Jeez, do I hate Sam Lane now. Zod looks good in comparison. The only way this ends up for the general is a) he goes mad, b) he ends up in jail c) he gets killed/dies. That's pretty much it IMO.

Sam Lane wins the "Worlds Biggest Idiot" award for leaving Lex Luthor alone in the same room as Brainiac.

Echoing the dislike for Sam Lane.

Can't wait for Mon to reunite with The Guardian, I really like their friendship.

Lane and Thunderbolt Ross should play golf together.

Hopefully now Kara,Thara, and Chris can stop being public enemies. I starting to think when World of New Krypton ends it will lead into some sort of Earth vs. New Krypton event.

Given that they've already said there's a big Superman event this year (if I recall correctly) and the hint dropped in this week's Adventure Comics mentioning the "Earth - New Krypton War" yeah...looks like Lane's going to get his war.

Damn, I'm tired of seeing the Earth/US as mindless warmonogers. Furthermore isn't the GLC suppose to prevent this stuff, I know their dealing with BN right now and New Kyrpton is supposedly out of their jurisdiction, but BN isn't happening in the main Superman storyline and theirs 4 GL's from Earth.

From the looks of thing, there'll be plenty of blame to go around. It sounds like Zod certainly plays a key role in events. I'm sure the GLs will show up, too, but still.

Plus, they've made it fairly clear that Lane is kind of running his own show.

Ask General Lane.

"...you're still the same hollow creature you were when you washed up on Earth."

The phrase refers to victims of shipwrecks--they literally wash up on shore when the tide comes in. Basically it implies that someone has lost everything, failed.

Which is why I didn't think it was Mon-El, as last I checked he was doing pretty well. I had considered possibly Atlas.

If the people in the DCU were willing to crucify Supergirl and co. based on some flimsy video-tape and a found cape...well, I suppose he really doesn't have to worry.

I mean, it's not like anyone has EVER fooled the public in the DCU using such methods, right? RIGHT? Hmmmm.

Well, think about. Out how many times when they can't find a body of a person and they declare him dead, only to find out that the guy wasn't dead at all?

Question: How many times did Superman lost he rep but then quickly regain it in the eyes of the people? I mean, remember what Cyborg Superman or Russian Zod did when they don's Supes "S" and face?

Sorry, General, but some of us see "lives sacrificed" and think the same as "lives wasted."

Because he's really just saying, "It's only sad when my guys die. Anybody else dying is just war."

How is that different from what most soldiers feel?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]janegray

Normal soldiers who are caught in the crossfire can't really be expected to feel empathy for the enemy, they are too busy trying to survive while following orders.

However, a freaking general, the one who gives the orders, is supposed to know and do better. There is a reasons officers who caused the death of too many enemies by using overly-ruthless tactics have been tried as war criminals in their own country.

And yet there is much evidence of it being the soldiers on the ground who DO have the empathy since often the opposite side really IS made up of people just like them and they know it.

The above two posters are getting at what I meant.

Basically, Gen. Lane is being portrayed as a 2D zealot bastard rather than an interesting, idealistically motivated antagonist, who's actually kind of sympathetic because of all he's sacrificed for a perceived "greater good".

It would be nice if he were written that way, but he's not.

Sam Lane and Alura are both single, right? I think I see an end to hostilities. They have a lot in common, and it wouldn't be the first time a marital union ended a war...
