metempsychosis - a modern day mythological rpg [09 Feb 2011|05:29pm]

Think of any long-gone deity from mythology. Now imagine that they aren't truly gone but instead that their essence lives on...is reincarnated inside of that guy who sits next to you on the bus every day. Or Maureen from Accounting. Or maybe even inside of you.

The old deities once existed, once walked the Earth, and mortals trembled at their names. Long ago, they each slowly faded out, their existence only remembered as fables and tales. During this decline, one deity gathered up and called upon his or her last reserves of power and influence to create a reprieve, of sorts, for them all. They would find their essence--their souls if you will--not dissipated amongst the matter of the Universe but instead reborn inside a mortal body. The gods would be mortal, yes, their power would be greatly diminished, yes, and they might not even remember what they once were, but they would at least exist.

TENSOR: An AU X-Men High School/College RPG (18+) [09 Feb 2011|05:51pm]
In a world where mutation has never been a dividing factor, where world governments have accepted and integrated powered individuals fully into civic life and mutation is an increasingly desired quality, the prestigious Charles Francis Xavier Academy and its associated University offer one of the finest educations in the world to those who manifest the most impressive, useful, and frequently dangerous powers. For the past sixty-five years, as the percentage of powered individuals in the population has steadily increased, graduates of the University have been moving into positions of influence in politics, industry, and the United State's elite military branch, S.H.I.E.L.D. While individual finance is no bar to attendance, and all suitably powered individuals are offered admission regardless of ability to pay, the prestige associated with an Xavier's degree is such that the social, political, and economic elite of the United States and its allies jockey to secure admission for their children, regardless of power status. Come walk its hallowed halls and see where an Xavier's education will take you.

Forgotten Gods [09 Feb 2011|10:51pm]

"Immortals are what you wanted," said Thor in a low, quiet voice. "Immortals are what you got. It is a little hard on us. You wanted us to be for ever, so we are for ever. Then you forget about us. But we are still for ever. Now at last, many are dead, many are dying," he then added in a quiet voice, "but it takes a special effort."

-- Douglas Adams

Forgotten Gods follows the deities of ancient mythologies, brought to America long ago by explorers or immigrants from their homelands and eventually abandoned or lost from memory. As their worshippers have moved on to new religions, the gods' powers have waned -- for a god, at its most pure essence, is no more than an idea, and an idea is worthless if there is nobody to believe in it. Some have passed, forgotten, from the world, while others have fallen into madness. Some have simply tried to adapt, to make a life for themselves in this place without gods, getting by on what little scraps of worship and belief they can garner. Others are more radical, intent on regaining the power that was once theirs and reviving their followings.

And then there are the New Gods. Gods of cars and computers, television and radio, cities and highways, all those things that modern Americans put their faith in. They are young, at the height of their power. These newcomers are regarded dismissively by some of the old ones, who have seen so many new deities rise and fall in their time; jealously by others, who wish to reclaim the power for their own; and by all with a deep, abiding wariness.

Inspired by the world of Neil Gaiman's American Gods, this game invites players to step into the roles of deities, old and new, to create their own modern mythology.
