Upon rereading Under the Hood, I noticed something that I loved from Jason at the time and something that I wish had stayed consistant on, to be honest.

There is no way in hell Bruce would let Dick die if he is anywhere near him. The only times any of the Batfamily are really in danger is when Bruce isn't around. Amazo would have to go through Bruce to get to Dick, Bruce would shield Dick until his last breath. So, the only way Bruce could survive Amazo was if Dick did too.

You mean aside from unleashing the Amazo on Bruce and Dick? Okay, how about in the Bruce Jones run on Nightwing OYL, they fight repeatedly, and Jason wants Dick out of the way so HE can be Nightwing.

Jason also grabs Nightwing when Dick is plummeting down.

Leaving aside the fact that it would be utterly ludicrous for freaking Dick Greyson to die in a fall, the text did specifically point out that Dick was extremely dizzy and wasn't sure he could save himself.

It would seem Jason has a love/hate relationship with Dick. And when I say love/hate I mean grudging respect/total jealousy. Dick is Bruce's 'first born' he's been Jason's measuring stick ever since Jason started being Robin. Like with a lot of sibling rivalry, Jason would probably think he'd never measure up to Dick, so Dick is problematic in Jason being seen as the best. However, Jason gives some respect to him, he wants to imitate him (it's the best form of flattery), do everything he does because if Dick is the best, and Jason can be as good or better than him, Jason will be the proverbial 'favorite child'. Jason can this way acknowledge Dick's place as a gifted and hardworking hero - one of the best of the best at what they do.
