How Bruce Met Zatanna, plus the casting of the upcoming Going Postal adaption

Oh look, that dick Hush had a cameo. Presumably he was plotting to report Alfred to Immigration Services or something at the time but he was distracted by the bright colours.

Based on the Discworld novel of the same name, the story revolves around former con-man Moist von Lipwig. He is saved from the gallows by the ruler of the City of Ankh-Morpork to use his skills to reform the city's Post Office, but he has to deal with various corrupt dangerous businessmen and their hired killers along the way.

And it's got Coupling's Richard Coyle as Moist Von Lipwig,

David Suchet as Reacher Gilt

Claire Foy as Adora Belle Dearheart

Andrew Sachs (aka Manuel from Fawlty Towers) as Groat

Tamsin Greig as Miss Cripslock (the lady reporter from the Truth, though that hasn't been adapted yet)

Charles Dance as Vetinari (hopefully meaning we can avoid that bizarre Elmur Fudd voice that Jeremy Irons used for the role)

And an actress from Norway called Ingrid Bolsø Berdal playing Angua,

	I love that scene with Bruce and Zatanna. AND OMG GOING POSTAL THAT'S SO COOL. All the other Discworld adaptations have been really good so far. Angua looks AWESOME. (Reply to this) (Thread)

I saw the Going Postal adaption on stage in with Stephen Briggs as Vetinari and sorry, but seeing anyone else in the role is like seeing someone try to impersonate Mark Hamill's Joker. He captures the tone perfectly, and there's always a slight edge of disappointment that no one challenges him enough to be truly interesting to him.

I suppose we should be grateful that it's not David Jason playing Moist.

Coyle certainly has a challenge ahead of him, one of the problems with adapting his stories was showcased in the version I saw was that Moist (Like Harry Potter) as seen is a terribly dull character, most of the drive for him comes from his INTERNAL reaction to things and events rather than anything external or noticeable on screen.

And they really need to make sure that Stanley and Groat are true to their origins as sort of pastiches of Graham Moffatt and Moore Marriott from the old Will Hay movies.

	I don't know...I've never been a fan of Terry's books about Lipwig, sure they had their moments, but they were hardly my favorite Discworld books. Personally, I'd want to see something based on the Guards...but who on earth could you get to play Nobby? They'd have to resort to CGI. XD (Reply to this) (Thread)

Isn't "Going Postal" something of a "measured response" to "Atlas Shrugged" or am I thinking of something else?

Kevin Smith seems to be playing on the close relationship between Batman and Zatanna in his new miniseries. When Batman is wondering who saved him from the Demon, he thinks "Zee?"

Thinking about "Identity Crisis" too long causes Fanboy Madness, although I notice Bruce is vague about the trust that was betrayed. Was it Batman's trust in Zatanna, or the World's trust in the Justice League (as seen by Batman)?

	Hunh, I was actually rereading Going Postal today wishing someone would try an adaption of it. Awesome, not sure of the casting for teh Patrician or Sachrissa. But hey heres hoping that Vetinari doesn't have some funky lisp or whatever the hell this time. (Reply to this)

Seeing Bruce and Zee (especially wee!Bruce and wee!Zee) is always awesome. I remember the Batman TAS episode where Bruce and Zee reunited and thought they had a lot of chemistry. (Also, if they ever had kids, MAGIC BAT BABIES.)

Moist looks very cool, and that is a pitch-perfect Angua. And I'm going to have to picture Charles Dance as Vetinari now.

Okay, serious question: Are there any books I should read before I read Going Postal? (Like how reading Mort first gives you the background of Soul Music.) I know I don't have to read the books in order, but I've been trying to because I'm weird like that. I'm just wondering because I might skip from Intesting Times to Going Postal, then back to Maskerade.

	Cool. I've never read Going Postal. I'll look forward to seeing it. Hogfater was pretty good. I wish they'd make some of the Granny Weatherwax novels into live action. The cartoon verison's animation was pretty terrible... And I'd love to see Maggie Smith as Granny Weatherwax. I always pictured her in the part while reading... (Reply to this) (Thread)

Cripslock is older than I expected, but it's been a while since I read The Truth, and Adora Belle seems younger -- maybe I've been blurring them in my mind. Anyway, I doubt The Truth is high priority for being filmed, so it's not the end of the world either way.

On another note, I tried to watch The Color of Magic a while back but gave up about 15 minutes in because Rincewind wigged me the hell out. Should I try again, guys? I loved Hogfather.

	Looking forward to it. I liked Hogfather, but there were a few points where it was a bit unfunny. They moved some parts/took some parts out that they probably felt were hard to put on the screen and it made other parts weak, but I loved the acress who played Susan. Wish Pratchett came outside of England on book signings. (Reply to this)

As always, the sequence with Bruce and Zee as kids is classic. She is SUCH a li'l cutie-pie - she's the sort of kid it would be a lot of fun to babysit.
As only a casual Discworld fan, I get the feeling I'm missing something. I was aware that the some of the books had been adapted into animation and whatnot, but some of the comments seem to be implying that this is not the first foray into live action that the series has made. Have there been other live action Discworld movies, or am I just misinterpreting things?
