I understand the difference in the two incidents, in terms of Controller wanting to completely dominate a person's life versus her having her underling force her way into Spidey's secrets but still...

She didn't exactly show much empathy or regret for having that done to Spidey, so it is a little bit difficult to entirely sympathise with her plight now.

It really would have interesting if Natasha had offloaded Maria to the New Avengers, just to see what Peter's reaction would have been there, and whether he could rise above it to offer any sympathy..

(Although it could be argued that Peter & MJ messed with everyone's heads at the end of OMD, so perhaps he shouldn't be offering any opinions there..)

A little bit. Hill is right, she's been traumatized. But she had little empathy for others through her short time at the top. Hopefully, the suggestion that this 'rape' will be used as a character builder is correct. Yes, it's a sad cliche for female characters, but I would turn my opinion of her around 100% if she became the same tough bitch she has been, but added some respect and understanding to the much more horrific trials that most heroes have been through.

To become the new Fury she needs a cool deformity though.
