Yeah, Michael really doesn't cover himself in glory in this episode, does he? It still takes my breath away that he invoked the freaking bashing and almost told Brian he should have left Justin to die. Just... guhg... I have no words for the ugliness of that.

Don't start me ...

This is not much worse than what he said to Deb when she started seeing Carl, or the way he treated Justin from the get-go, not to mention his awful "you always danced with Justin" line in S2 when Justin was still in the damned hospital.

In fact, I've never forgiven him for lying to Emmett in 101 when he says that Brian begged him to come to the hospital when in fact Brian had told him to stay and get laid.

It's no wonder that at that stage Emmett and Ted had such a low opinion of Brian if that was typical of the spin that dear little Mikey put on things.

IMO he is pretty consistently a nasty spiteful little toad who is far more self-involved than ever Brian showed himself to be. With Mikey, it's just about always about what Mikey wants and how Mikey sees things.

He sticks his foot in his mouth more than once and says some hurtful things, for sure. But I don't think he's awful all of the time. He's also sweet and brave, a good friend, and a good partner. He sticks by Ben no matter what. He runs off with Hunter to save him from his mother. He turns up and tells Brian off when he throws Justin out during the cancer arc. He gives Justin a place to stay when he breaks up with Brian in season five.

As many people have put it before, I don't particularly like Mikey, but I love Michael. Mikey is known for being immature, but Michael is loving, and brave, and good.

Sorry, we're just going to have to agree to disagree here.

To me, Mikey - or even Michael - only does what it suits Michael to do.

He rarely if ever sacrifices anything he wants or how he feels for anyone else.

I mean, his idea of running off with Hunter - instead of heading straight for a lawyer to see what could be done legally - was to run straight to Brian going 'look at me, see what I've done, only now what? fix it'

And he doesn't just run off at the mouth occasionally, he lashes out with the most damaging comments he can come up with every single time he doesn't get his own way.

And also every single time he actually gets the chance to feel superior for once to his friends. And not just Brian.

Think of how he behaved over David's party and the things he said.

Think of the things he said about Brian's lifestyle in S5 - which also applied to Ted and Emmett, and even Vic, but he never seemed to think of that.

Or the things he said when Ben first wanted to help Hunter.

Think about how he hurt Deb over Carl, and also over his comments about not wanting JR to be brought up by a single Mom.

And he never really expresses any remorse, and he never gets called on it.

Truly, for me, he's ... he really is almost always destructive. Because whenever push comes to shove, Michael chooses the path that suits his own desires. He would be completely incapable of the unselfishness that fuels Brian's 'I hope you get what you want' line.

I've known people like Michael, and I honestly believe that, consciously or not, they're what M Scott Peck calls "People of the Lie". Or in other words - they have aligned themselves with evil.

That's honestly what I see in Michael.
