SECRET relationship meme

The fact that you're in a relationship with this person isn't public knowledge. Actually, no one knows about it except for the people involved. Maybe you guys are just private like that; on the other hand, it may be a necessity to keep things a secret from others. Maybe you're both team mates, and others on the team would give you grief, or you're not suppose to be dating, or you're not the type to usually date and you're only testing the waters. Perhaps it's the combination of you two, possibly an odd couple, that would bring some controversy or some teasing. Or, you know, you could not want to deal with friends and relatives being busybodies. Your reasons are your own.

Are you content with stealing moments to be together as a couple? Do you want to make your relationship known and the fact that you can't drives you batty? Remember, there are lots of benefits to dating in secret. You can be yourselves completely, away from prying eyes, and get to know each other better as potential longterm romantic partners. In a way, it's ideal.

...still, do you ever wish you could scream from the rooftops how much you care for your significant other?

Borrowed from bakerstreet.

How to Play:

Kate's family hadn't been thrilled when she decided to go to college all the way across the country in California. Her mother was concerned that having her so far away from the protection of the Pack would make her a target for any Mutts who wanted to make a name for themselves. Kate insisted that she was more than capable of taking care of herself and her father backed her up, reminding Elena that he had been the one to teach her how to fight.

There was something liberating about starting a new life in a new place where no one knew her or her family. In Bear Valley, the Danvers' had a reputation for being reclusive and odd. In California, no one had any preconceived notions about Kate Danvers and who she was.

It was a surprise when she found that there were other werewolves in the world, ones that were completely different from her and her family. She knew that she should have immediately shared this newfound knowledge with her mother, but she didn't. Mostly because one of her classmates was a really cute female werewolf that she wanted to get to know better.

Of course, now she was in a relationship with said cute female werewolf and her family was coming to visit and she had no idea how she was going to get through any of it. She didn't want Cora to realize how worried she was though, so she managed a smile when she met her girlfriend and greeted her with a kiss. "Hey, you."

Cora still hated Beacon Hills, California, and maybe even the US, to a degree, anyway. There had been a degree of healing toward that hatred of the home that she had once loved as a child. Her brother was here, her life even, was tethered here. She could only run away for so long.

She could only avoid her problems for so long.

Coming back, staying there, had forced her to face them. It had also forced her to stop being the lone wolf that she had very much regressed into. And with this forced forward momentum in not protecting herself from everything, from family, from friends, and everything in-between....well Cora had found more than just friends, she'd found a relationship, a girlfriend.

Cora was private, almost to a fault. So, she didn't talk about said relationship, to anybody. A somewhat rare smile pulled at Cora's face as Kate greeted her with a kiss, returning the affection. "Hey." Cora looked over at Kate, the smile not even managing to disappear just yet. Though, her eyebrow did quirk a bit. "Miss me that much?"

"Something like that," Kate said, reaching for Cora's hand. "Mostly I'm trying not to freak out about my family visiting."

She was pretty sure that they would like Cora, but she was positive they would not appreciate that she kept the existence of an entire species of werewolves from them, not to mention the crazy supernatural issues that happened in Beacon Hills. It was really the kind of thing that the Interracial Council should have been aware of, but Kate was afraid that Pack Law would somehow interfere.

Of course, she hadn't met her girlfriend's family yet either. They were both private people and the whole relationship thing was new, so they were trying to figure it out together.

"I'd try to help, but you know me." Cora stated, pretty plainly, though, to lessen the sting of how callous it might sound...she squeezed Kate's hand. "Being reassuring isn't my strong suit."

And it definitely wasn't. Much as Cora understood how important family, and pack, were...it didn't mean that she had much advice or encouragement for her girlfriend about the current issue at hand. She didn't know what would make it better. Derek was important to her, and she knew that his word would have weight, whether she wanted it to or not. So, she knew what Kate was facing, at least in a small way.

Most of her knew that Derek probably wouldn't care, and yet still...nothing had been said. "I'm sure it'll be....not terrible." Cora finished lamely, then gave a small smile.

Kate laughed at Cora's attempt at a pep talk. It was kind of amazing that they managed to have anything resembling a functional relationship given how lousy they both were with actually acknowledging or discussing their feelings. Somehow, though, they made it work and she really didn't want her family to interfere with that.

It wasn't like she hadn't known she would have to face this eventually, but she wasn't quite prepared for it now. At least Uncle Nick, Reese, and Noah weren't coming along. Her parents, her twin, Jeremy, and Jaime were going to be overwhelming enough. Though she was counting on Jaime to at least provide some levity and balance to the situation.

