This guy? the guy that made Deadpool break down and laugh, even though he was surrounded by hundreds of zombies?

This guy?

you're thinking Black Talon.

This one is a good guy.

That's supposed to be an accent, I think.

... of course, I don't think I've ever seen him speak with one, but in the face of this portrayal of Dr Strange, I don't have the energy to pick at it.

That was The Black Talon. I think you're confused because the recent Marvel Zombies 4 introduced a badass alternate Talon who also dressed in chicken parts.

I find it odd that Jericho is now speaking in 'Street', but I haven't seem him much in other stuff. Him as Sorcerer Supreme would be quite nice, I think.

I think it's intended to sound Jamaican or Hatian, rather than "street". Could be wrong though.

Accents do not work that way. (a lot of the time anyway) you're dealing with a separate vocabulary, not simply a verbal tic.

I'd just like to point out that Jericho Drumm is a university doctorate and has always spoken perfect English. Why turn his speech pattern stereotypical by now?

I tried doing the accent for a RPG game I was GMing set in Jamaica.

Everyone -- and I mean everyone -- ended up speaking with a scottish accent instead.

I think those are apostrophes to show that he is abbreviating words. Like when you type y'see.

Actually the first thing my eyes were drawn to were "Brudder Voodoo"

Except, again, Bendis-brand fail for putting an apostrophe before 'da', which is simply an accented 'the'.

Because previously it was an example of the whiteinization of other cultures!

Stop that.

No. And you can't make me.

No, seriously, stop that. This isn't a case of racism or reverse racism, this is just ignorance of characterization. Seriously. Quit it.

Nyaah, I can be a jerk if I want to be.

Okay, that's it. I'm pulling out the fan art. If I can't win an argument on the internet WITH MYSELF with FAN ART, I don't want to live.

Do. Your. Worst.

quit it

That's what I thought.

Yes. I would love for Freakazoid to somehow become canon in the DCU, just so things like this could happen.

Also, WW/CJ battle of bondage.

I don't particularly care for how the story has been set up and the Bendisian dialogue ticks have been very grating (Hellstrom talks like a really bad 90's action movie) but on the whole, it's been surprisingly entertaining.

Brother Voodoo -at least temporarily- being the New Sorceror Supreme is something I could get behind.

'Specially as he's rocking those fantastic Supreme-duds.

Although, again, I can't help feeling that there's another event taking place beneath the surface of Dark Reign, one called "Obama Fever". I'm all in favour of a Black Sorcerer Supreme...but why not five years ago, eh?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]ex_stig213

I'm more saying that it just seems oddly convenient that this should happen now rather than before we COULD accuse it of being Obama-fever. After all, Drumm has had the raw power and experience to take over the mantle before this - what factor other than sales and trying to keep on the media pulse could have made it happen now?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]drsevarius
2009-05-30 03:09 pm UTC (link)
Because Strange didn't give up the mantle before?

I don't see how Obama's popularity extends to other black characters. If you want to complain about he guest-stars in all the other comics, that's one thing.

I know he's either lost it or given it up at least once or twice. Salome ended up with it for awhile in the 90's.

After all, Drumm has had the raw power and experience to take over the mantle before this...

He has? When? I thought he was supposed to be an extremely minor practicioner of mysticism, probably not as capable as the goons Strange's usual enemies employ. I'll grant that he's a noble heroic figure with a long history (when he hasn't been treated as a joke), but I'd think that every other candidate we've been shown so far is his superior in terms of expertise and raw power.

I'd suggest it's a coincidence. Bendis grew up reading Marvel in a very specific era, and a lot of those characters are now seeing a revival in his work for the company. Because of that particular era, the mid-seventies, a lot of the characters also happen to be black; Marvel had a "blaxploitation" period just like movies did.

It's by far the least irritating option of those I've seen. The Hood is an inalterably silly idea, and I am not one of the Doom fangirls.

As a Doom neutral, I just think it'd be silly because there's only so many things you can do with it before he eventually gets bored with all that power.

Yes, it's mostly palms don't wotk that way. I can get my fingers to do the spread thumb and pinky, with raised forefinger and middle and curled ring. Or spread thumb and pinky, with together ring and middle and curled forefinger. On both hands. At the same time. Can I put in my application for Sorcerer Supreme?

...I can also rub/pat my belly while patting/rubbing my head. It's a good skill for foreplay.

I kind of think the idea of a Sorcerer Supreme who belts out "What 'da hell wrong wit' you people?" is awesome and peculiar at the same time. Yes it's inconsistent characterization but this is Bendis for fuck's sake. What do people expect? Puppies and intellectual discourse? Hell no. He's the god damn Bendis after all.

Weird side not, I knew a Jamaican girl once. Couldn't tell she was Jamaican until she got really angry or really stressed then she'd suddenly end up with the Jamaican accent heavier than I'd ever heard. (She was scary when she was angry ^_^*)

Also, I love that Luke Cage just hit the earthly incarnation of a dark elder-god like thing with a car. This amuses me.
