice sentiment

This might minor **SPOILER** things if you haven't played the game (and I'm only part-way through myself), but...

...Warden Sharp is only concerned about Arkham's reputation because he's running for mayor. Having people constantly escape his prison makes him look bad.

So this is the start of that "Batman vs EVERYONE and wins: The Game"? And I thought Spiderman 3 ruined the 'four villains at a time' concept.

To be fair, the game presents it all in a very plausible way. None of the villains are working together, and Batman only faces them one at a time, never two or three on one.

Such a good game and a pretty solid Bat-story too!

Two weird things:
1. Joker was sloppy with the lipstick today!
2. So we only see Babs from behind?

We see her face a couple times. No handles on the chair, either, and she's even sort of competent, helping Bruce puzzle through the pattern of the night's weirdness.

Harley's in that utterly obscene and unclassy wtfever outfit from the promos, though. Win some lose some. ^^

From what I've seen (probably won't get it until I get a next-gen console, hopefully by Christmas), the only Arkham we hear of is Ardemus from Morrison's AA.

Huh, I'd heard that the game was based on the comic of the same name, but this comic makes it seem otherwise, like it's more in line with the current DCU.

I'm not much of a fan of this look for the Joker - the 'too much jam on the toast'-style lips are extremely unflattering, as is the vaguely '70's outfit he's wearing - but I like the gag about the clown cars and the handicapped parcing spaces.
