eddie/bruce crime alley log
Who: Bruce and Eddie
Where: Crime Alley
When: Recently
What: bro stuff
Warnings: sads, probably.
[Crime Alley wasn't how Bruce remembered. No damp, dark street that smelt like garbage. That was a thing of the past. The chalk mark that had been there decades before was long gone and from the look of the street now, it wouldn't make sense that anyone had been murdered there. No, instead of Gotham gloom, this street, this place where pearls fell and hope died, was now a sanctuary for people who had lost and wanted to remember. The little alley glowed. Candles were lit next to framed pictures of lost loved ones. Chalk and paint murals sprawled in technicolor across the bricks. Christmas lights strung above. The smell of flowers mixed with the burning candles and this tiny street that was once a place to crawl to hell was now a strong flicker of hope that everyone thought they lost.
Eddie wasn't responsible for all of it. He visited this place while trying to fix up the neighborhood and noticed lit candles and flowers left where the Waynes were shot. Soon there were pictures of those lost in the plague, the Bane takeover, the Ra's take over, the Crane toxin, everything and he knew that Gotham needed a place to remember. To look forward. After a few months, the Alley became the safest place in Gotham. People from all walks of life came to honor those who lost. Mobsters, thieves, killers, thugs, grandmothers, sons. Everyone. Now, it wasn't just a place where the Waynes were lost. It was a place where the city tried to remember a time they believed they could be better.
With the other Batman gone, the city wandered back to this place. Eddie checked on it every so often to replace flowers with fresh ones, change out candles and speak to people who needed to talk. Some cried, some begged him for help. He joked with Muerte about becoming a priest, but these days? Eddie Nigma wasn't so far off from the mark.
He stood at the edge of the glowing street with a wrapped frame under his arm and a white, simple votive candle in the other hand. He was dressed in a black suit, a dark black wool coat, a green tie and a fuzzy, bright purple scarf that made him look harmless.]
