Hello Repose. For those I haven't met yet, hello, my name is Tobias. Nice to meet you all. I figured it was a good time for an introduction, seeing as I've been here six months already. Initially I was under the assumption that I would be here for an insignificant amount of time for work, but that seemed to be incorrect. I have a knack for finding old things that have value beyond sentimentality, so if you like thrift shops or antique shops, you'll probably find me in those places at any given time. I'm essentially an antiques appraiser.
My original profession, though, was as an Associate Professor of Philosophy at a university back on the East Coast, untenured naturally because I wasn't doing it for very long and I had transferred from one school to another. So if you'll humor a middle-aged man, I'd like to post occasional philosophical questions every once in a while to get some conversation going. I would prefer that to have serious answers given, but I was a college professor, so I won't clutch my pearls if I get a silly or inappropriate answer, but I will ask for an explanation, which you admittedly don't have to give as we're not in my classroom and this isn't for a grade. So, without further ado, let's get that question out there. There will be extra information connected to the question that you can read or ignore. The question itself will be in bold letters like so.
