Marvel Adventures: Avengers #39
So, after gathering up my pulls this week, I noticed I had a couple bucks to spare. I'd been thinking about picking up Blackest Night: Superman, but man, with Pet Avengers over I needed something fun. Then I had a better thought.

4 pages from MA: Avengers #39

I cannot remember the last time I bought a comic book and was immediately so pleased that I did as soon as I read the first page. It's Rhino on the phone. The Leader and Abomination have coerced him into helping them break up an army base to get some satellite codes.

After Spidey and Tigra use their resources to break open the case, everyone splits up to take the bad guys down. Bringing Rhino in falls to Tigra, but it ends up easier than it might've sounded on paper.

Now, she's got every right to get mad at the unfortunate implications there, but Tigra's a trooper. I guess you go easy on the guys when they're practically surrendering.

Ultimately, all I can say is Marvel Adventures, where have I been all your life?
This is great stuff, see my childhood heroes actually acting heroic for a change and being fun and funny at the same time? They actually made Spidey smart again! They use excellent teamwork! Everyone is useful! Oh, I need to play around with my pull list and see what I can't work out here on a regular basis!

I only wish I'd had enough space to post the Cannonball Special: Luke Cage Variant. Anyone else want it? (please say yes)
Does anyone know if they've released any trades, or am I jut gonna have to track down the 38 previous issues individually?

MA comes in handy digest format!

Oh I see, and how much would one of those average?

$7 on Amazon and eligible for the four for three deal. If you want to check out the digests IRL they're pretty easily found in the kids' section of your local big box bookstore.

Tigra?

Wearing a one piece suit?

o_O

Her uniform's always been a one piece in MA:A.

Huh, I just realized it looks like a animeish Japanese girl's school swim-uniform.

Stealth dirty?

I don't see it that way, it's really just your standard one-piece unless you're looking for it to be more. It's a funny thing I've noticed in my own stuff, how I could put a character of mine in something I'd later consider embarrassingly immodest, but compared to common comics practice is really rather tame.

Maybe I'm looking too closely. I just finished a season of an anime show and it's common genre trope. Maybe my was brain auto-associating.

I really like the one-piece. Much less chance of wardrobe malfunctions while still being both sexy and functional.

I like the couple just casually stopping to take a picture of Spiderman and Tigra.

And I love that "fight" scene, too.

Marvel Adventures truly does capture the joy of superhero comics, doesn't it?

Even if I have never read from a Marvel Adventures comic that I see in a store, I still know that I will experience great joy upon reading it after purchasing it. Every time.

Oh, definitely! The only thing that disappoints me is that the scene on the cover (Spidey posing heroically while wearing Thor's cape, Wolverine's mask and Cap's shield while the three of them look on exasperatedly, as presented by Casey Jones) never happened in the issue. Given what did happen in the issue, it hardly seems fair to hold that against it, though.

I know.

It's like an example of what Dragonball Z narration would look like in a Marvel comic, only the fights actually finish in one issue. XD

I actually have more icons of Marvel characters than Marvel books I buy each month. Other than Cap Reborn I could not possibly care less about 616.

Yeah, I used to be a big Marvel fan, but then the amount of books I read by them started dropping like flies. Now the only Marvel things I read are... The Stand's comic-ization, the Dark Tower side-stories, and Marvel Adventures. Nothing involving 616 at all.

Marvel Adventures is win and love and a hint of meta. I haven't seen this one yet, but I need it.

MA comics get collected a few at a time into "digests", which are about manga-sized. Sometimes they're collected into larger ones. Check the children's literature section.

That first page? Easily the best moment I've seen in superhero comics all year... Just a few panels, and I'm reminded just why Spider-Man and Tigra used to be among my favorite comics characters.

The Tigra/Rhino fight is great too.

I love how, once Tigra realizes what's going on, she's all 'oooh, this could be fun', and gets all into it. This version of her is a total cutie-pie. Also, the Rhino is a TERRIBLE actor.

Aren't the comics being cancelled?

No lie, I love the Marvel Adventures line. I try to buy everything in trades, even the Incredible Hulk one - and that's a character I don't really like in 616.
