I don't particularly care for how the story has been set up and the Bendisian dialogue ticks have been very grating (Hellstrom talks like a really bad 90's action movie) but on the whole, it's been surprisingly entertaining.

Brother Voodoo -at least temporarily- being the New Sorceror Supreme is something I could get behind.

'Specially as he's rocking those fantastic Supreme-duds.

Although, again, I can't help feeling that there's another event taking place beneath the surface of Dark Reign, one called "Obama Fever". I'm all in favour of a Black Sorcerer Supreme...but why not five years ago, eh?

So black characters can't be used now without being accused of being Obama-fever?

I'm more saying that it just seems oddly convenient that this should happen now rather than before we COULD accuse it of being Obama-fever. After all, Drumm has had the raw power and experience to take over the mantle before this - what factor other than sales and trying to keep on the media pulse could have made it happen now?

Because Strange didn't give up the mantle before?

I don't see how Obama's popularity extends to other black characters. If you want to complain about he guest-stars in all the other comics, that's one thing.

I know he's either lost it or given it up at least once or twice. Salome ended up with it for awhile in the 90's.

He has? When? I thought he was supposed to be an extremely minor practicioner of mysticism, probably not as capable as the goons Strange's usual enemies employ. I'll grant that he's a noble heroic figure with a long history (when he hasn't been treated as a joke), but I'd think that every other candidate we've been shown so far is his superior in terms of expertise and raw power.

I'd suggest it's a coincidence. Bendis grew up reading Marvel in a very specific era, and a lot of those characters are now seeing a revival in his work for the company. Because of that particular era, the mid-seventies, a lot of the characters also happen to be black; Marvel had a "blaxploitation" period just like movies did.

I fully expect the literal Son of Satan to speak like a bad 90's action movie.

It's by far the least irritating option of those I've seen. The Hood is an inalterably silly idea, and I am not one of the Doom fangirls.

As a Doom neutral, I just think it'd be silly because there's only so many things you can do with it before he eventually gets bored with all that power.
