616? We don't need no steekin' 616!
Hey guys! This is my first time sharing comics at the new S_D so I'm really excited! I thought I'd share a little bit of the Marvel Adventures Avengers. It may be marketed to kids, but it's got snark, it's got action and it's got some pretty good characterization and minimal angst, which is my kind of comic. I'd especially recommend it to those who aren't exactly thrilled with current 616!canon. I know I like it more.

Back-story: The Avengers get attacked by Baron Zemo, who takes them down and runs off with Cap. The Avengers aren't very happy about this, but there's nothing they can do right away, so they retreat and regroup.

And this is the reason why I really like the Marvel Adventures Avengers so much. They have personalities! In Storm's case, that means that she isn't just the regal African goddess; she's a leader who analyzes the Avengers' performance in battle and she's a teammate who's not afraid to joke around every now and then. The same sort of thoughtful characterization applies to the rest of the characters. Smart characters are smart, characters with leadership skills lead, and the banter's not half bad to boot.

"My posters sell better" with a very prominent butt shot.

Yeah, I can see why.

T&A like that feels very out of place in this book. I dunno.

It does a little, but to be honest, in comparison the the kind of T&A you get in some of the other Marvel books, I didn't notice it until people commented about it. >>;

Hell, Justice League/JLU was nearly as blatant, ten times as frequently.

I mean, there's only so many ways you can portray the human body. Into each life there must come a little T&A.

I'm just glad that this T&A is relatively understated and anatomically correct. Woo, non-broken backs and torsos that might actually contain enough space to hold the necessary amount of internal organ-meats.

Plus, she's not wearing butt-hugging spandex like 99.9% of other superheroines out there.

I can't see why. Seriously, this has to be one of the most beautiful T&A shots out there - mostly for being so damn understated and beautifully drawn. She looks gorgeous and *human*.

As for having T&A at all, well, variety is the spice of life, and a nice mix of the sexual helps. It's nice that they put a little flavor right there. It's funny, it's sexy, it gives Storm a chance to both be witty and enticing. No one loses.

Plus, just think of the number of kids who will grow up lusting after white-haired African storm goddesses. I for one heartily encourage this.

Isn't it one of S_D's unwritten rules that the Marvel Adventures 'verse is canon and the mainline is an Ultimates-style AU? Right between "Porn Week must cause you to doubt a just and loving god" and "all bad characterization is to be blamed on skrulls"?

More central to this post in particular, someone mentioned on an earlier MA Avengers post that it's too bad we don't really see Banner anymore, just mostly Hulk, and I agree that is true. I can't say why, but just him holding that icepack on his head here is totally charming to me.

If it wasn't before, it should be now.

Also, that's another of the things I really like about the MA!Avengers. There's a lot of Hulk, yes, but in the issues I've read so far, there's just as much consideration given to Banner as a scientist and as a person. I do enjoy it when geeky characters get their geek on, especially when it's characters like Banner or Peter Parker, who get to hero a lot, but don't necessarily get to show off their brains as much.

Lots of the more recent ones have a happy/simple Hulk and don't mention or show Bruce at all. The latest one did have him, so maybe it depends on the issue.

I think there should also be a rule about when Marvel gets a new editor in chief the last few years are retconed ala Dallas with Tony waking up to find Steve in his shower, then they done have sex!

I posted those on old s_d. If you want to use my images and get them from the backup, I have no complaints. Everything I posted had the issue number as a title, so they'll be easy enough to find.

MA: A is love.

This issue is also the one which starts with the Avengers snarking at a wartime propoganda film.

Yep. Was there a post of the movie scene yet? If not, there should be, and I'd be willing to make it, assuming I can get my scanner to cooperate.

I adore MA:A. I already own a copy of volume 1 of the trades, and I'm waiting for my special order of volume 2 to arrive at the bookstore. I'm planning on buying the rest as I have the extra money for them and the time to special order them. (I can probably post a couple scans if someone has a request, though the quality might not be spectacular.) Doc Banner with his icepack in the first scan is made of adorable. *<3's the geeky characters muchly*
