This is more of a [...] heads up than anything else. Steve Rogers from Marvel has informed me that Rebecca Lyons, the girl who assisted Crane in the spread of his virus, has disappeared from custody. It seems to be the work of the hotel. She might return, but she might not. [Blink.] That's all.

[locked to dick g.]

Do you have a minute?

[locked to iris m.]

[Blink. Blink.] How are you?

It negatively affects you.

[Blink. Blink.] You're not taking advantage of me. You haven't. I checked in because I wanted to know how you were, not because I felt obligated to do so. The [...] problems I had before were entirely different.

[No hesitation.] Better me than anyone else

[A very long pause.] it feels like it. It always feels like it now. no matter where i am, who i'm with. [...] i don't want to be the cause of more

[..,] You have to take care of yourself too, Iris.

I grew up around people who were only interested in my money. I know what it looks like when someone is trying to take advantage of me. [Blink.] You're my friend. I like talking to you, and I don't particularly like talking to very many people.

[...] that just doesn't seem as important as other people.

[A longer pause.] I like talking to you too. I don't talk a lot, but it's nice when you listen. [...thinking of Harley.] that doesn't mean I want to sleep with you. [Awkward. After a second she starts crossing out everything she's written, a small word in between scribbles.] sorry

Caring about other people isn't a bad thing. There's a lack of it in the world. But you don't have to neglect yourself in the process.

I feel the same. [Blink. Blink. He watches as the words are deleted.] Don't be. I didn't think that was what it meant.

i don't do very well at the caring either. i try and then it all ends up wrong with hurt people I just need to figure out a way to stay away as much as I can but i don't know how yet. I was supposed to be figuring it out but then Ra's came and I was scared and i made someone else take care of me again and I just cant figure it out. [It all comes in a rush, as quickly as she can write.]

[A longer pause. then, though part of her wants to ignore she wrote any of it. Small:] good.

How do you think they end up hurt? I highly doubt that it's intentional. [...] You say you make people take care of you, but what if they want to?

Every way. Physically, emotionally, sexually, mentally. i say things, do things, introduce them to people, don't stop stuff from happening. even if i don't mean for things to happen, they still do. [Her pen stops and rests as she tries to think about the question. Finally, slowly:] i [...] don't think they do. Not really. especially not after things start to happen.

[Cursor blink.] I can't say I know exactly how that feels, but I do know what it's like when things happen even though you don't intend for them to. [...] Intentions do matter.

Some people do want to help, Iris.

[...] Not when people still always end up hurt. The outcome is still something bad. That's what matters.

[A longer pause.] There are those that deserve help. Much more. Help is perfect if it's aimed in the right direction.

Someone who causes pain unintentionally isn't the same as someone who does it on purpose. There is a difference.

You think that. Not everyone does.

[...] if someone breaks your arm, it doesn't change anything about it being broken if they meant to do it or not. It's still going to be broken, and still going to take weeks to heal.

It's different. you want to help everyone, even when you probably shouldn't.

But how you feel toward that person, whether or not they should face punishment, that changes.

There are people like that out there. It doesn't always seem that way, but it's true.

[...] Not always.

It doesn't mean that everyone should get help. Or that there aren't people that deserve it more. Can you really say that the innocent don't deserve help more than the guilty?

It changes the fact that you didn't make a conscious choice to cause harm.
