I'll let you guys make up your own minds. One image from the preview.

IGN has the previews.

Red Robin in action.

I'm torn. tim has the rights, the grace and the support to where the cowl, but reading Tim like this makes me think he should have been the Bat.

Tim got really big really quick.

I think THAT is my only problem with this. The premise looks good, I love the "Tim is using his detective skills to find Bruce" angle, but Red Robin looks SO un-Tim-like.

Seconded! (Also, this costume is still horrendously ugly.)

No way he had one Tim's size.

Bruce has been repeating for years that he wanted Tim to be Batman after him, so the possibility of a Tim-sized suit makes more sense to me than one in Dick's size.

What nobody seems to be addressing here, though, and what DC seems to be completely ignoring, is that Tim has specifically said that he doesn't WANT to be Batman. Hell, he doesn't (didn't, I should say) even want to progress past being Robin. In one of the early issues of Nightwing, Dick and Tim are hanging out, and Tim says that one of the main differences between their respective careers as Robin is that Dick always saw himself as Bruce's successor, or at any rate, someone who was being trained for a life of crime-fighting. Tim said that he did NOT see himself that way - he volunteered to become Robin because he idolized Batman and wanted to fight alongside him, not because he wanted to be a lifelong superhero. "I do my stint as Robin, then go back to a normal life." That's what he said.
So really, the issue is not whether or not he should have been Batman, it's whether or not he should have gotten a new identity in the first place - if he can't be Robin any more for some reason, he should've A: retired, or B: continued fighting crime in some sort of non-costumed capacity. I realize that everyone has the right to change their mind, but he was pretty firm about it.

It doesn't read like Tim, but it does make sense. The youthful zest is gone, and it reads more... noir, for lack of a better word.

yeah, it does
I kinda like this though . . . when I heard that Tim was going to be Red Robin, I thought that things would turn to crap
but this preview seems pretty good (still hate the weird cowl though)

so, has he moved over to Bludhaven or is he just temporarily out of town, or what?

Curious, but still looking for what makes this superhero-detective story unique. Especially since Tim's no longer the kid, protégé, teenager with a family, and littlest guy in the fight.

T-Timmy? Is that you?!

Wow. What big muscles you have! What an ugly helmet you have! What a badass bike you have! What near-lethal aggression - IS THAT AN AMMO BELT?!

On the plus side...um, well the art's nice and I always like seeing Tim kick ass. Hopefully, the rest of it is good too.

I know it couldn't go on forever, but I'm going to take another moment to mourn my chubby cheeked, spiky-haired, runty little computer geek who wanted nothing more than to grow up to be Dick Grayson. =(

I can't deal with the manly cowl. I'm not in the "Young Justice forever" camp but he's just not this old. The new ID seems forced; they should have presented an organic reason for him to take on a new persona.

I also think Chris Yost is extremely hit and miss and overrated. But I'm curious - I'll check it out.

Nooo! Tim should be tiny and snarky and cute and oh why do I bother.

Man, I figure that if anyone's going to be Robin instead of Tim, it should be Steph and not Damian-Sue over there. That would kill two birds with one stone, as he can go around being Man-Spoiler!

Other people who would be better Robins: anybody ever.

Yeah, I wouldn't have minded Steph going back to being Robin if Dick had asked her nicely. I can actually see those two getting along and having a decent brother-sister kind of relationship, though they haven't interacted much before to my knowledge. And out of all the slightly older bat-folk, Dick is probably the only one (save Alfred) who wouldn't have some screwed up reason to treat her badly in the end.

(Batman, because he used her when Tim quit being Robin and the whole "she's just like Jason" BS, Babs because she probably saw too much of herself in Steph and didn't want to encourage her to be a vigilante lest she end up dead, and Tim because what with him being her ever-angsty ex-boyfriend it's probably not healthy at this point.)

It would have been an interesting and refreshing dynamic to have Dick as Batman, Steph as Robin and Cass as Batgirl.

Actually even Dick - nice guy that he is would have a screwed up reason. Since they have never met and the last two times (by editorial fiat) she screwed up) and to an outsider she's their to date Robin "Great another Flamebird."

Looks interesting, but why is DC intent on making Tim, one of my favourite characters ever, into such a total dick? I don't care how "cool" it is to be angsty and near Bat-god levels, I just want the nerdy, neurotic and funny Tim back.

And Dear goodness that girl he mentions is captive better not be Spoiler or I'm going to have a fit.

Theoretically, I like Tim as a character. However, I don't like the way he was drawn here, and I don't like the costume. I'd really have preferred if Damien didn't enter crime-fighting yet, and Tim remained Robin until the Superman title is no longer using the codename Nightwing, and Tim can take up Dick's former mantle when Damien becomes Robin (or they can bring back Bruce, Dick goes back to being Nightwing, and Tim becomes Flamebird). Wouldn't that have just worked more smoothly, as far as making sense goes? ...Also, the internal monologue feels rather forced to me.
