That's kinda why I said "another".

Of course, they've also made Peter into a pathetic man-child again, who's too scared to even talk to his "ex". But that's another point entirely.

Yes because Peter's akwardness with women only began post OMD, it never ever ever happened before in Spider-Man history.

And it totally out of the realm of reality that a guy would be leery of talking with their ex with whom they had an apparant major falling out.

No, Peter was indeed an awkward teen. But taking him back to that after many years of his maturity levels growing, that really just emphasises the whole man-child thing. By trying to return the character to how he was thirty years ago, they've stripped him of his maturity, but not his years.

But you missed my second point, any guy would be leery of talking to an ex after a huge fallout with her. He isn't going "Gawrsh that MJ sure is keen! But I could never talk to her..." He's simply in a very awkward situation here. I'm sure any guy his age would be.

I wasn't, even when I was slightly younger, and even more inclined to fuck up, than Peter was. Please avoid tarring all men with your broad brush.

He's in a awkward situation, I forgive him for not being Casanova.

He got drunk and fucked a random girl he doesn't even remember. Please tell me that you don't think that this is somehow an "average guy" reaction to meeting one's ex, because if so, then you have a much lower opinion of "average guys" than I do (and it's moot anyway, since Peter is NOT an "average guy," and never has been).

Bottom line? Peter Parker's behavior should not remind me of a Seth Rogen character. This is the sort of emotionally stunted bullshit that I'd expect from Flash Thompson, except that even he has more maturity and decency than Peter now.

Err, it's not as if Peter hasn't done similar stuff before. (again, the Betty example earlier).

When he was younger and ostensibly less mature. Once again, you're making my argument for me - the character is now REGRESSING from the level of maturity that he USED to have.

When was the last time he had a nasty shock? It's not really regression if there is a repeating pattern that hasn't had a trigger recently.

If seeing Mary Jane is, in and of itself, enough to qualify as a "nasty shock," with everything else that he's endured, then they've regressed his emotional age to about 12.

Really? He's seeing a girl he had (from what it looks like) a pretty nasty break-up with. This in the middle of a rather confusing period (including just returning from fighting Doc Ock. And he's being offered drinks constantly.

Seriously, I've seen grown men act *far* more immature than that with far less provocation. Especially when drunk. (which people tend to be at weddings)

You know, I might be more forgiving on this score if it wasn't A YEAR AND A HALF and MORE THAN 50 ISSUES AFTER THE FACT, and we STILL don't know ANYTHING about how or why Peter and Mary Jane broke up.

Good stories SHOW, rather than TELLING, but BND has somehow managed to do NEITHER.

They've dropped enough hints, I think. We don't know the specifics, true (it's bordering on Noodle Incident level at this stage) but I don't think we need every bit of info spoon-fed. (Although I suspect they're going to reveal at least some details this arc)

I don't.

Quesada himself established that they had such a legendary and enduring love that Mephisto was willing to save a human life to get it, a deal that he's never made with anyone else EVER, so guess what? You MUST tell me the reasons WHY such an unparalleled love ended, and that's it, period, the end. There is absolutely no room for compromise on this point, THANKS TO QUESADA'S OWN STORYTELLING.

Why? They traded it a away. It's right there in the damn text.

And yes, it's stupid, but not in the way you seem to think.

Except that MARVEL ITSELF has stated that THIS IS NO LONGER THE CASE, which means that we DON'T know the "real" reason, and they won't see fit to tell us THAT until 2010, according to recent interviews.

If the trade had been "I save your aunt and you NEVER SEE EACH OTHER AGAIIIN!!!", then sure, but it was more "I save your aunt and I change time so you HAVEN't been seeing each other for AGES!". In which case, yeah, we need to know why (unless it leads to a "oh it's all flooding back! kiss me, wife!" scene).

Dude, relax.

Neither of us are attacking you, it's a debate about comics and you seem to be getting reallypissed about it.

My apologies; I don't know anything about you IRL, and as much, do not bear you any personal animus, so while I can understand why you'd think that I'm shouting at YOU, I'm really getting pissed at MARVEL, and expressing that rage THROUGH you, if that makes any sense. :)

More importantly, the fact that Peter's behavior here is obviously nothing more than a means to an end makes me reject it on principle alone, because much like a lot of Mark Waid's more sitcom-esque moments, he seems to come up with the punchlines first, and then build his stories backwards to set up those punchlines, regardless of whether they fit the characters or not. I don't think he even CARES if this fits Peter's character or not, so long as he gets his punchline of Peter waking up next to an apparent stranger. I will ALWAYS reject such writing.

Meh, while I don't precisely disagree (I'm not a big fan of Waid's writing either) I think in this point he managed to make it fit at least tolerable anyway. (be it pure dumb luck or not) so I'm not that bothered.
