-As of March 1st, 2011, no applications for established characters will be accepted. All new characters will have to be introduced as being new to the school.
-The minimum age for players is 18, do not apply if you are under age.
-All posts must be third person past tense.
-Please pay attention to your grammar, spelling, and punctuation. We will enforce a certain minimum standard.
-Do not use OOC information IC. This especially applies to S.H.I.E.L.D.'s behind the scenes running of the schools. S.H.I.E.L.D. is good. They cover their tracks. Characters are not allowed to figure this out. As far as they know S.H.I.E.L.D. just provides expertise in the department of powers training and utilizes the facilities of the Xavier University as part of their Cadet Training Program.
-Conversely, don't take IC actions personally. Some characters will not get along and that's fine (it's wonderful even, conflict is fun!), so don't assume that because character A hates your character's guts that player A hates you also.
-If you do think you and another player might have some kind of misunderstanding or conflict, please try to work it out like the mature adults we know you all are. If that doesn't work, or you don't feel comfortable talking to someone for whatever reason, then please bring your problem to the mods and we'll help you try to work things out to everyone's satisfaction.
-A powered character may not use their powers against another character without player permission. Bear in mind, though, that ferals, telepaths, empaths and the like can sense certain things so please be reasonable in working with their players where necessary.
-Each character is required to make at least one 'journal' post per week (which can take the form of any first person communication).
-Each player must participate in a thread or log in the IC comm at least once per week, and each character must participate in a thread or log in the IC comm at minimum once per month. Activity checks will be conducted monthly.
-IM logs may be cleaned up and posted to the comm as part of game canon so long as all parties agree.
-IC actions have IC consequences, please be aware of that when choosing your character(s)’ actions. If you wish to know the likely response to a particular course of action in advance, please talk to a mod and we’ll be happy to discuss it with you. But once you’ve made your move, well...you break it, you bought it. So please be sure you’re willing to live with the consequences of your character’s actions as there will be absolutely no retconning allowed.
-This is an adult game and adult material is allowed, including but not limited to graphic sex and violence, slash, femslash, rape, incest and other kink. If this is a problem for you please do not apply. Characters under the age of 16 are not to engage in sexual activity in the comm.
-If you do post material of a graphic nature please use appropriate content warnings as well as cut tags if the graphic content is in the opening post. A separate post will be available and tagged in the OOC comm with a list of specific suggested or required warnings which should be included in/added to the subject line of the opening post as necessary. If a previously non-graphic thread takes a different turn farther on, simply edit a warning to that effect into the initial post and then include a specific warning in the subject line of the post where the graphic content begins.
-There is currently a cap of FIVE characters per player. The mods do reserve the right to deny applications for additional characters based on lack of activity with existing characters. This cap may go up in the future and is intended to ensure that people are playing characters they know and love and will be able to keep consistently active in the game.
-Characters may be taken from any Marvel canon, so long as they can be logically adapted to the setting. This includes powered and un-powered humans as well as aliens. However, mutation is the only source of powers in this world, and if you choose to play a powered human you will need to adapt the source of their powers or abilities to mutation. (ie: Johnny Storm, or Peter Parker) Unpowered characters may also be given logical powers in keeping with their canon. (ie: Tony Stark as a technopath) Aliens are allowed as aliens, however they must be the children of either alien refugees or aliens whom were stranded upon Earth. They must be unaware of their alien status, believing themselves to be powered humans. Only aliens from the Kree, Skrull and Majesdanian races are allowed in game. Inhumans, Shi'ar, and all other races must apply as powered humans.
-Any character may be a first or second generation powered humans, but only characters who are canonically at least second generation powered humans may be third generation powered humans for game purposes.
-Clones are not allowed. However, characters who are clones in canon can be adapted. Possibilities would be as a relative of the character they were cloned from or simply as a similar but entirely unrelated character. When deciding if a clone will be a relative or unrelated, unless both characters are applied for at the same time the first accepted application has priority.
-Characters may be any age and in any grade from elementary school through college, though we anticipate the majority of the game involving characters of high school age. Please keep this in mind when deciding on your character's age.
-Also, please remember that being a S.H.I.E.L.D Cadet is a military obligation and will severely impact a character's time and personal liberties. It is somewhere between being in R.O.T.C. on steroids and being a cadet at West Point or the like. Uniforms and dress codes, curfews, strict codes of conduct and punishing training schedules are all part of the lifestyle.
-Obscure characters abound in the Marvel universe, please feel free to apply for them if they catch your fancy. Do not, however, pick characters so obscure as to be non-existent, with no discernible canon personality or powers, and use them to bring OCs into a canon only game.
-Canon secondary mutations and gradual, logical advancements in a character’s powers and abilities are perfectly acceptable and can be lots of fun, just please run any ideas along these lines past the mods before pursuing them in game play.
-If you wish to apply for a character with pre-existing relationships with characters already in play, be advised that your history will need to mesh with theirs and that the already accepted player(s) will have final say as to establishing details.
-Romance can be very personal and intimate to play, so please do not apply for a character in an already established romantic relationship with another character already in play without consulting with and getting approval from that character’s player.
-Post all in character actions in the IC community, including closed third person narratives. All out of character comments or questions should go in the OOC community.
-We’ll be providing over-arching plot for the game but feel free to create your own personal drama and conflict to your heart’s content, or to suggest plot ideas for your characters or the game in general. We can’t guarantee that everything will fit in the framework of the game but will do our best to work in any reasonable requests or interesting suggestions.
-Please do not have your characters engage in actions that will significantly affect other characters, planned plot, or the game in general without first clearing it with the mods and those affected. We understand, though, that sometimes threads simply go in unexpected directions and lead to unintended consequences. If this appears to be happening please let anyone likely to be affected know as soon as it becomes evident so that no one’s caught flat-footed in an unplanned situation not of their making.
-Any player who drops will automatically lose all status and entitlements, and if they choose to rejoin (and are approved) will be of equal status with new players and must re-earn any privileges and caps.
-Remember that no one always wins. Please be willing to work with your fellow players to create interesting and realistic story-lines for everyone to be involved with and enjoy.
-Finally, please remember that this is a majority powered human friendly world. Powered humans are now approximately 25% of the United States' population (somewhat larger worldwide), the majority of them under the age of 25. While non-powered humans still occupy most positions of power and authority this is primarily a function of age, and as the most recent generation matures they will step into positions of power and prestige in every walk of life, and people aspire to have children who manifest powers.
