The Creepy Conclusion
With the '1/3 fair use' rules being extended to short stories as well, I've decided to end my Warren posts. In my opinion, it would not work for the majority of the remaining stories--if you have a six page story, for example, only showing two pages would be hard, mainly because I would be recapping most of the story myself and the effect would be lost.
That being said, there are still some stories that I was really looking forward to sharing for quite some time that I was saving for the end, so I decided I would post excerpts from them anyway. Most of them are from Creepy, but there's an Eerie and Vampirella hiding around as well.
First up is an amusing story from Creepy #132. I'm posting the first and last page of the story here.
So, as you can expect, Rah goes to the football game, and finds a spare outfit in the locker.
Now it's time for some Edgar Allan Poe adaptations. The first one is from #67, and it's of the last four pages of their adaptation of the Raven. As you can see, they obviously took a lot of liberties with it and basically retold it with the basic gist. Richard Corben's art is beautiful, though.
The rest appeared in #69 and #70.
The infamous murder scene of “The Murders in the Rue Morgue”:
The grisly finale to “The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar”:
The ending of “The Fall of the House of Usher”:
One of his lesser-known stories, “The Oval Portrait”:
There's also some Berni Wrightson art. The first one, from #113, comes from “The Pepper Lake Monster”.
Also from #113 is “The Muck Monster”.
This one's from Eerie #62. It's an adaptation of H. P. Lovecraft's “Cool Air”.
Finally, to end on a somewhat happier note, here's some pages from Vampirella #58, titled “The Matchstick Angel”.
