BOP #68: A canary or a "mock"ing bird? or The Sexual History of Helena Bertinelli
The first page of Cry For Justice #2 has caused some controversy on this board and elsewhere. But it's not like that kind of "behavior" is unheard of in Huntress' history.

First, Babs and the girls talk about Savant, who kidnapped Black Canary and chained her to a fridge bed.

Uh-oh. Anyone know the exact issues?

This was revealed in OUTSIDERS #12, but not the circumstances. Nightwing must have told Oracle. Because that's not weird at all.

Ah, so Roy is "quick to let fly." No wonder Cheshire got pregnant!

Birds of Prey #68 - Page 7

Well, give she's now about Roy's age due to that Lazarus Pit dip, it's less "mother and son" these days.

How does that date go?

Birds of Prey #68 - Page 22

Sheesh, I thought they only kept the masks on in ULTIMATE or ALL-STAR stories. Supposedly Gail Simone wrote this so Helene could find realize she deserved better in the romance department. Is a threesome with Hal Jordan and Lady Blackhawk really better? Well, I doubt they'd keep their masks on.

Culture in general is a lot more comfortable with females who are gay than males. Has that been changing lately in movies or TV or anything?

Well, I'm not especially up on TV or movies right now, but I don't think gay or bisexual women are featured in a lot of media, except for when it's entertainment for men, rather than something the women are doing for their own sakes.

You mean instead of entertainment aimed at women or actors that actually are gay? Judging by scans_daily (maybe not a representative sample), there are a lot of people looking for lesbian characters.

I'm not talking about what people would like to see, I'm talking about how lesbians are portrayed in mainstream media and how frequently they appear. My point is that there are not a lot of lesbian or bisexual women in mainstream media (characters) who were not put there to entertain male viewers.

Gay male characters on TV are a bit more common, though I think they do tend to suffer a lot of stereotyping.

I'm sure there is a lot of interest in seeing sexual diversity (and all forms of diversity) in mainstream media, but those with the power to make it don't often seem to realize that.

Basing things on what you see fandom is a poor way to judge mainstream media.

This is so true. There's a gulf between what I hear people say in everyday life and what I read on communities.

It's not so much a matter of comfort as 'it's okay so long as they're hot or, though mostly 'and', will sleep with guys too'.

Japanese culture seems to be much more into the androgynous-looking gay men. The most we have here are the boy pop singers who look vaguely male but are as pretty as the girl pop singers.
