Another addition to the martial arts week and again with Batman. Hey, we all have our single-minded obsessions, don't we? And that was a serious question. Anyway, this is a just short fight scene from the mind-blowingly excellent Prey storyline by Doug Moench, in which he provides a re-imagined version of Dr. Hugo Strange. Somewhat ironically it was originally meant to be a non-canonical story, but it was so good and popular that it became the foundation for the canon Hugo Strange. I would highly recommend the story to anyone, as it is worth it. Now it had a lot of good action sequences as well as excellent character moments, including an extremely brutal mental attack against Bruce, but I'm just posting this one scene as it doesn't require knowledge of the rest of the storyline to understand how awesome a scene it is.

To put it shortly, there is a mobster that both the cops and Batman are chasing. Guess who finds him first?

And I shall just leave it that without going to a long explanation on why I thought the art and writing were so exceptional in making that fight work, as I'm reserving energy for my next, considerably longer post. Hope you enjoyed this small scene as much as I did and Prey has a lot of these kinds of awesome scenes.

Oh yes, I did like Prey very much, it was a story full of suspense and still had its fun moments - like that last panel!

Looking at the older Batman stories, you see detailed martial arts scenes a lot more often. I wonder if the animated fights in games have changed the reading and viewing habits nowadays, so that the panel by panel action just seems too slow? I remember really studying the moves in the pictures when I was a kid, lol.

I´m looking forward to your next post!