"I guess it could be worse," she said. "I mean, what you've told me about your brother? He sounds an awful lot like my dad. It would be awful if they visited at the same time."

Then: Chicago had been bad enough for the world of the weird. After getting busted down to sergeant her Lt. decided the CPD didn't need Murph...even though she'd been the best fiction writer on the force and made the strange things that happened look good on forms. An opening on the Sheriff's department in some place called Beacon Hills got passed through the police grapevine. Her transfer was the fasted ever processed.

Imagine her surprise to learn that Chicago wasn't the only location to play home to inexplicable events that made paperwork a nightmare. Murphy quickly earned the respect of Sheriff Stilinski by making him look good in print. After a while, and a few beers one night, Murph filled her new boss in on what she'd seen and experienced in Chicago. She quietly became an invaluable resource in the department, and she became more familiar with the goings on in Beacon Hills.

Inevitably, that put her in the path of the Hales. Peter was a pain in the ass, but she had experience dealing with his type too. Derek was something of an enigma. He'd been a suspect in the fire that destroyed the Hale family home, and caused the death of more than a few family members. Details and evidence were sketchy. Derek was released, but the department kept an eye on him. Hale detail fell to Murph more often than not...which had led to yet another unexpected development...

Now: It was late. Murphy's shift would be over in twenty minutes. She had plans to inhale a good meal and what passed for a steak sandwich in this town, binge watch a few episodes of Gossip Girl (shut up, don't judge her), on Netflix then go to bed.

She was sitting in the squad car, parked in a blind lane off the main road outside of town proper, finishing up her paperwork for the shift when a familiar truck went by. Baby blue eyes looked at the clock on the radio. Fifteen minutes. Close enough, she thought. She started the car with her lips pulled to the side then hit the roller lights after pulling out to go after the truck.

After the truck pulled over Murph put her car in park then got out to approach the driver's side. Her flashlight was aimed at the side view mirror to keep her identify hidden. Not that she wouldn't be identified as soon as the driver rolled the window down and got a nose full of her scent. Said window was tapped on by her flashlight which was then shined into Derek's face. "License and registration." She was glad he couldn't see the smirk on her face.

Derek was always careful to follow the rules of the road when he drove. The fact that he occasionally carted around bodies and out of control werewolves meant he liked to fly under the radar of the Sheriff's department as much as possible, even though Stilinski knew the truth and would help cover things up as much as he could. There were always douchebags like McCall's father wanting to come in and swing their dicks around about the number of 'unsolved' cases in Beacon Hills.

When he realized who pulled him over, he couldn't help but chuckle. Apparently it was going to be one of those kind of nights. Meeting Karrin had been unexpected, but in the best possible way. After his failed relationships with Kate and Jennifer, he hadn't been looking for anything more than a little fun, but she somehow managed to worm her way into his heart.

They were keeping quiet about their relationship for the time being. The last thing Derek wanted was a bunch of teenagers or Stilinski sticking their nose into his private business. Plus the secrecy made it hotter.

He rolled down the window and flashed a charming grin. "Officer, what did I do wrong?" he asked.

Murph wasn't concerned about her boss giving her a hard time about Derek. Stilinski would probably give her a lecture about duty and personal life being separate but she knew how to maintain that line. There was no point borrowing trouble, however, so she figured what the Sheriff didn't know wouldn't hurt him.

Of course Derek hauled out that grin at her. It was a nice grin. Lit up his eyes. And he used it to its full potency on her every chance he got. Bastard. It never failed to get her pulse going.

"Turn your engine off and get out of the car," she replied, attempting to keep her official voice going. "Slowly. And keep your hands where I can see them."

One of Derek's favorite things about Karrin was when she pretended to be all official. Apparently he had a thing for women in authority that he never realized before meeting her. He slowly got out of the car, holding his hands up, smirk still firmly in place.

"Officer, I thought you liked when I put my hands places you couldn't see them," he remarked, his tone lazy.

She had to lower the flashlight to keep up the ruse which meant Derek would see the twitch of her lips and the shine in her eyes that meant she was trying her best not to laugh.

"I will advise that you maintain a certain amount of respect for my authority, Mr. Hale, for the next ten minutes," she said as she pulled the cuffs from her belt then reached out to grab one of his wrists. "What are you doing out at this time of night?"
